This paper develops Dynamic Temporal Capability (DTC) theory, conceptualizing organizations’ capacity to intentionally design and reconfigure temporal structures. While existing research treats time as a socially constructed phenomenon, DTC theory positions temporal structures as strategically manipulable resources. We introduce the S-O-R-D model (Synchrony, Orchestration, Regulation, Divergence), extending Lawrence and Lorsch's differentiation-integration framework to temporal dimensions. Central to DTC is the concept of temporal misalignment (Δt), which generates organizational tension enabling both innovation and coordination. Clinical features of Mycobacterium abscessus complex and Mycobacterium kansasii pulmonary disease in Kyushu, Japan
Background: Nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) is a chronic respiratory infection with a growing incidence and mortality globally. Although the clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare (MAI) pulmonary disease have been extensively reported, evidence regarding non-MAI NTM-PD remains limited. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients newly diagnosed with NTM-PD between 2010 and 2017 at 18 hospitals in Kyushu, Japan. Data on baseline characteristics, causative organisms, radiological findings, treatment regimens, and clinical outcomes were collected and analysed. Results: In total, 1317 patients were enrolled. M. intracellulare (50.4 %), M. avium (40.5 %), M. abscessus complex (MABC) (2.4 %), and M. kansasii (2.4 %) were identified as the major causative organisms. Compared with patients with MAI, those with MABC exhibited a lower body mass index and a higher AFB sputum smear positivity rate. Patients with M. kansasii infection were predominantly male, frequently had underlying chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and presented with cavitary lesions. Treatment initiation rates for MABC and M. kansasii were 71.9 % and 87.5 %, respectively. The response rate to the treatment in sputum mycobacterial evaluation was comparable between the two groups. However, the re-treatment rate was higher in the MABC group (30.4 % vs. 14.3 %). The 10-year mortality rates were 25.0 % and 15.6 % for MABC and M. kansasii, respectively. Conclusions: Initial treatment responses for MABC and M. kansasii were favourable. However, long-term outcomes for MABC remained poor, potentially owing to the limited availability of effective continuation-phase therapies. Further large-scale prospective studies are warranted to understand the clinical management and prognosis of non-MAI NTM-PD.Respiratory Investigation, 64(1), art. no. 101358; 2025journal articl

The Fibered Plastic Hinge Model (FPHM) program is an analysis code for quasi-static three-dimensional (3D) elastoplastic large deflection analysis of frames that contain steel members, reinforced concrete (RC) members, steel reinforced concrete (SRC) members, concrete filled tube (CFT) members, prestressed concrete (PC) members, composite beams, tension braces, steel damper braces (buckling restrained braces) and truss members. Since its numerical procedure precisely accounts for PΔ-effects, the ultimate lateral strength of a frame can be obtained accurately.The FPHM-dynamic (FPHM-D) program is the analysis code for dynamic 3D elastoplastic large deflection analysis of frames in which the restoring force characteristics of frames are estimated by the FPHM program. Expression Analysis of Heavy-Chain-Only Antibodies in Cloudy Catshark and Japanese Bullhead Shark
Heavy chain-only antibodies in sharks are called immunoglobulin new antigen receptors (IgNAR), consisting of one variable region (VNAR) and five constant regions (C1-C5). The variable region of IgNAR can be expressed as a monomer composed of a single domain, which has antigen specificity and is thus gaining attention as a next-generation antibody drug modality. In this study, we analyzed IgNAR of the cloudy catshark and Japanese bullhead shark, small demersal sharks available in the coastal waters of Japan. By analyzing the IgNAR gene sequence and comparing it with the constant regions of five other known shark species, high homology was observed in the C4 region. Consequently, we expressed the recombinant protein of the C4 domain from the cloudy catshark in E. coli, immunized rats, and produced antibodies. The obtained antiserum and mAbs recognized the C4 recombinant protein of the cloudy catshark, but reacted minimally with the plasma of non-immunized cloudy catsharks and instead reacted with the plasma of Japanese bullhead sharks. The results of this study imply that the protein expression levels of IgNAR in cloudy catsharks may be relatively lower compared to those in Japanese bullhead sharks, however, this interpretation remains to be determined through further studies.Marine Drugs, 23(1), art. no. 28; 2025journal articl
