Analysis of Variation in Fiber Volume Fraction on Torsional Strength of Epoxy and Polyester Matrix Coconut Fiber Composites

    No full text
Natural fibers can be employed to enhance the strength and rigidity of composite structures. These fibers can be combined with matrix materials to create composite materials. One specific example of a natural fiber is coconut fiber. Unfortunately, coconut fiber is currently underutilized, leading to organic waste. However, coconut fiber offers several advantages as a substitute for automotive product composites despite facing specific technical challenges. Hence, it is important to understand the potential of coconut fiber composites with epoxy and polyester matrices. This study aimed to assess the capabilities of coconut fiber composites with epoxy and polyester matrices through a torsion test. The study involved conducting torsion tests on composites with varying volume fractions, precisely 25:75, 30:70, 35:65, and 40:60 (coconut fiber fraction to polyester/epoxy fraction). The research entailed creating torsion test specimens and performing the torsion tests. Subsequently, an analysis of the torsion test results was conducted. This research indicates that coconut fiber with an epoxy matrix demonstrated a maximum stress value of 31.27 MPa and a maximum shear strain value of 1.022 rad at a 30% volume fraction. Similarly, coconut fiber composite with a polyester matrix exhibited a maximum stress value of 27.83 MPa and a maximum shear strain value of 0.91 at a 30% volume fraction. Based on these outcomes, it can be concluded that the optimal volume fraction of coconut fiber for producing satisfactory specimens is 30%, regardless of whether the composites have epoxy or polyester matrices

Performance Analysis of Centrifugal Pumps Before and After Wear Ring Restoration

    No full text
A pump is a mechanical device used to move fluids from a lower elevation to a higher one. In general, pumps are classified into two types: positive displacement pumps and non-positive displacement pumps. Centrifugal pumps fall into the latter category and operate by converting mechanical energy into kinetic energy to transport fluids. A centrifugal pump consists of several key components, including the casing, shaft, bearing, coupling, and impeller. In the case of closed impeller-type centrifugal pumps, wear rings (wearing components) are installed to provide a clearance between the impeller and the casing, preventing physical contact during operation. The size of this clearance significantly affects pump performance. Wear ring damage can result from mechanical wear, corrosion, cavitation, and fatigue, leading to performance losses such as reduced flow rate, lower pressure, and decreased efficiency. This research aims to analyze the effect of wear ring damage on the performance of a centrifugal pump by comparing operational data before and after repair of the wearing components. The performance parameters evaluated include pump head, pressure, hydraulic power, motor power, and overall efficiency. Data were collected through a structured procedure consisting of preparation, testing, measurement, and analysis. Prior to repair, the pump operated with a wear ring clearance of 1.2 mm, resulting in an average efficiency of 8.5% and a flow rate of 0.000646 m³/s. After the clearance was restored to 0.43 mm, the average efficiency increased to 15.5%, with a corresponding flow rate of 0.000932 m³/s. These results demonstrate that maintaining wear ring clearance within recommended standards significantly improves pump performance, highlighting the importance of regular maintenance and timely component repair

Decision Support System in Determining the Optimal Raw Material Supplier Using a Combination of Entropy and MOORA

    No full text
The selection of the right raw material supplier plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and sustainability of supply chain management. However, the decision-making process is often complex due to the multiple criteria that must be considered simultaneously, such as quality, price, delivery timeliness, production capacity, and flexibility. To address this challenge, this study applies a decision support system that integrates the Entropy method for objective weighting of criteria and the MOORA method for ranking alternatives. Entropy weighting provides an unbiased determination of the importance of each criterion based on data variation, while MOORA delivers a systematic ranking of suppliers by combining benefit and cost criteria into a comprehensive performance score. The results of the analysis on eight supplier alternatives show that Supplier S8 achieves the highest ranking, followed by Supplier S3 and Supplier S6, indicating their superior ability to meet the defined criteria, especially in capacity and flexibility. Meanwhile, Supplier S4 ranks the lowest, reflecting its relatively weaker performance across several aspects. These findings demonstrate that the combination of Entropy and MOORA provides a reliable, objective, and transparent framework to support decision-making in supplier selection
