Awareness and Acceptability on the Institution’s Vision, Mission, Goals and Quality Policy in One State College in the Philippines
The Vision, Mission, Goals and Quality Policy serve as concrete guides for the future of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges. This descriptive survey research determined the means of promoting and disseminating the VMG and QP, and the extent of awareness, acceptability and internalization of the stakeholders on the institution’s VMG and QP. Data were gathered through questionnaire distributed personally to 1,033 respondents. Finding showed that there are various means of promoting and disseminating the VMG and QP. The respondents show that their perceptions along VMG and QP are highly aware, highly acceptable and highly internalized. Also, result shows that there is no relationship between the respondents’ level of awareness and level of acceptability, and there is a difference between the perception of internal and external stakeholders in terms of awareness, acceptability and internalization. Measures to enhance/sustain the level of awareness, acceptability and internalization of VMG and QP is to intensify dissemination through various modes: print and non-print media
Levels of Oral Communication Skills and Speaking Anxiety of Educators in a Polytechnic College in the Philippines
Regardless of the profession, everyone should possess good communication skills in different contexts. Although scholars have contributed studies showing the communication anxieties and proficiencies of speakers to different languages, there are limited studies that deal with the educators’ context. To add contribution to this field, the researcher utilized a correlational research design to determine the relationship between the educators' oral communication skills and speaking anxiety. The study used the frameworks of Pontillas (2020) and McCroskey (1977). The researcher chose Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges as the locale of the study and utilized 25 teacher-participants from the different departments of the College. The participants underwent an impromptu speaking activity to determine their oral communication skills’ level. They filled out the Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (PRPSA) test developed by McCroskey (1970) to assess their perceived speaking anxiety. The two variables' results were correlated using Pearson’s Moment of Correlation and found a significant correlation between the two variables. Environmental factors, personal experiences, and exposure were factors determined by the researcher affecting their speaking skills and anxiety. The researchers recommend that the institution should implement intervention programs for educators to improve their oral communication skills. Furthermore, Higher Education Institutions offering Education undergraduate programs should add additional communication courses to the curriculum
Unraveling the Nexus of Science & Technology Input and Economic Growth through Research & Development (R&D) Indicators in Asia-pacific Region: A Panel Data and Causality Analysis
This paper unravels the critical aspect of science and technology through research and development indicators as sources, drivers, and predictors of economic growth from the perspective of two developing countries, namely: Philippines and Thailand (ASEAN), and two developed economies, namely: Japan and Australia (ASEAN-X) in Asia-Pacific Region. The data set ranges from 1980 to 2019 and is collected from World Development Indicators of the World Bank, Institute for Statistics of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Research and Development (R&D) is a tool for generating new knowledge and serves as input for technological advancement. In the long run, it has been proven that technology can sustain permanent economic development in the economy. In developed economies, the nexus between the aforementioned variables is robust and significant. Thus, the R&D indicators can be used as a predictor of economic growth. However, in developing economies, the nexus of variables involved is negligible and insignificant. Hence, the R&D indicators cannot be effectively utilized as a predictor of economic growth. Furthermore, the study combined the two sets of panel data and a relevant conclusion was drawn. A country-panel regression and causality analysis were performed based on the empirics of macroeconomics
Opportunities and Challenges of a Filipino Educator in a Home-based Online EFL Industry: A Single Case Study
Filipino educators are known for their remarkable traits in the teaching profession here and abroad. One of the most in-demand fields is English teachers. Studies have shown that non-native speakers have high regard for Filipino teachers in ESL/EFL schools. Because of the availability of technology in today’s time, Filipino teachers do not need to go abroad to teach international students. This study utilized a single-case research method with a single participant who has been in the online industry for almost eight years now. Teacher John of Company A shared his experience highlighting the opportunities and challenges he encountered as a home-based online teacher. The study is guided with constructivism as the main framework of the study and thematic analysis to generate the themes of the data. The themes identified include: background of the participant; the application process; adjustment and investment to the company; handling a class; company rules and regulations; personal and professional development. The findings of the study showed that the opportunities and challenges faced by online teachers paved the way for their personal and professional development. The researcher recommended that other researchers could explore factors affecting the computer-mediated set-up of English language teaching
Home Quarantine Challenges and Psychological Status of Bangladeshi University Students during COVID-19
The study determined the home quarantine challenges and psychological status of Bangladeshi University students in the COVID-19 pandemic break-out. The study also looked into the impact of home quarantine challenges on the psychological status of the student. A well-structured questionnaire was created and circulated to respondents through various social media platforms and utilized the snowball sampling technique. A total of 250 graduate and undergraduate students were taken as respondents of this study. Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) software was used to complete the data analysis procedure. The findings of the study show that the most noteworthy home quarantine challenges for Bangladeshi University students are the lack of awareness of home quarantine advantages (82%), insufficient financial support from their families (78%), and unsatisfactory medical support (77%). Also, home quarantine challenges are positively connected to psychological status (r=.364**) and it had a significant impact (β=.287, p<0.00) on psychological status in the pandemic period. The study also aided the policymakers in the better understanding of home quarantine challenges and the psychological status of Bangladeshi students. However, out of seven divisions in Bangladesh only students of Dhaka and Sylhet were selected to be the respondents. This caused difficulty in generalizing the findings of the study

On behalf of the Editorial Board, I am delighted to present Volume 1, Issue 2: September 2021 of the Journal of Education, Management and Development Studies (JEMDS). On this issue, we have featured high-quality articles focusing on different key areas, especially on the new normal brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. This issue marks how the journal has recently transitioned from Semi-Annual to Quarterly to cater to the growing demands of submission.
