    No full text
One of the main health problems facing the country is iron deficiency anemia. This condition reduces the level of hemoglobin present in the blood, which produces symptoms that affect the sufferer's daily activities. According to the INEI (National Institute of Statistics and Informatics), the urban area has 36.7% of anemia, and Comas is the second district of the capital (Lima) with the second highest rate of anemia with 43.4%. This article proposes a technological solution that allows the control and prevention of iron deficiency anemia in children from 6 to 23 months old in Comas through the follow-up of the screenings performed and by improving eating habits. The result obtained was an Android-based mobile application with three navigation options. The Children option allows the registration of each screening performed and notifies the level of anemia present in the child, the Home option displays information about this condition, and the Kitchen Recipes option is responsible for enriching the child's diet by presenting a highly nutritious recipe book, categorized according to age range. It also obtained a 90% positive acceptance rate from the sample population identified as users and patients, and a daily screening was recorded. This result can be applied to any coastal area of the country and, therefore, contributes to improving the quality of life of children by reducing anemia rates

Objective: To determine the factors associated with knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAPs) about tuberculosis (TB) in the Peruvian population. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, analytical study was carried out by conducting a virtual survey. The instrument that was used consisted of 4 sections: sociodemographic variables (9 questions), knowledge (23 questions), attitudes (9 questions), and practices (8 questions) about tuberculosis. Univariate and bivariate analyses and the Poisson regression model with robust variance were used to obtain crude and adjusted prevalence ratios (PRa). Results: The sample consisted of 1284 participants. Regarding knowledge, attitudes, and practices about TB, an insufficient level was found in 47.97%, 50.3%, and 54.36% of the cases, respectively. The variables that increased the probability of having sufficient knowledge were sex, grade, area, family history, and history of having TB. While only the area and both antecedents were for attitudes. Finally, the age, degree, and history of TB were for the practices. Conclusion: There are insufficient KAPs in around half of the population studied. In addition, there are differences according to the epidemiological characteristics, such as sex, age, academic degree, area, and family history of TB and having had this disease. Therefore, the importance of research in this field should be emphasized in the face of a disease that is related to the differences in the levels of these variables between different strata of the general population

    Get PDF
The link between Cultural Heritage (CH), media, and film tourism has gained increasing attention in the literature over the last two decades. The 21st-century film tourism industry edutainment must reflect the experiences of 21st-century digital/virtual requirements. Film tourism is often considered a potential marketing channel for World Heritage Sites (WHS) and CH tourism. Limited research addresses how heritage film tourism providers employ and deal with the film industry and Archéocinema media for marketing communication. This paper attempts to discuss the relationship between the capability of heritage film tourism as a promotional tool combined with Archéocinema in constructing the optimistic destination image of heritage tourism and experience as it flows in both physical places and virtual environments. It argues that both environments, as dynamic and generate meanings, merge, and embody subjectivity and objectivity now in one process. This process suggests building a critical, informative, and promotional purpose by engaging in storyline and storytelling, learning about what and how film tourism and Archéocinema can offer and representing it in a modern key within and beyond the physical dimensions of place in an ethical and transparent approach according to the London Charter and the Seville Principles

Introduction: Severe malnutrition poses a significant risk to the thyroid gland's function and hormonal balance, which can lead to numerous physiological and developmental complications. Understanding the relationship between severe malnutrition and thyroid hormone status is crucial for the effective management of these children. Aim and Objective: To investigate the prevalence and patterns of thyroid hormone abnormalities in severely malnourished patients with subgroup analysis in Marasmus, Kwashiorkor, and edematous malnourished patients. Methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 116 children diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). The study protocol was approved by the Institution Ethics Committee. Well-informed written consent in the local language was taken from parents. SAM was diagnosed and managed according to WHO criteria (1). Comprehensive laboratory investigations were conducted to assess serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (T4), and triiodothyronine (T3). Statistical analysis was performed to examine the associations between these variables and SAM. Results: Most of the 116 subjects included in the study were male (53.4%) and had a lower socioeconomic status (43.9%). The age distribution of the children aged below 5 years revealed that 46.5% were between 12 and 36 months old. In the present study, Marasmus was 55.2%, Kwashiorkor was 12.1%, and edematous malnutrition was 32.7%. Among 116 participants, 94.8% were discharged, while 5.2% were expired during treatment. The mean levels of fT3, fT4, and TSH were 1.88±1.06 pg/ml, 0.99±0.84 ng/dl, and 3.22±0.87 µIU/ml, respectively. Most SAM patients had low fT3, fT4, and TSH levels relative to the normal range. Conclusion: Monitoring of thyroid hormone status in SAM patients is mandatory for this vulnerable population

