Artistry of the concert accordion in contemporary chamber music. A performer’s journey through shaping artistic identity
No full textIn my doctoral research, I examined the role of the accordion in contemporary chamber music performance practices through a process of observation, exploration, examination, and reflection as an accordionist.
The project comprised four concerts and an artistic doctoral thesis, which delved into the artistic possibilities of the concert accordion in contemporary chamber music repertoire and the accordionist’s artistic identity formation. It also provided a personal perspective on the evolving identity of concert accordion players and their potential needs within the field, proposing steps for their continued growth and development in the future.

Trendianalyysi maaseudun kehittämisen tukena
No full textTrendianalyysi lukuisissa muodoissaan on empiirinen menetelmä, jonka avulla tunnistetaan ja arvioidaan useimmiten megatrendejä, trendejä ja/tai heikkoja signaaleja. Keskeistä trendianalyysissä on tunnistaa trendityyppien erilaisuus, niiden elinkaarivaihe (jokainen trendi päättyy joskus) sekä alueellinen kohtaanto. Tämän tutkimuksen empiirinen aineisto kerättiin RURALIZATION-hankkeessa vuonna 2020. Trendihavaintoja tehtiin yhteensä 1 560 kappaletta useista erilaisista lähteistä yli 40 tutkijan voimin havaintoharhan pienentämiseksi, ja niitä arvioitiin systemaattisesti yhteisen kriteeristön avulla. Vallitsevat megatrendit ja trendit näyttäisivät jarruttavan maaseudun myönteistä kehitystä, kun taas heikot signaalit näyttäytyvät maaseudun suurimpina mahdollisuuksina. Maaseutuvaikutuksiltaan merkittävimpiä trendejä voisi kuvata sanoilla uudistuminen, merkityksellisyys ja kestävyys. Maaseudun tulevaisuustyössä olisi perusteltua panostaa omaehtoiseen toimintaan ja luopua yleisimmin tarjottujen megatrendilistojen yksinomaisesta käytöstä, koska maaseudun myönteinen tulevaisuus ei synny nykyisten megatrendien kannattelemana
Kylämaisemat ja maisemansuojelun sommittuma
No full textMaisemansuojelu kytkee materiaalisen maiseman, paikalliset yhteisöt, viranomaiset, kolmannen sektorin ja poliittiset toimijat toisiinsa. Luotaan artikkelissani suojelun monimittakaavaisia keskusteluasetelmia, joiden summana kylämaisemat arvottuvat ja maisemiin kohdistuvat käytännöt muotoutuvat. Aineistoani ovat valtakunnallisesti arvokkaiden maisema-alueiden päivitysinventoinnista vuosina 2016 ja 2020 annetut lausunnot ja kannanotot. Hahmottelen niihin tukeutuen suomalaisen maisemahallinnon sommittumarakennetta. Samalla pohdin, miten hallintosommittuman sisäiset ja ulkoiset suhteet muodostuvat, ja millaisia toimijuuksia ja sisältöjä nämä suhteet tuottavat. Artikkelini osoittaa, etteivät kylämaisemat, niiden arvot ja maisemien kautta rakentuvat identiteetit ole pysyviä, vaan ne määrittyvät jatkuvasti uudelleen osana muuttuvan yhteiskunnan sosiomateriaalisia todellisuuksia
A dual simple proof of the classical Bernstein and Calabi–Bernstein theorems
No full textIn this note, we present a short and simple proof of both the Bernstein theorem and the Calabi–Bernstein theorem, which allows us to visualize both the common features and the remarkable differences between the two results. The proofs are based on the construction of conformal metrics that ensure the parabolicity of the surfaces. Consequently, they do not rely on complex analysis
Arctic research infrastructures between normative ideals and geopolitical objectives
No full textThis discussion article explores how both scientific and security considerations are embedded in Arctic research infrastructures. It suggests that both normative ideals and geopolitical objectives can be identified in the discourses and practices surrounding the physical constructions, objects and technologies used for environmental or climate related knowledge-building in the Arctic. This has implications for developing appropriate policies that comprehensively acknowledge the science-security nexus without undue securitisation or bias. In drawing attention to the interface between Arctic science and security, and how such concerns are materially embedded, this discussion article argues that new assemblamatic approaches could allow for more relevant Arctic scientific and security related policymaking. New perspectives are needed to move beyond binary dichotomies that view Arctic politics through either normative or geopolitical frameworks. The article calls experts and academics to further address questions on the configuration of the Arctic science-security nexus, as well as on the extent to which Arctic science and security policies are mutually entangled rather than mutually exclusive
