Social skills training for elementary school students by using the web conference system on "silent" lunch time

    Get PDF
As opportunities for communication among children have decreased due to the coronavirus pandemic, the author, as a school counselor, has discussed the use of “silent meal” time with the school administrators at the school where I am assigned, and is implementing a simple SST course in an online format. We devised a new idea and held a total of nine SST courses. On the day of the event, the teacher in charge moderated the session, and the author provided a real-time explanation of the day’s theme based on materials. The time per session was approximately 5 to 10 minutes. At a later date, we created a new video recording the content and made it available for viewing on the school website, giving students an opportunity to reflect and watch it together with their parents. As I walked down the hallway after the lecture, many children and teachers noticed me and approached me, which seemed to give me an opportunity to become more familiar with school counselors. There was also a ripple effect of the course content on classroom activities. This is a trial-and-error approach, and future challenges include careful selection of timing, frequency, target audience, and content.departmental bulletin pape
