Education and Practice of Social Work in Healthcare Centers around 1950
This article investigates the relationship of social work in healthcare centers around 1950 with education in social work. The main duties of social workers in healthcare centers at that time were cooperation with other organizations and supply of commodities. These duties were unavoidable under the existing conditions. Social workers in the healthcare centers negatively evaluated their conditions as providing little opportunity for “personality growth”. Such “personality growth” is one of the purposes of social work emphasized in education. This social work education is likely to have led to the negative evaluation of social workers with regard to their work in the healthcare centers.departmental bulletin pape

In studies about Koreans living in Japan, the contemporary significance of the ethnic organizations was overlooked, while the previous studies mainly looked at their decline. For example, the Korean Residents Union in Japan is criticized due to its excludability of Japanese-Korean mixed people. However, considering that there are still participants today, the ethnic organizations are significant for Koreans living in Japan. Therefore, this paper clarifies the contemporary significance of ethnic organizations by examining process that Koreans living in Japan participate in them. There are three findings in this paper. First, ‘experience of hardship’ and ‘isolation’ are relevant to participation in ethnic organizations. Second, the contemporary significance of ethnic organizations is playing the role of ‘hubs’ for Koreans living in Japan. Finally, by considering ethnic organizations as hubs, we can research on reproducing of the ethnic organizations in terms of members’ living experiences.departmental bulletin pape