Enhanced O2 selectivity of carbon molecular sieves by electrochemical oxidation for air separation
We propose a novel method for synthesizing carbon molecular sieves (CMS) with enhanced performance for O2 separation from air using flow-type electrochemical oxidation (F-ECO). The F-ECO process introduces oxygen-containing functional groups (OCFGs) at pore entrances of activated carbon (AC), creating an ultrathin layer that works as an energy barrier for improving O2 selectivity. The parameters for the F-ECO process were optimized using an experimental design method. The microstructure and surface species of the F-ECO-treated AC samples were characterized using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and gas adsorption measurements. The F-ECO treatment slightly reduced micropore volume but dramatically increased the O2 dynamic selection coefficient of AC, indicating improved N2/O2 separation. The optimal F-ECO conditions produced a CMS with O2 selectivity comparable to the CMS provided by conventional methods in industry, along with a faster O2 adsorption rate while minimizing the decrease in effective O2 adsorbed amount. This performance was achieved by carefully controlling the surface oxidation proposed by the experimental design method based on Bayesian optimization. Mechanisms of multidrug resistance caused by an Ipi1 mutation in the fungal pathogen Candida glabrata
Multidrug resistance in the pathogenic fungus Candida glabrata is a growing global threat. Here, we study mechanisms of multidrug resistance in this pathogen. Exposure of C. glabrata cells to micafungin (an echinocandin) leads to the isolation of a mutant exhibiting resistance to echinocandin and azole antifungals. The drug-resistant phenotype is due to a non-synonymous mutation (R70H) in gene IPI1, which is involved in pre-rRNA processing. Azole resistance in the ipi1R70H mutant depends on the Pdr1 transcription factor, which regulates the expression of multidrug transporters. The C. glabrata Ipi1 protein physically interacts with the ribosome-related chaperones Ssb and Ssz1, both of which bind to Pdr1. The Ipi1-Ssb/Ssz1 complex inhibits Pdr1-mediated gene expression and multidrug resistance in C. glabrata, in contrast to Saccharomyces cerevisiae where Ssz1 acts as a positive regulator of Pdr1. Furthermore, micafungin exposure reduces metabolic activity and cell proliferation in the ipi1R70H mutant, which may contribute to micafungin tolerance.Nature communications, 16(1), art. no. 1023; 2025journal articl
Association between anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody and insufficient sleep in euthyroid population
Background: Low sleep quality induces inflammation. Because anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO-Ab) is an autoantibody that induces inflammation in the thyroid, insufficient sleep may stimulate the production of TPO-Ab. However, the thyroid function is also associated with sleep. Therefore, to evaluate the association between TPO-Ab positivity and insufficient sleep, the target population should be limited to euthyroid individuals whose free triiodothyronine (T3), free thyroxine (T4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) are within the normal ranges. Method: This cross-sectional study recruited 1324 euthyroid individuals who participated in annual health checkups. Insufficient sleep was assessed by using a questionnaire. Individuals with free T3, free T4, and TSH levels within the normal ranges were defined as euthyroid. Results: Among the study population, 406 had insufficient sleep, and 242 were TPO-Ab-positive. Insufficient sleep was associated with a higher likelihood of TPO-Ab positivity. Sex and age adjusted odd ratios (95 % confidence intervals, p) of TPO-Ab positive for insufficient sleep was 1.47 (1.08, 2.01, p = 0.014). These associations remained unchanged even after further adjustment for free T4 and TSH, status of body mass index, smoking status, drinking status, mental distress, and physical activity; 1.53 (1.11, 2.10, p = 0.009). Conclusion: Euthyroid individuals with insufficient sleep may be at risk of autoimmune thyroiditis. Although further investigations are necessary, sleep disorder therapy might reduce the risk of the incidence of autoimmune thyroiditis.International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology, 25(2), art. no. 100565; 2025journal articl