Furthermore, the journal is now being abstracted and indexed in various academic databases. We have also registered with E-ISSN and Crossref. Articles published in the journal and its references are now included in the Crossref Database and provided by Digital Object Identifier (DOI) as a digital footprint to ensure that readers can reliably locate the articles.
We could not attain these milestones without the support of the Editorial Board, invited Reviewers and the Authors as the key players in achieving the goal of the journal to publish original research papers, reviews, and case studies related to broad areas of disciplines, including Education, Environment and Natural Resources, Health Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Public Management, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, and Gender and Development.

Education in Emergency-The School Managers’ Practices on Risk Reduction and Management of Disaster
This descriptive-correlation study established the relationship between the profile as to the level of practice of the school managers on the five thematic areas of the SchoolDisaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) program of the Department of education (DepEd). The study involved 30 respondents through a stratified random sampling technique and adopted a survey- questionnaire from Campilla (2016). It has four components, the profile of the school managers, self-assessment checklist for the SDRRM level of practice, problems encountered, and suggested solutions.SPSS was the tool in generating statistical data. The majority of the respondents are in the middle age group, mostly female, married status, pursued higher studies, old hand in school management, and attended training/seminars on SDRRM. Their disaster preparedness, management, and mitigation are on highly practiced level. While the disaster response and recovery are at the practiced level. In general, the overall level of practice on SDRRM is at a practiced level. The study further revealed that there is no significant relationship between the profile and level of practice of the respondents. However, age shows a significant relationship in the thematic areas of SDRRM. A significant difference in the level of practice of elementary school managers to that of the secondary school managers. Lack and unavailability of funds and other resources are the common problems encountered by respondents in the implementation of the program while the topmost suggested solution is the provision of appropriate and relevant training to SDRRM
I am a Survivor: Experiences, Impacts and Coping Mechanisms of Filipino Victims of Sexual Violence
Sexual violence is a catastrophic phenomenon that most women encounter worldwide. However, the stigma surrounding the victims of sexual violence often leads to a culture of silence, causing the number of such cases to be underreported, leading to limited sexual violence-related studies. With this, the goal of this study is to contribute additional information on the experiences of Filipino victims with sexual violence, its impacts, and their coping mechanisms. Ten Filipino women, who were victims of sexual violence, were interviewed in this study. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the gathered data. Themes on their experiences, the effects of sexual violence, and their coping mechanisms were formulated and presented in this study. The study showed that the most common type of sexual violence experienced by the participants was rape. They also reported feelings of fear during and after the abuse. Feelings of shame and guilt were also experienced, which kept them silent about their negative experiences. Experiencing sexual violence can have negative impacts on an individual's total well–being. To cope with these adverse experiences, they sought support from their families and friends. Some confronted their problems and even employed positive reappraisal, while some used avoidance coping
The Roles of Internal Locus of Control and Grit in Managing the Academic Stress of Senior High School Students in Southern Luzon State University
Any individual who transitions through different stages of life inevitably experience stress, especially adolescents who undergo physiological and psychological changes. This is the stage where they have to make relevant decisions including the academic courses they have to take for their future career. The overwhelming expectations that they are experiencing from their family, teachers and society to excel academically have been shown to cause distress among adolescents. It is, therefore, becomes imperative to study possible protective factors to formulate efficient intervention techniques. Two of the most studied constructs that have been linked to academic success are internal locus of control and grit. However, limited research has been conducted to investigate these two constructs with academic stress, especially among Filipino adolescents. The current study explored the roles of internal locus of control and grit in managing academic stress. A sample of 165 senior high school students from Southern Luzon State University-Main Campus was involved in this study. Results showed that both grit and internal locus of control are negatively correlated with academic stress. It was also shown that grit is positively associated with an internal locus of control although one is not a predictor of another
The Employment Profile of Graduates in a State University in Bicol Region, Philippines
The conduct of a tracer study is a potent tool that documents the profile of the graduates which gives implications of how well pre-service training is given. This study focused on the employment profile of the graduates of Bicol University Gubat Campus, Philippines from 2015 to 2017 and analyzed the congruence of courses taken and the employment of the graduates. It gathered feedback from the employers of the graduates as to extent of the competencies they demonstrated in the performance of the job assigned to them. The study covered the seven (7) courses offered namely: Bachelor in Secondary Education, Bachelor of Elementary Education, AB in Peace Studies, BS in Computer Science, BS in Entrepreneurship, BSBA major in Microfinance, and Bachelor of Agricultural Technology. Using the descriptive data analysis method, the study probed on the frequency of responses of its key informants/subjects. Data generated were taken from two sets of instruments administered to both graduates and their employers. Results revealed that the graduates are employable. Most of the graduates were in jobs that are highly congruent with their school training. However, the college must still take measures to improve the skills of the graduates
