Impact of Nurse Residency Programs on Retention and Job Satisfaction: An Integrative Review
Objects: Retention of new nurses is vital within the context of the nursing shortage Canada is currently facing. Nurse residency programs (NRP) need to be explored to better understand their role in combating the nursing shortage. The aim of this study is to explore current nurse residency programs and their impacts on retention and job satisfaction with the aim to inform development of similar programs in Canada. Methods: The study utilized Whittemore and Knafl’s integrative review methodology to review current literature on nurse residency programs in The United States of America with focuses on retention rates, job satisfaction and intent to leave. Overall, this article drew on seven distinct research studies. Findings: The literature review found that Nurse Residency Programs (NRP) can improve retention rates however, this may be due to contracts signed upon beginning of NRP. Job satisfaction for newly licensed registered nurses (NLRNs) participating in NRP also showed improvements but their impact on reducing turnover intention is unclear and needs further study. Conclusion: The impact of nurse residency programs on retention and job satisfaction has some positive effects, but the strength of this relationship remains unclear and would benefit from further research
Empowering Diversity in Education: A Web-Based Tool for Real-Time Sign Language Detection
People worldwide have severe hearing loss and there is little to no technological involvement to empower diversity and inclusion in the education system. This study aims to provide an understanding of the needs of the community of such individuals and a possible solution to the problem using current advances in artificial intelligence technologies. In particular, we will present a solution to the problem through a real-time sign language detection web application. First, the structural and functional aspects of the application are described, followed by the software architecture needs. The technological aspect of the application is entirely defined by expressing all the significant implementations of each programming language contained behind the software diagrams and architecture. This study will provide the latest technologies in the market combined with a well-planned and developed image detection application that is scalable, portable, maintainable, and efficient in empowering diversity in education. This technologically up-to-date application is delivered as a full-stack web application. The application produces results that waver between 85%-95% quality off detection; it consists of a bi-partite backend, one for creating and compiling models, namely Python, TensorFlow, and Jupyter Notebooks, and the other part held by Node.JS to power the front-end built with React and TensorFlow's JS. This study presents a fully developed web-based application that has the potential to impact and improve diversity in education significantly
The Impact of Economic Growth, Energy and Electricity Consumption Usage on CO2 Emissions: A Case Study of Morocco
Given the uncontrolled increase in environmental pollution and degradation of environmental quality worldwide, the environmental impact of economic growth has become a major focus in recent decades the most important question is: How does economic growth affect environmental quality? This study addressed this issue, examining the nature of the long-run relationship between economic growth per capita and pollutant emissions in Morocco. For this reason, the ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lag) modeling approach was used from 1990 to 2020. This approach mainly includes time series analysis and cointegration. The relationship tested introduces four variables: carbon dioxide (CO2), energy consumption per capita, electricity consumption per capita and GDP per capita. The main results indicate a long-term relationship between economic growth, energy consumption and CO2 emissions, indicating that a 1% increase in electricity consumption increases CO2 emissions by 0.36%. On the other hand, a 1% increase in GDP per capita increases CO2 emissions by 0.76%, and a 1% increase in energy consumption increases emissions by 2.06%. Thus, all variables show a significant effect.
In conclusion, the strategy that Morocco needs to follow to solve our problems is to prioritize investment in research, development and artificial intelligence, while providing adequate training in energy-related fields
Class, Power, and Social Change: A New Historicist Approach to August Strindberg’s Miss Julie and Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard
This paper conducts a new historicist analysis of Strindberg’s Miss Julie (2008) and Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard (1951), exploring how these plays reflect and respond to the social, political, and cultural dynamics of late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. By examining the interaction between literature and history, this study reveals how these works depict the tensions between old and new social orders, the shift of power dynamics, and the struggles of individuals caught in the midst of profound societal changes. Although both classic works have been the subject of a lot of critical studies, neither has been studied from a new historicist perspective. The shift in power dynamics at the very beginning of the twentieth century with the deterioration of the aristocratic sovereignty and the rise of the middle class is prominent theme in both plays. This shift conveys the inevitability of change that disrupts routines, norms, and tradition. From a new historicist perspective, those who are marginalized do not necessarily match readers’ initial assumptions, as the measures used to exhume the stigmatized characters are never the same as those utilized in other theoretical frameworks. It is not a battle between two antagonistic groups; nor is it a Greek tragedy that instigates catharsis upon the heroes’ tragic falls, simply because there is no hero, only an antihero. While Strindberg focuses on the changing role of women and the emergence of feminism in addition to class struggle, a new historicist approach reads these radical social, political, and economic changes as a result of historical changes taking place in Europe during that era. Chekhov, in turn, depicts the historical fall of aristocrats who had started to lose power on behalf of wild capitalism during the same era
