Research into the value of after school children’s centers for children with disabilities : A case study at a children’s center in Kumamoto City
Get PDFWe aimed to clarify the value of children's center use by children with disabilities and the acceptance level of children's centers in Kumamoto City.Our findings are as follows: Eleven of the fifteen children with disabilities in this study had attended or were currently attending a children’s center. Infants and toddlers were slightly more likely to use children’s center services than elementary school students. The frequency of use was irregular or regular but infrequent. Facility challenges include making restrooms barrier-free, eliminating steps at entrances and exits, and installing rooms for emotional cool-downs. The staff at the children’s center do not view children with disabilities as special needs children, but provide needed additional support on a case by case basis. It is believed that children with disabilities continue to use children’s centers because the staff do not unnecessarily treat them as different.departmental bulletin pape

Actual conditions of involvement with elderly people living alone as practiced by community activity participants with the intention of watching over them.
Get PDFCurrently, with an increase in the number of elderly people living alone in Japan, watchful waiting for people to come and meet them is becoming popular. This study aimed to examine the involvement of community activity participants in caring for elderly people living alone. We conducted semi-structured interviews with six individuals who regularly participate in community activities. The participants were asked about their thoughts when interacting with elderly people living alone. Data were analysed using the qualitative synthesis approach (KJ method). Results suggested that participants in community activities always had a deep-rooted 〔health craving〕 and 《worry》 about elderly people living alone. Further, as part of their community activities, they were 〔naturally checking on the safety〕 of the residents by 《interacting》 with them to avoid the feeling that they were just being watched over. They were also being 《considerate》 to 〔not overstep their privacy〕. Thus, a 《change》 in the way 〔elderly people living alone being watched over increased their awareness〕 thereby transmitting their own vitality. This led to the establishment of 《relationships》 among the participants, where 〔everyone maintained contact with each other on a daily basis〕. These findings suggest that engaging with elderly people living alone is not one of individual creative involvement but one in which the group engages with and enhances each other. Decline of Social Work at Public Health Centers
Get PDFIs it true that social work at public health centers has fallen into a decline? If this is true, when and how has this form of social work gone into a decline? We performed this study with a target period designated using administrative material to evaluate the decline of social work at public health centers by examining the numbers of social workers and total workloads. The administrative material included the number of social workers and total workload at public health centers in Tokyo and other regions in Japan from around 1950 to around 1960. During this period, the total workload at public health centers tended to decrease, with a drop in Tokyo and in other regions in Japan to about 20% of its peak. It could not be concluded that the number of social workers also declined based on the available information. Therefore, the “decline” of social work at public health centers was confirmed based only on the total workload.departmental bulletin pape

An Examination of Factors Contributing to the "Decline" of Health Center Social Work : Focus on the budget and functions of health centers

Prior studies suggest that reductions in health center budgets and misalignment of health center social work functions were factors in the "decline". However, we could not find any traces of the "decline" as a factor in the administrative data and statistics on the work of social work in health centers from the late 1940s to the 1950s. However, this paper was not able to conduct a qualitative examination of health center social work based on local government administrative budgets and case studies, which is an issue for the future.departmental bulletin pape