“Four of my Lecturers Including my HOD Took Sexual Interest in Me”: Factors Facilitating Sexual Harassment and Exploitation in Nigerian Higher Education Institutions

    Get PDF
For decades, Nigerian higher education institutions (HEIs) have featured as places where sex is used to determine who gets decent marks and who gets the opposite in what is popularly known as “sex-for-marks” in the country. It is common knowledge to Nigerians that many female students have been prevented from passing their coursework or completing their programmes of study for refusing to engage in sexual activities with their lecturers when demanded. Many male lecturers, including professors, have been dismissed, suspended, put on probation, or prosecuted for sexually harassing or exploiting female students. Available evidence suggests that this phenomenon cuts across both public and private institutions across the country although it is more common in public institutions. This current study explored this phenomenon. The qualitative approach was adopted. Both primary and secondary data were utilised. Primary data were gathered through semi-structured interviews of 22 female graduates and undergraduates of 11 HEIs. Secondary data came from 8 media outlets. The data were thematically analysed. Nine themes were developed from the data, which denoted the primary factors contributing to this menace, and these are (i) project supervision, (ii) being unique, (iii) being a fresher, (iv) tuition fee debt, (v) failed assessment, (vi) exam malpractice, (vii) missed submission deadline, (viii) failing to purchase handout, and (ix) sexual obsession. These themes were analysed in depth and supported with excerpts containing the original words of the victims while pseudonyms or fictitious names were used to replace the real names of the participants. Recommendations were made on how the authorities of HEIs can effectively address this social problem

    Get PDF
Regarding its evolutionary scale, mankind has made important achievements in a short period of time. The last 50 years have been fundamental for the development of technologies that currently allow human beings to make safe journeys in the orbit of the planet, study and accurately analyze the universe, build smart cities, propose more sustainable production processes, etc. The technological leap of the last decades has influenced practically all sectors, from engineering to medicine. There are many factors that allowed for technological evolution, and one of them refers to the development of new materials. Herein, polymers stand out. The versatility of these materials reinforced their relevance during the SARS-CoV-2 period. In the period when many medical and hospital supplies were exhausted, polymers were useful for manufacturing items such as face shields, general purpose masks, and swabs, helping to counter the spread of the virus. Two years after the pandemic peak, the challenge is to fight the viral variants and make the methods of diagnosis and treatment more effective. In this regard, nanotechnology and nanoscience seem to be promising for this purpose. Through a review study, the present work aims to identify technologies already available or under development that allow for the use of polymeric nanomaterials against the spread of the new coronavirus and its variants

    Get PDF
The tire bead, as the most important load-bearing component at the bead area, is closely related to the durability of the tire, but its structure is developing slowly. For this reason, the topological whole bead design was proposed, although it performs well, many defects existed due to the design based on traditional experience. Therefore, this paper studies the topology shape optimization algorithm, delves into the main criterion based on von Mises and the interlaminar shear stress, and provides guidance for the structurally optimal design of the 265/35R18 radial tire whole bead. The finite element simulation results show that the von Mises of the inner end of the chafer and the end of the carcass cord are reduced by 14.48% and 24.12%, respectively. The interlaminar shear stress decreased by 28.96% and 49.51%, respectively. The von Mises of chafer and carcass cord decreased by 13.17% to 40.36% and 7.71% to 20.51%, respectively. The optimization design is of great significance to further improve the safety performance of tires

BFO Theory with Variable Profit in Case of Advance Payments of Tax on Profit

    Get PDF
The Brusov–Filatova–Orekhova (BFO) theory is generalized for the simultaneous account of variable company profit and advance tax on income payments. The generalized BFO formula for the WACC, has been derived. The dependence of WACC, discount rate, WACC–g (here g is growth rate), company capitalization, V, the equity cost, ke, on leverage L at various values of g, on debt cost, kd, and on age of the company, n, is studied. It is shown, that WACC, is no longer a discount rate. This role passes to WACC–g, which decreases with g, while the company's value increases with g. The tilt of curve k(L) growths with g. It is found that at the growth rate g < g* the tilt of the curve ke(L) is negative. This changes significantly the company's dividend policy principles. WACC(L) as well as the discount rate, WACC–g, decrease with the increase of debt cost kd. V (L) at all values of kd increases with leverage L, as well V(L) increases with kd. This means that tax shield advantages the decrease of the cost of raising capital. Examining the main financial parameters of the company at the positive (g=0.2) and negative (g=–0.2) growth rates, we found a huge difference in their behavior. This allows you to explore companies with growing profits and companies with decreasing profits, as well investigate the financial state of the companies whose profits rise and fall in different periods
