INFLUENCE OF FARMER MARKETING STRATEGIES AND WATER USERS ASSOCIATIONS ON PERFORMANCE OF SMALLHOLDER IRRIGATION PROJECTS IN MIGORI COUNTY, KENYA
Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate influence of farmer marketing strategies and water users associations on performance of smallholder irrigation projects, and was aimed at enhancing smallholder irrigation project outcome success in Migori County, Kenya.
Theoretical Framework: The study was anchored on market orientation theory by Kohli and Jaworski (1990) and Narver and Slater (1990). This is because market orientation explains relationship between markets and organisational behaviour (Gotteland et al., 2007). Kohli and Jaworski (1990) explain customer needs, market competition and usefulness of a product as interacting to influence its marketability.
Method: Using cross-sectional and correlational research design, the study collected data from 341 farmers out of a target population of 2815 in 15 smallholder irrigation projects in Migori County using a 5-Point Likert Scale questionnaire. The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results and Discussion: The results show that farmer marketing strategies accounts for 64.1% of findings in the model, with group marketing having the most significant influence on performance. The results also show that introduction of water users associations increases coefficient of determination (Δr2) by + 0.121, indicating a positive modest moderating influence on the relationship between predictor and dependent variables.
Research Implications: The study confirms that farmer marketing strategies influence performance of smallholder irrigation projects, and that water users associations positively but modestly influence the relationship. Empirically, the study highlights the importance of cooperative societies, agro-processing and irrigation management transfer in smallholder irrigation.
Originality/Value: This study adds to empirical data on farmer marketing strategies, water users associations and smallholder irrigation. In highlighting these aspects, the findings have potential to benefit development agencies in smallholder irrigation

WHAT IS EMO-DECISION-MAKING CONTAGION? THE CONCEPT AND MECHANISMS
Objective: This article aims to present a new topic for the marketing literature: emo-decision-making contagion. This concept is developed from Hatfield et al.’s (2014, 1994) work and the research conducted by Pire-Lechalard and Van-Hoorebeke (2021) in the context of decision-making.
Theoretical Framework: The decision depends on emotion. However, emotion has a primordial characteristic, namely its contagiousness (Chaabi, 2023; Pire-Lechalard & Van-Hoorebeke, 2021). Hence the genesis of the concept of emo-decision-making contagion. Until now, the study of this concept has been ignored in the marketing field, and researchers focus, rather, on ad hoc concepts such as social influence. This article attempts, through a well-defined methodology, to define emo-decision-making contagion and establish its theoretical underpinnings, so that it is useful and beneficial for marketing practitioners.
Method: To penetrate the experiences of the respondents and explore the human constructions around emo-decision-making contagion, a qualitative study was conducted with a sample of 30 individuals. Therefore, we chose the interview as the data collection method. Similarly, to ensure greater consistency in this exploratory study, we limited our focus to a specific area: fashion products, specifically textile items.
Results: The results indicate that this concept is defined as the propensity of individuals to reproduce and copy the purchasing decisions of a group leader unconsciously and massively. These decisions are intended to serve as a lesson and are transmitted through the sharing of emotions with the members of the group and identification with them, to have a specific result or to be in conformity with this group.
Conclusions: As emo-decision-making contagion does indeed exist, it is suggested to focus on the study of this concept, which can be a very effective and attractive strategy in communication and advertising, and understanding the mechanisms underlying EDMC can help marketers improve their commercial approaches or develop better ones

Objectives: This article analyzes the legitimacy of the civil association to request judicial reorganization, and overcome any economic and financial crisis. Alternatively, the possibility of converting the civil association into a business company for use by the reorganization institute is evaluated.
Theoretical Framework: The analysis of the proposed problem was based on the theory of piercing the corporate veil, as well as the theories of technical reality, on which article 45 of the Brazilian Civil Code was based. With regard to the constitutional basis, the principles of free enterprise and the mitigated finalist theory, adopted by the Consumer Protection Code, were collated.
Method: The research was carried out mainly through the methodology of data collection contained in bibliographic survey and jurisprudential decisions.
Results: From the methodology adopted, it was possible to conclude that, although the decisions on the subject are incipient, there is a tendency of the higher courts to legitimize the civil association to request judicial reorganization, as long as it carries out economic activity.
Discussion: In view of the normative uncertainty about the legitimacy of the civil association to request judicial reorganization, it was up to the national judges, using hermeneutics, to analyze such a situation in practice and bring a definition to the case. The lower courts have divergent positions on the possibility of the civil association requesting judicial reorganization. The favorable decisions, in general, understood that there is no express prohibition of Law 11,101 of 2005. On the other hand, the unfavorable decisions are guided precisely by the opposite, that is, that Law 11,101 of 2005 does not expressly legitimize the association to use judicial reorganization.
Research implications: In practice, the recognition of the legitimacy of civil associations to request judicial reorganization provides a solution for such entities to overcome situations of economic and financial crises. In view of the large number of civil associations that are dedicated to business of a business nature, the conclusion about such a possibility has a direct impact on the ventures carried out in this modality in the national market.
Originality/Value: The research is aimed at the non-profit civil association, but which performs economic activity through the circulation of goods and services. This reality is little explored in the literature, even though these entities are responsible for a considerable portion of business in the Brazilian economy.
