    Get PDF
This study examines the factors that influence student motivation in learning, specifically studying the role of feedback and teaching methods. Using regression analysis, we identified two main factors that significantly increase student motivation: constructive feedback and teaching methods that facilitate understanding of study materials. Moreover, relevant literature and contemporary teaching methods were discussed. Results show that students are more motivated when they receive improvement-promoting feedback because it supports their academic growth and engagement. In addition, teaching methods that promote understanding and create an enjoyable learning environment go a long way in promoting sustained motivation. These results highlight the importance of developmental feedback and effective teaching methods in creating a positive and motivating educational experience

Sorghum is an essential crop in Africa, providing a staple food for thousands of people. However, soil degradation due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers, among other factors, is making it less productive. The overall aim of this study is to contribute to improving soil fertility through sustainable, environmentally-friendly farming practices. A system of concentric rings placed around the tree and a completely randomized system, both comprising four treatments and three replications, were used. These were the control (T0), the conventional practice (T1), the farmers' practice (T2), and the organo-mineral association (T3). The results obtained in this experiment indicate that the “organo-mineral” and “conventional practice” treatments promote, on average, growth in height (208.41±11.64; 194.66±26.32), number of leaves (13.50±3.6; 13.91±4.18), collar diameter (2.15±0.26; 2.16±0.39) and total chlorophyll (2.00±1.00 mg/L and 1.41±0.31 mg/L) and carotenoid (0.35±0.18 mg/L and 0.30±0.05 mg/L) contents, with maximum performance observed under the canopy. The “farmers' practice” treatment and the “control” gave the least satisfactory results of the study. Sorghum plants located at R/2 of the crown gave the best yields compared with those located at the radius of the crown (1.862±0.21 T/ha vs. 0.917±0.18 T/ha respectively). In view of the results obtained, the organo-mineral combination is a sustainable solution to declining soil fertility and low productivity

The restaurant industry is without a doubt a significant activity for the development of the economy, which implies that its relationship with sustainability is an element that must be analyzed in order to develop strategies that would benefit the environment, the organization itself, and its consumers. In the particular case of Chilpancingo, studies regarding the relationship between sustainability and the restaurant industry have never been made, which makes it important to carry out the corresponding diagnosis in order to obtain pertinent information. This research aimed to recognize the practices regarding sustainability that restaurants in Chilpancingo carry out in three different categories: waste management, menus, and water and electrical power saving. The research used a quantitative approach with an exploratory focus; in order to obtain the data, a multiple-choice survey was designed and administered to restaurant owners and managers from different food-related businesses, such as regular restaurants, pozole restaurants, and seafood restaurants. This survey was administered digitally through tablets and laptops during previously scheduled appointments with the respondents.  The results demonstrated that there is no acquaintance with sustainability from the owners, businesspeople, or managers who took part in this research; despite the fact that they carry out activities related to sustainability, these practices are not based on organizational philosophies or corporate policies. The most relevant focus related to sustainability carried out by restaurateurs is in regards to energy consumption and the use and saving of water, while matters related to menus and sustainable food are visibly disregarded, as well as the disposal of wastes

A socio-demographic study of vegetable farms and their farming and fertilization practices was conducted in Franceville and Moanda. The aim was to update knowledge on vegetable farming and fertilizer management. The study consisted of the identification of all production sites and the administration of an individual survey. The total area is 84.1 ha or 0.491 ± 0.57 ha per market gardener. The survey identified 171 market gardeners, the majority of whom were foreigners (83%), male (88%), with no level of education (56%) and no training in good farming practices (78%). The age of the farmers ranges from 20 to 65 years. The workforce is mainly family labor (44%), and land acquisition is precarious, with 73% of producers being security guards. Ten botanical families of crops were identified, the most cultivated of Solanaceae and Malvaceae. Fertilizer management is influenced by the country of origin and the level of education. Synthetic fertilizers are used twice as much as organic fertilizers. Average doses vary from 800 to 1200 kg/ha respectively for urea (46% N) and NPK 15-15-15, or 107.08 ± 13.26 g/m2. The dose of fowl droppings, the most used organic fertilizer by 95% of producers, is 1580 ± 480 g/m2. Fertilizers are used subjectively, without respecting the prescribed recommended doses. This could have harmful consequences on the soil and the environment. Agro-ecological alternatives should be proposed to farmers as the use of compost and green fertilizers, for sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture

