Resonance between Innovation and Consumers: Suggestions for Emerging Market Customers

    Get PDF
Consumption increase in emerging markets is significant for global sustainability as it helps in overcoming structural impediments that impede investment inducement. In this light, the paper aims at demonstrating a hypothesis that resonance between innovation and consumers triggers co-emergence of investment essential for an emerging market and further analyses resonant behavior between attractive goods and consumers. The elevation in face temperature of consumers looking at attractive goods was measured at the event corner of a Japanese supermarket by utilizing thermography. Noteworthy findings obtained include that consumer temperatures increase as they perceive, recognize and decide to purchase attractive goods while elevated temperatures decrease when the goods are not attractive enough to purchase. Consumer couples also incorporate a general tendency to converge toward the same decision in a resonant way. Through correlation analysis of sales records, it was demonstrated that sales of attractive goods represents innovation which increases by resonating consumer demand through construction of a spirally developing virtuous cycle. These findings provide a constructive suggestion for stimulating latent consumer vitality in emerging markets as a way of inducing investment

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to explore how social media strategies can be integrated with the function of revenue management. A survey was used to evaluate the extent to which some travel firms use/perceive social media. This study explores possible synergy between the time spent developing social media channels and the opportunities these might generate for travel firms active in the application of revenue management tactics. This has lead to the recommendation of new practices that could potentially enhance future revenue and profit. The present study identifies that travel firms can build opportunities to capture additional revenues by focusing on building engaging and useful content for customers. The travel industry is just beginning to embrace the need to combine public relations (PR) activities with new marketing approaches that must engage, rather that use interruption and coercion to generate sales. As engagement of the public with social media grows, it is evident that this will have implications for revenue management approaches, in the same way that approaches to PR and marketing have needed to evolve with the growth in online interaction between consumers. A shift in strategic outlook may enhance the ability of travel companies to sell valued products, improve customer relationships and increase their bottom-line; hence it becomes even more important for such organizations to ensure they have a solid social media strategy

An Analysis of Product Life Cycle Orientation in PLM Software Tool Vendors

    Get PDF
A challenge in implementation of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools is the selection of the right vendor and the solution. Implementing PLM entails huge financial investment on the part of the user and hence precise knowledge as to where each tool can be applied is a must. In this paper, seven PLM tool vendors are compared on their definitions of PLM and also their product offerings in different Product Life Cycle (PLC) phases, including the extreme ends of PLC viz. R&D and end-of-life phase, which are usually ignored. An integrated PLC model is developed and the tools are then mapped onto different phases of PLC. Vendors are compared based on number of tools offered in different PLC phases. The results reveal an uneven distribution in the applicability of various tools, with majority of them focusing on the product development phase and an astonishingly low number on the R&D and end-of-life phases

    Get PDF
There has been limited research in the Indian Internet advertising space and this paper explores the media preferences of Indian marketers highlighting their attitude towards the new medium. Since Internet penetration is rising in India, the research also identifies whether advertisers prefer a synergy between the traditional mediums and Internet Technology for their advertising campaigns. The paper is based on empirical research conducted amongst 69 Indian marketers/ advertisers belonging to New Delhi and Mumbai (India) and 50 Indian advertising/ online agency professionals. Advertisers have been chosen from industry verticals including Banking and Financial Institutions, Automobile, Fast Moving Consumer Durables (FMCG) and Telecom because they include the top advertising spenders in India (KPMG and FICCI, 2010). Views from advertising agency professionals, published in trade magazines, are considered to further substantiate the research findings through industry inputs. Based on some unique strengths of Internet advertising , Indian marketers respond positively towards including Internet in the media mix and believe in drawing synergy between Internet and traditional mediums. However they are still apprehensive about the efficacy of the medium. Indian advertising agency professionals consider it important to include Internet in the media mix, however they do not push the medium aggressively. The study identifies that Indian marketers and advertisers prefer to use Internet Technology and web advertising, in a campaign\'s media mix only when the campaign is also run on traditional mediums. In seclusion, the medium is not the preferred choice for advertising. The paper pinpoints the reasons for the slow acceptability of Internet advertising amongst Indian marketers and suggests learning of advertising agency professionals to leverage maximum benefit out this interactive medium. The paper also offers insight to academicians who wish to explore the changing dimensions in communication managemen

Using the Genetic Algorithm for Optimization of the Integrated Urban Transportation Systems

    Get PDF
Improving the public transportation problems should rely on integrated multidimensional transport policies which can soften the demand of infrastructure investment. However, it would be very difficult to fully consider the multi-dimensional transport polices in planning framework because there would be too many possible policy combinations to be evaluated. So, this study attempts to develop an analytic framework for evaluating urban integrated transport policies comprehensively, including strategies of investment, pricing, management and regulation. To deal with the difficulty of too many policy combinations, genetic algorithms will be used to search for the optimal strategy combination for integrated transport strategy. Finally, the relationship between quantified objectives, policy combinations, and assessment performances would be analyzed using the proposed model

    Get PDF
The paper aims at examining the impact of various consumer and product characteristics on adoption of e-commerce among consumers in India. The study is based on primary data collected through survey of consumers residing in and around Delhi. A structured non- disguised questionnaire has been employed for collecting the information from the respondents about their demographics, shopping orientations, security and privacy concerns, technological familiarity, past online shopping experiences and intentions to buy various types of products through internet in future. Past online shopping satisfaction, recreational shopping orientation, education and income emerge as significant factors affecting consumer past online purchases. In respect of future online shopping intentions, only three consumer-related factors viz., past online shopping satisfaction, past online shopping frequency and education, are found as significant predictors. Amongst product characteristics, product expensiveness is found to be negatively related to consumer future online purchase intentions. While consumers appear quite willing to buy services online that are high in their intangible value proposition, they appear somewhat ambivalent in their intentions to buy online the 'frequently purchased products'. Some of the consumer and product characteristics do influence consumer adoption of e-commerce. Study findings entail interesting implications for the marketers. They need to give adequate attention to consumer and product characteristics while designing their e-marketing strategies. As compared to goods, the surveyed respondents have expressed greater willingness to buy services online in future. Services thus appear to be more promising product category for sale through internet channel in future
