Antimicrobial potential of Aspergillus oryzae secondary metabolites against carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

    No full text
The antibacterial potential of Aspergillus oryzae (A. oryzae) EO product (AOEP) extract against Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) strains BAA-1706 and BAA-1705 was investigated through minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), biofilm inhibition assays, electron microscopy, and gene expression analysis. AOEP extract exhibited inhibitory activity with MIC50 values ranging from 3.1 % to 50 % for both strains. Notably, AOEP suppressed biofilm formation at low concentrations (3.1 %–12.5 %), outperforming the positive control, kanamycin, at 6.25 %. Morphological examination revealed significant alterations upon AOEP treatment, including reduced colony size and fragmented cells, distinct from kanamycin-induced changes. qRT-PCR demonstrated that AOEP significantly downregulated key virulence genes ompA, lppA, and mrkA in strain BAA-1706, and ompA and lppA in strain BAA-1705, while pal and wzi expression remained unaffected. LC-MS/MS profiling identified several lactone-related secondary metabolites, including acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) analogs and butyrolactone I analogs, suggesting possible quorum sensing interference as a mechanism of action. These findings highlight AOEP extract as a promising multifunctional antibacterial agent that disrupts K. pneumoniae growth, biofilm formation, and virulence, with potential applications in combating antibiotic-resistant infections

    Building confidence in group conversations

    No full text
Developing confidence in group discussions is essential for effective communication and improving collaborative dynamics within varied environments. Greater confidence is directly linked to enhanced participation and a greater willingness to communicate, particularly in contexts where a second language is used. In such situations, worries about language proficiency can impede engagement. The supportive nature of group environments allows individuals to express themselves freely without the fear of criticism, which not only promotes personal growth in communication abilities but also enriches the overall learning experience for the group. Therefore, educational approaches that focus on building confidence in group discussions have the potential to facilitate more productive interactions, enabling all participants to gain valuable insights from one another and develop their important interpersonal skills

Islamic psychology as a contextual and actual tafsir approach

The understanding of modern psychology that is far from Islamic teachings is an incomplete problem, even though Islamic psychology has developed long before modern psychology emerged and the cumulative efforts of Islamic Psychology are increasingly interesting and fertile to be discussed, a rich discourse that needs to be nurtured and become a challenge as well as an opportunity for Muslims and the world of Psychology today. The Qur'an as a guide for Muslims with the jargon solih li kulli Zaman wa makan becomes the starting point that the Qur'an always goes hand in hand with technology and increasingly diverse human understanding, so that contextual and actual interpretations are needed. The data collection technique of this article is in the form of library research with the method of describing each problem and then analyzing it so that a thorough understanding is obtained, so that the theory of Islamic integrated psychology becomes a complete concept and can be used in the world of modern psychology

Students proportional reasoning level in solving Ill structured problem on proportion material in terms of Gregorc’s thinking style

This study examines the level of proportional reasoning in students when solving ill-structured problems concerning proportions, in terms of Gregorc's cognitive styles. A qualitative approach was used, involving 8 participants from grade VIII-B of MTsN Kota Batu. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that students' cognitive styles affect their understanding of proportional reasoning. Students with a concrete sequential (CS) thinking style showed difficulty in understanding the concept of proportional and still relied on trial-and-error approaches, indicating they are at Level 0 (Non-proportional reasoning). Students with a abstract sequential (AS) and concrete random (CR) thinking style have used some visual or concrete aids, although they have not fully transitioned to a more systematic mathematical approach, placing them at Level 1 (Manipulative Proportional Reasoning). Meanwhile, students with an abstract random (AR) thinking style were able to use mathematical models to solve proportional problems but still faced challenges in consistently applying the correct method, leading them to Level 3 (Pre-multiplicative Proportional Reasoning). The differences in students' cognitive styles affect how they understand and apply the concept of proportional reasoning, including their ability to choose the appropriate method and maintain consistency in its application

Nationalism values in Arabic textbooks: An analysis of Indonesian Ministry of religious affairs-endorsed Arabic textbooks

Arabic textbooks function as language learning tools and vehicles for instilling nationalist values. This study uses content analysis to examine three Arabic textbooks the Ministry of Religious Affairs endorsed, focusing on representations of nationalism, symbols, and directives within Arabic and local cultural contexts. The findings reveal that the textbooks emphasize fundamental values of nationalism, including patriotism, tolerance, fraternity, and environmental care. Verbal representations highlight a love for Indonesia and religious understanding, while visual representations, such as historical structures and natural scenery, reinforce patriotism, unity, cultural appreciation, and environmental stewardship. Through Arabic language education, students are encouraged to embrace their national identity, foster cross-cultural understanding, and contribute positively to Indonesian society. This study underscores the role of Arabic textbooks in promoting nationalist values and shaping responsible citizens committed to Indonesia's progress and well-being

Analisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kepuasan peserta MTQ di kampus 3 UIN Malang

The 2025 Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) held at Campus 3 of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang highlighted the crucial interplay between judge competency, clarity of evaluation guidelines, and the application of digital scoring systems in shaping participants’ experiences. This study aimed to objectively assess how these three factors influenced participant satisfaction. A cross-sectional design was employed, involving six participants and two judges, with data collected through Likert-scale questionnaires and digital scoring records. Correlation and multiple regression analyses were used to explore relationships among variables. Findings revealed that judge competency had a significant positive effect on participant satisfaction (β = 0.45; p < 0.001), as did standardized evaluation guidelines (β = 0.38; p < 0.001). Meanwhile, digital scoring improved procedural efficiency but had no direct impact on satisfaction levels (β = 0.12; p = 0.08). The overall model accounted for 62% of the variance in satisfaction. These results suggest that enhancing judge training and unifying scoring criteria are key strategies to improve the overall participant experience in future MTQ events

Designing instructional materials for teaching vocabulary to visually impaired students using the braille method

The development of Arabic vocabulary learning materials in Braille is urgently needed to address the limited educational access for visually impaired beginner students in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). The lack of instructional resources tailored to their specific needs has impeded their ability to acquire vocabulary, a key foundation for reading skills and Arabic literacy. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE instructional design model, which includes five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Thematic vocabulary content was created based on students’ daily life contexts—such as body parts, school facilities, daily routines, and food—and formatted in Arabic Braille. The materials were supplemented with interactive exercises including letter arrangement, word matching, multiple-choice questions, and structured reading tasks. Expert validation confirmed high content and technical quality. A limited trial involving four visually impaired students at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Qur’an in Probolinggo showed marked improvements in Braille reading, vocabulary comprehension, and independent learning skills. This research contributes a practical, inclusive solution that bridges the educational gap for visually impaired students in Islamic contexts. It highlights the significance of accessible learning materials and supports the advancement of inclusive education practices in Arabic language teaching
