    Get PDF
Purpose: The current investigation examines the uniqueness of the determinants that drives students flow to developing countries to study abroad. The study also compares these determinants with the factors influencing student mobility toward the developed world.   The theoretical framework: Various theories and models such as new migration theory, liberalisation & competition, push and pull factor model are taken as theoretical backdrop and for econometric estimation augmented models are developed by selecting relevant variables.   Methodology: Data is collected on variables from distinct sources, and panel data is prepared. Static and dynamic panel estimation is used adopting fixed effects, random effects, conditional fixed effects and Poisson random effects models.    Findings: It is concluded that return on investment, the value of degree, cost of living, and skill orientation make developing a preferred destination. In contrast, factors like seeking employment and a high-income level make them preferred over developing countries. Economic forces drive student mobility globally and within developing countries. It includes opportunities to earn income, employment in host countries (in case of developed host countries) and home countries (in case of developing countries), and cost of living.   Research Policy Implications: The study postulates policy implications in terms of attracting foreign students by understanding the dynamics of their choices, as the factors that influence the decisions to study abroad are distinct when it comes to choose a developed nation as a destination or a developing nation as a destination.   Originality/Value: The study adds to the existing body of knowledge new dimensions on inward student mobility especially towards developing countries. This helps the educators and policymakers to understand the dynamics in more detail and device appropriate strategies to attract foreign students to domestic shores.

The University System and the Issue of Performance: What Perceptions of Stakeholders? Case of Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University

    Get PDF
Purpose: The aim of this article is to understand the perception of stakeholders of university performance, its determinants, actors and influencing factors.   Theoretical Framework: The literature review shed light on the current state of the Moroccan university, namely its issues and challenges, while emphasizing the concept of performance in the complex university environment.   Design/Methodology/Approach: In the course of this research, we mobilized a qualitative approach based on a single case study, namely the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University in the city of Fez.   Findings: The analysis of stakeholders' perceptions and expectations revealed the existence of several factors influencing the university's performance: the quality of the internal environment and its ability to guarantee the quality of training, the integration of graduates into the job market, scientific production, the search for funding through contracts, research projects, motivation of researchers through the reimbursement of publication costs for their scientific research in indexed journals, and good governance. Taken together, these factors are the main determinants of Moroccan university performance.   Research, Practical & Social Implications: The results of our research will be used by neighboring universities to improve their performance. It's not just a question of looking at financial indicators such as the commitment rate to judge whether the university is efficient. We need to go beyond this dimension to touch on others, because as long as its missions and stakeholders are plural, achieving performance remains utopian in terms of its dimensions.   Originality/Value: The article's originality lies in its treatment of the notion of performance in a rather complicated environment characterized by the proliferation of its stakeholders, making it difficult to assess in comparison with other establishments. This paper will be of great added value to universities that want to make performance one of their elementary objectives by referring first and foremost to the various factors that help generate university performance

    Get PDF
Purpose: The objective of this study was to identify the internal and external factors of the sustainability of the vannamei shrimp farming business and the relationship of influence and dependence between the factors.   Theoretical framework:  Sustainability is required to create a balance between nature and humans for the use of coastal space in Kebumen Regency as a development area for the shrimp farming business to be carried out sustainably and provide sustainable benefits, as well as to preserve existing resources for long-term sustainability (UN, 2020). Development that ignores the interaction of the two results in price increases, which leads to a general decline in human welfare (Fauzi, 2019). This is to the global development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)., which call for Indonesia to become a maritime axis.   Design/methodology/approach:  The research used a participatory method with semi-structured and in-depth interviews with the shrimp farming community and FGD. The data were analyzed using the sustainability analysis technique of Matrix of Cross Impact Multiplications Applied to a Classification (MICMAC).   Findings:   Identification of key elements in the sustainability of shrimp farming is essential to overcome and limit the risk of uncertainty caused by external and internal disturbances and pressures on shrimp farms. Government policy is a variable that has a strong and large influence on the sustainability of the shrimp farming business, and good government policy will enable the shrimp farming business system to reduce the pressure and threat of continuity.   Research, Practical & Social implications:  Future research should focus on the management of shrimp farming and waste management to reduce the ecological, social, and economic impacts and the sustainability of shrimp farming that is environmentally and socially friendly.   Originality/value:   Government policy is a variable that has a strong and significant impact on aquaculture sustainability, with good government policies allowing the aquaculture system to reduce pressure and threats to shrimp. According to the facts on the ground, the shrimp farming business on the coast of Kebumen regency is operating independently due to a lack of attention, guidance, and policies governing the implementation of the shrimp aquaculture business