Meiji Restoration and Modernization: The Role of Intellectuals in The Context of Gramsci's Theory of Hegemony and Counter-Hegemony

    Get PDF
The Meiji Era (1868-1912) was a crucial period in Japan’s modernization, marked by profound social and political transformations under Western influence. Japanese intellectuals played a key role in reconciling traditional values with modern Western ideas. Inspired by Western science, technology, and administrative systems, the Meiji government sought to reshape Japan into a global power. Intellectuals explored concepts such as freedom, democracy, and individualism, integrating them into Japanese society while maintaining cultural identity.             This study examines the impact of Meiji intellectual movements on Japan’s modernization. The central questions include: How did Japanese intellectuals interpret Western thought? What proposals did they offer for modernization? How did their views on "civilization" and "enlightenment" influence state policies? What tensions arose between traditional values and Western modernization ideas? Addressing these questions, this study explores the intellectual foundation of Japan’s transformation into a modern nation-state. Additionally, using Gramsci’s hegemony theory and ideology analysis, it investigates how the ruling class employed ideological tools to shape modernization.             Findings reveal that Meiji intellectuals sought a balance between tradition and modernization. They aimed to preserve Japan’s national identity while embracing scientific and technological advancements. This dual approach aligned with Gramsci’s theory of hegemony, which stresses obtaining societal consent for change. Ultimately, the Meiji intellectual movements shaped Japan’s policies, fostering a unique modernization process that blended Western influences with indigenous traditions. This dynamic balance allowed Japan to emerge as a strong, modernized state while maintaining its cultural heritage

    Get PDF

Postgraduate education has always been a vital component of academic development, delivering specific expertise and knowledge and advancing innovation throughout different sectors of science and industry. In the context of an ever-changing environment, universities seek to improve their postgraduate programs by embracing successful models from different parts of the world. This endeavor of improvement necessitates an integrated approach to forward-looking postgraduate studies, designed to equip learners with the knowledge and competencies needed to thrive not only in conventional scholarly careers but also in a broader spectrum of positions within non-academic circles. All earnest efforts should be made to nurture the competencies of doctoral students to become applicable for diverse fields, such as industry, public or private sectors, non-profit institutions, and business organizations, therefore facilitating graduates to find their way in a competitive labour market successfully. The focus of this paper is to identify and analyze the advantages associated with experiential teaching and learning through professor assistantships and cooperative research in doctoral programs. This paper uses qualitative data and analyzes them from institutional policy documents and primary documents such as curriculum and policies for teaching/learning in postgraduate courses at Columbia Teachers College, NYU, and recent changes to institutional regulations concerning doctoral education at International Black Sea University (IBSU). Additionally, it investigates specific mechanisms embedded in these programs that foster development at both the prospective academic and professional levels. The findings suggest that professor assistantships and collaborative research are considered valuable experiences that benefit both doctoral students and the staff of the university through the development of teaching experience, professional development, and mentor/mentee relationships. Finally, this paper gives insight and recommendations for Georgian universities based on successful models found and could have implications for the quality and relevance of doctoral programs and their ability to prepare graduates for the competitive and diverse labour markets

Multi-Level Governance and Industrial Engagement in Renewable Energy Communities. Pre-Regulatory Study from Lombardy

    Get PDF
This study investigates the early-stage development of renewable energy communities in Italy, focusing on how small and medium-sized industries in the Lombardy region perceived and responded to communication efforts before the full implementation of new regulatory frameworks and economic incentives. The research is based on data collected through a targeted survey conducted among industrial firms. The analysis explores the roles played by national and regional institutions, as well as local public authorities such as municipalities, in shaping awareness and interest in renewable energy participation. A non-parametric statistical test was used to assess the influence of different governance levels on industrial engagement. Results indicate that local public authorities exert a significantly stronger influence on industrial perceptions and willingness to engage in renewable energy communities than higher-level institutions. This suggests that trust-based, locally driven communication strategies are more effective than top-down approaches. The findings highlight the need for coordinated, place-based governance strategies that reinforce the role of local actors in energy transition initiatives. Municipalities and similar authorities may serve as crucial intermediaries, translating national strategies into meaningful local action. By capturing perceptions before regulatory incentives were introduced, this study offers a unique and unbiased perspective on how industries naturally relate to different governance actors. It contributes to the broader understanding of how communication and trust shape participation in sustainable energy systems
