The Effectiveness of Wordwall in Improving Pronunciation, Stress Placement, and Intonation for B2-Level English Psychology Students: An Experimental Case Study at a Georgian University
This paper focuses on examining the effectiveness of the Wordwall online game application in improving pronunciation, stress placement, and intonation for B2-level English for Psychology students. An experimental approach using quantitative methods was employed to gather statistically reliable data. Sixty Georgian university students participated, with 30 in the experimental group (using Wordwall) and 30 in the control group (using traditional methods). Students recorded 10 challenging words using smartphones and computers and submitted them to the researcher before and after a semester of learning. The recordings were evaluated using a rubric, and data were analyzed with SPSS 24.00. Statistical analysis, using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank and Mann-Whitney U Test, showed significant improvements in pronunciation and intonation in the experimental group (p-value < 0.05). Positive feedback from students highlighted Wordwall’s effectiveness. The findings suggest that game-based learning is a valuable tool for improving language skills
Effect of local substrates on the development of microtubers of yam (Dioscorea rotundata L.) varieties using the SAH technique
The inadequacy of the quantity and quality of production equipment is a major concern for yam production in Benin. Likewise, the new technique of mass production of microtubers is limited by problems related to the supply of the modern substrate. The objective of this study is to identify a local substrate based on plant residues with the potential of those imported (modern substrates) to limit their use in SAH. A control consisting of modern substrate TS3 (SM) and two substrates containing different local residues (100% carbonized peanut shell and 100% carbonized sawdust) were tested on varieties Kouna, Bobo, TDr 9519177, and TDr 8902665. A completely random two-factor bulk experimental design repeated three times was used. The plants were followed through the collection of growth data such as the plants' number, plant height, the number of branches, and the length and width, and then at the harvest, data including the number of microtubers, microtubers diameter, and weight were collected. The results obtained show that the mean of all the parameters considered for the growth and the post-harvest phase are higher with the SM substrate than those of the CA and SB substrates. In addition, discriminating parameters such as the number of microtubers, diameter of microtubers, and weight of microtubers had higher mean values (3.5; 5.37 mm; 037 g) in SB than in CA (2.08; 3.07 mm; 0.19 g), respectively. Plants seeded in the SB substrate showed significant growth gains ranging from 45 to 99% in height and from 35 to 97% in leaf width. Substrate SB, therefore, represents a good medium for the growth and production of microtubers that can replace modern substrate TS3 (SM). Nevertheless, physicochemical characterization and enrichment of the sawdust substrate should be considered to optimize the yield of yam microtubers
This study analyzes the perverse effects of forest management dynamics on the endogenous mechanisms of preservation and sustainability of medicinal resources. Based on qualitative data collection and analysis using Balandier's theory of dynamical analysis, two main results emerge: first, sustainable management of therapeutic resources is achieved through environmental education and the sacralization of therapeutic resources. Secondly, because of its deterministic nature, the dynamics of forest management in the Deng Deng Massif contributes to the obsolescence of forest preservation strategies and its therapeutic resources. All this contributes to the progressive degradation of the forests while compromising the well-being and health of the populations
This study aims to monitor the evolution of the hydrogeochemical parameters of groundwater in the sub-prefectures of Oyo, Tchikapika and Boundji, in the Alima watershed, in order to determine their quality for consumption and irrigation during the dry seasons of 2021 and 2022. Sampling included 26 structures in 2021 and 34 in 2022, divided between developed sources, catchment wells and boreholes. The samples were collected, stored and analyzed at the laboratory of La Congolaise des Eaux (LCDE). The physical (pH, temperature, conductivity, TDS) and chemical (cations and anions) parameters were measured in situ and in the laboratory. The results show that the waters meet WHO standards, with a predominance of Ca²⁺, Na⁺, HCO₃⁻ and Cl⁻, and two dominant facies, calcium bicarbonate and magnesium in 2021, and chloride, calcium sulfate and magnesium in 2022. The groundwaters of Oyo, Tchikapika and Boundji meet WHO standards, but have chemical specificities that require continuous monitoring. Persistent acidity, low mineralization, and corrosion of infrastructure are indicators of potential health risks, although the overall chemical quality is satisfactory. Elements such as Ca²⁺, Na⁺, and HCO₃⁻ dominate the chemical composition of the waters, with a notable influence of precipitation and silicate weathering. According to the Wilcox criteria, the waters are excellent to good for irrigation. However, concerns about the acidity of these waters and the microbiological risks to which they are exposed, hence the need for microbiological monitoring. The results can guide water management policies, particularly for regions where acidity and corrosion can affect public health and infrastructure. Regular monitoring and targeted interventions are necessary to ensure the potability of water and the health of residents
Japanese Short Poem Senryū’s: A Perspective from the “Superiority Theory of Humor”
Senryū is a Japanese short poem written in 5-7-5 syllables and reflects the various aspects of human life in a humorous or satirical way. Every year, numerous senryū competitions covering various topics are held in Japan. Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company’s senryū competition Watashi no Senryū Konkūru) (old name: サラリーマン川柳(Sararīman Senryū/Salaryman Senryū)) is the most popular and longest-running competition in Japan. In this competition, people express what they experience daily and the difficulties they encounter in business, etc. So, in the present study, the poems compiled from Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company’s Senryū Competition in the years 1990-2020 related to family relations will be analyzed from the perspective of the Superiority Theory of Humor. This theory can be identified as a feeling oneself superior to others' mistakes and misfortunes.
In conclusion, the Superiority Theory of Humor is seen in most of the senryū poems. The topics are behind the technology and trends, which are below the beauty standards of society, such as being ugly and fat. The reader feels superior by experiencing a sudden victory that he/she has not experienced the above-mentioned bad situations himself/herself
Mehmet Rauf's Novel September: One of the first psychological novels written under the influence of Western literature and its critical analysis
The scientific article aims to analyze the factors provoking betrayal and the origin of remorse and to present psychological portraits of the characters in Mehmed Rauf's acclaimed novel September. As some literary critics suggest, it is considered to be the first psychological novel in Turkish literature of the Servet-i-Funun period. The novel is written under the influence of literary tendencies dominant in that period. Therefore, the theoretical framework chosen for the analysis of the novel is Naturalism and Experimental Realism, which addresses different aspects of human lives, such as history, culture and social class. The novel bears clear features of Naturalism, such as objectivism, and a discrete description of characters and societies. The article applies the method of content analysis and critical study of the scientific literature related to the novel itself and the analysis of new tendencies in Turkish literature. Based directly on the novel's text, the article studies the reasons and the source of elusive marital infidelity, its impact on the characters, and the tormenting feelings caused by remorse. New psychological motives that appear in the novel September could be considered as an original phenomenon in Turkish literature in the period around 1900; Though the end of the novel is tragic, the characters of September are forgiven for their “misdeeds” as the death of the main hero purifies their sins

This article analyzes, through a legal approach, the relevance of ratification of the Convention on the Integrated Management of Water Resources of the Lake Kivu and Ruzizi River Basin by Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the absence of any common international legal framework for environmental protection of this transboundary basin, the so-called ABAKIR Convention represents a strategic opportunity for environmental governance adapted to the regional context. By comparing it with the Convention on the Sustainable Management of Lake Tanganyika – already ratified and operational – this study highlights the need for structured, institutionalized forms of transboundary governance with effective monitoring mechanisms. The article concludes that ratifying the ABAKIR Convention would strengthen regional cooperation, enhance the protection of shared natural resources, and facilitate access to international funding
