Evaluating the impact of autonomous material handling on the performance of production system: a simulation approach
In developing countries, low employment rates lead to manual material handling due to low labor costs. This article analyzes the impact of transitioning from semi-manual to fully automatic material handling systems by replacing the hand pallet system with AGV for transporting materials on the production floor. A simulation model was created to evaluate the impact of the transition on cost and quality. The model focuses on production lines with predetermined pathways and fixed working hours for workstations. The discrete event simulation was developed using ExtendSim. Queuing theory model is employed to assess the utilization of resources within the system. Three scenarios are developed: a human system, systems with 2 AGVs, and 3 AGVs.The findings suggest that systems with AGVs surpass human-operated systems in terms of system reliability, cost-effectiveness, and product excellence. The findings provide essential insights for management decision-making, specifically for deterministic production lines. The research findings emphasize the possibility of significant enhancements in production system performance by implementing autonomous material handling
Experimental investigation of the Moment Bolted Coupler (MBT) with steel on the bond strength under different monotonic pull-out tests
The bond strength between steel reinforcement bars and mechanical bolted couplers (MBT) is essential for the structural integrity of reinforced concrete structures. However, various pull-out test methods yield inconsistent results when assessing this bond strength. This research examines the impact of reinforcement bar diameter (12mm, 16mm, and 20mm) and three different pull-out test configurations (M1, M2, and M3) on the bond strength of MBT couplers. The M1 method, employing direct tensile loading and a standard clamp zone, consistently produced the highest bond strength values across all bar diameters. Its simplicity, reliability, and adherence to standardized procedures make it the preferred method for determining the maximum bond capacity of MBTs. While the M2 and M3 methods offer insights into coupler behavior under complex loading scenarios, they exhibit lower bond strength values compared to M1. The M1 pull-out test method is recommended as the primary method for evaluating the bond strength of MBT in practical applications, with M2 testing as a potential supplement for a more comprehensive understanding of coupler behavior
Human vs machine learning in face recognition: a case study from the travel industry
This research was conducted to help answer whether a machine learning simulation can replace the human ability to recognize human faces, especially under challenges under travel industry requirements. The human ability to recognize faces was evaluated using a series of questions in a survey. The questions challenged the human respondents to recognize faces under similar looks, with hair and makeup disguises, only part of the facial area, and under dark lighting conditions. At the same time, a histogram of oriented gradient (HoG) combined with a support vector machine (SVM) was built for machine learning simulations. The machine learning was evaluated using two datasets, i.e., the Extended Yale B (EYB) Face dataset for challenge under dark lighting conditions and The Extended Makeup Face Dataset (EMFD) for challenge using face with makeup disguise. The results showed that machine learning simulation of the face recognition system yielded accuracy as high as 95.4% under dark lighting conditions and 70.8% under facial makeup disguise. On the contrary, only 48% of respondents accurately recognized human faces in dark lighting. The number was increased to 94-96% when the face images were adjusted first with the contrast adjustment method. However, only 36-37% of respondents accurately recognized human faces under face makeup disguise.
Design of path planning robot simulator by applying sampling based method
This research aims to create a simulator for solving the global path planning of mobile robots. Various sampling-based methods such as Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT), RRT*, and Fast-RRT, along with other derivative algorithms, have been widely used to solve path-planning problems in mobile robots. The level of computational efficiency, path optimality, and the ability to adapt to variant environments are some of the issues that still arise, although these techniques have shown good results in many cases. Although the existing solutions are innovative, comparison between the existing methods is still difficult due to significant differences in convergence speed, implementation complexity, and quality of the resulting paths. This makes choosing the most suitable method for a particular application difficult. The simulator uses sampling-based path planning algorithms such as RRT*, Fast RRT*, RRT*-Smart, informed-RRT*, and Honey Bee Mating Optimization-based Fast-RRT*. With this simulator, users can easily compare the performance of each algorithm and see the characteristics and efficiency of each algorithm in various situations. By running all methods through this simulator, the user can easily compare the methods based on convergence speed and optimality. Therefore, it will effectively help users understand robot navigation, improve the quality of learning, and promote the development of path-planning technology for mobile robots
A systematic review of methods for reducing embodied energy in building materials: a quantitative cradle-to-gate analysis
Reducing embodied energy (EE) in building materials is a critical aspect of achieving sustainable building construction. Embodied energy refers to the total energy consumed in the extraction, processing, transportation, and manufacturing of building materials before they reach the construction site. In conventional buildings, total energy consumption is predominantly influenced by operational energy (OE), which includes energy used for heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation throughout the building’s lifespan. However, in energy-efficient buildings, the proportion of EE to total energy demand becomes more significant, sometimes equaling or surpassing OE. This shift highlights the growing importance of minimizing EE in sustainable building design. This study conducts a systematic review using the PRISMA framework, extracting relevant data from the Scopus database to categorize methods for reducing EE within cradle-to-gate systems. These methods are classified into three phases: the material phase, the construction method phase, and the design phase. The material phase includes three approaches: mixed material intervention, production process intervention, and material substitution. The construction method phase encompasses two approaches: building component substitution and process or method substitution. Finally, the design phase focuses on interventions at the building design level. Despite these classifications, the findings suggest that no single phase or approach demonstrates a significantly greater impact on EE reduction than the others. Each approach contributes comparably to reducing EE, highlighting that while notable progress has been made, the relative effectiveness of individual methods remains consistent across phases. Integrated approaches combining strategies across multiple phases hold promise for substantial reductions in EE, emphasizing the need for future research to refine and innovate these methodologies.

Pengembangan Relai Adaptif Proteksi Busbar Menggunakan Relai Berbasis Protokol IEC61850

Prioritizing Franchise Expansion with AHP: Strategic Evaluation of Special Product Placement in Minimarkets
This study examines the strategic decision-making process involved in expanding franchise minimarkets by pinpointing optimal locations for launching special product offerings. Utilizing the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), the research assesses eight alternative location types to establish priority rankings based on various decision criteria. Data were gathered through structured questionnaires administered to expert respondents, and pairwise comparisons were performed to evaluate the relative importance of both criteria and alternatives. The analysis identifies rest areas on toll roads as the most advantageous locations for expansion, followed by vertical residential complexes and office buildings. Among the criteria, potential customer volume and daily traffic flow proved to be the most influential factors in the decision-making process. Consistency ratio analysis verified the reliability of the AHP model. These findings offer actionable insights for franchise operators, highlighting the importance of targeting high-traffic locations to improve sales performance and operational efficiency. The study concludes that prioritizing rest area locations can significantly facilitate strategic growth and the effective placement of special products within existing minimarkets
Asean Sharia Stocks Amidst The Fed's Policy Dynamics