Influence of Product, Price, Promotion and Place on Banana Market Trend in Kilimanjaro-Tanzania
The study focuses on the Product, Price, Promotion and Place On Banana Market Trend In Kilimanjaro, it provides the market strategy to enhance the competitiveness of banana companies in the current market dynamics. Through quantitative research, this paper revealed the effectiveness of (4P) in the Banana marketing strategy and the significant links between place, price, products, promotion and the impact in increasing the market opportunity in the banana sector. Specifically, the study evaluates the performance of marketing strategy practices across various dimensions. Marketing mix strategy were explored in terms of Product, Price, Promotion and Place. In addition, the data was collected from 575 banana growers throughout 52 wards. This study employed a cross-sectional survey approach to examine the commercial viability of the banana value chain, and the corresponding questionnaires were successfully collected. The results show (99.3%) of banana growers have a great challenge with access to the market and poor price information. Moreover, the producers (62.8%) rely on the middlemen rather than delivering bananas to the Private Banana Company. Based on these findings; for the farmers and private sector to generate growth and excellence, Private Banana Company need to decentralize their business model and develop a marketing strategy by implementing its marketing mix in a way that will acquire and then sustain its competitive edge in the market. These will enhance the competitiveness of banana companies and lay a solid foundation for their sustainable success in the banana business
Industries face enormous environmental challenges. To do this, they must find adequate means to preserve natural resources as well as the quality of the environment in their locations. The objective of this study is to evaluate the environmental performance of the Bobo 1, 2 and Banfora 1, 2 cotton ginning factories of SOFITEX in Burkina Faso. To do this, management and operational performance indicators and environmental conditions indicators were used for the evaluation. In addition, indices were determined and evaluated by 5 for all the indices considered and a weighting of the scores obtained for each of the three indicators was carried out. The results of the environmental performance assessment show that the factories all have a score of 4.75. This is due to the existence of an environmental policy within SOFITEX and environmental audits are carried out periodically. Regarding the evaluation of operational performance indicators, the Bobo 1 factory has a performance below 50% while the Bobo 2 and Banfora 1, 2 factories each have an acceptable performance above 50%. The assessment of the overall environmental performance of the factories indicates a satisfactory level with scores of 2.38 (47.6%) for Bobo 1, 2.78 (55.6%) for Bobo 2 and a score of 2.58 for Banfora 1 and 2. According to this analysis, it would be interesting for SOFITEX to implement an effective environmental management system such as the ISO 14001 standard. This could promote an improvement in the environmental performance of factories
The aim of this work is to map water mineralization-bearing faults through the coupled use of remote sensing and GIS. To this end, Landsat OLI and SRTM imagery are used to visualize and model the watershed and highlight lineamentary structures through a combination of automatic methods and manual extraction using directional filtering. At the end of the various operations, it was found that the upstream Bénoué watershed is a highly fractured zone, with a fracture density ranging from 3.03 km/Km2 to 8.63 km/Km2. A campaign to identify and collect data on hydraulic structures identified and geolocated 63 wells and 40 boreholes. Processing operations were carried out on the data from the structures, and 12 boreholes were the focus of this study. In addition, image processing was carried out to gain a better understanding of the basin's aquifers. To achieve this, the data sheets for the boreholes were used to determine the main hydraulic parameters essential to the productivity of the basement aquifers. By calculating flow rates and the transmissivity of structures superimposed on fractures or in zones of high fracture density, it was possible to map and classify the structures in order of importance. This shows that transmissivities in the basin range from 0.017 to 0.178 m2/h. This illustrates that the aquifers of Cameroon's Sudano-Sahelian basement have a strong conductive function
Cost stickiness in the Italian Mutual Banks and comparison among Less Significant Banks
This study investigates cost stickiness in the Italian banking system, with a specific focus on Less Significant (LS) banks, including Mutual Banks (MBs), during the period 2006-2019. The research seeks to identify whether LS banks exhibit asymmetric cost behavior, particularly in response to income and credit risk level variations. Utilizing a unique dataset of 5,446 observations and applying econometric models adapted from the seminal work of Anderson et al. (2003), this study provides a novel analysis of cost stickiness within a banking context, an area that has been underexplored in the existing literature. The results reveal significant cost stickiness across all LS banks, with MBs demonstrating more pronounced stickiness than other LS banks. Additionally, the findings show that higher levels of credit risk exacerbate cost stickiness, while greater efficiency mitigates this effect. These insights underscore the importance of tailored cost management strategies in the banking sector, particularly for MBs, and contribute to understanding the unique challenges LS banks face in Italy. The research’s originality lies in its focused examination of cost behavior within a distinct subset of the Italian banking system, providing new perspectives on how smaller, regionally-focused banks manage financial pressures
