The objective of this paper is to illustrate how the systems of cross-border cooperation have been put in place by the relevant authorities of different jurisdictions in their fight against financial crimes, including fraud targeted at individuals, excise and tax fraud, and illicit financial flows. Due to the volume of its discussion, the entire paper is divided into the first and second halves: the first half (Part 1) mainly discusses the scope of financial crimes; and the second will focus on bilateral and multilateral frameworks for the financial regulators and other enforcement agencies to help each other by providing information.島田章准教授定年退職記念号In Honour of Associate Prof. Akira Shimada経営と経済, 105(3), pp.53-78; 2025departmental bulletin pape

Long‐term Outcomes of Intraductal Fully Covered Self‐Expandable Metal Stents for Anastomotic Biliary Strictures After Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Clinical and Economic Evaluation

    No full text
Objectives: Anastomotic biliary stricture (ABS) is a common complication following living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). Although plastic stents (PSs) have traditionally been the standard treatment, fully covered self-expandable metal stents (FCSEMSs) have recently gained attention because of their potential advantages. This study aimed to retrospectively analyze cases of ABS after LDLT that were treated with intraductal FCSEMSs (ID-FCSEMS) at our institution. Methods: This study included 46 adult patients who developed anastomotic bile duct stricture following LDLT. Twenty patients underwent ID-FCSEMS placement, and 22 patients underwent PS placement. The FCSEMSs were scheduled for removal after 16 weeks. Results: Placement of FCSEMSs was technically successful in all 20 patients. Early complications included cholangitis in five patients, whereas late complications included one case of stent migration and one case of obstructive cholangitis. Clinical success was achieved in 16 patients. Restenosis occurred in two patients. No significant differences were found between the FCSEMS group and the PS group in terms of reimbursement points (as defined by the Japanese medical fee schedule), number of hospitalizations, and total inpatient days. Conclusions: ID-FCSEMSs demonstrate a high success rate and favorable long-term outcomes for ABS after LDLT. Although no significant difference in cost reduction is observed, ID-FCSEMSs are a safe and effective therapeutic option for ABS.DEN Open, 6(1), art. no. e70264; 2025journal articl

What Are the Factors Associated with Longevity of Mandibular Advancement Oral Appliances?

    No full text
Background/Objectives: Mandibular advancement oral appliances (MAOAs) for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome treatment can be rendered more convenient by adopting a separate and movable design; however, concerns regarding possible weakening of effect have been raised. This study had the aim to clarify the factors associated with the longevity of separate and movable MAOAs. Methods: Information on 466 MAOAs from 230 patients was collected from medical records, including baseline information, apnea–hypopnea indexes, transcutaneous oxygen saturation, component connection method, and initial fabrication status (new fabrication or repair). MAOAs were evaluated in clinical practice, and breakage was considered a failure. Failures were classified into three types: Type A, breakage anywhere in MAOA; Type B, connector breakage (thermoplastic component breakage was censored); and Type C, thermoplastic component breakage (connector breakage was censored). Survival time of MAOA for all types was analyzed using a shared frailty model. Hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals were determined, with the statistical significance at p < 0.05. Results: Type A failures were significantly linked to patient sex, age, and connection method; Type B failures were associated with sex and age; and no variables were linked to Type C failures. Younger male patients showed lower survival rate except for Type C, with no correlation between apnea symptom severity and survival status. Conclusions: MAOA connector strength was significantly associated with the MAOA survival rate. Connectors were more likely to break in younger patients, and this tendency was particularly pronounced in males. Therefore, age and sex should be considered when choosing the MAOA connection method.Prosthesis, 7(6), art. no. 134; 2025journal articl

    オープンガーデンを通した高齢者のコミュニティ形成に関する研究

    Get PDF
In this paper, the purpose of this paper is to clarify the relationship between the holding of community activities called open gardens and the reduction of isolation among the elderly, using the Japan version of CCRC "Minagi no Mori" as the site of the open garden. In addition, we will identify the issues and consider the effects that the organizers feel of publishing the gardens managed by the group in the open garden pamphlet. Minagi no Mori was established as a Japanese version of CCRC, so there are many elderly residents, and a certain degree of community had been formed through club activities before the open garden was held. Through the open garden, there were cases where relationships were further deepened through talking about flowers, and many people expressed a desire for future events. The proportion of people who did not have relationships at various levels of intimacy has decreased, and the activities have been supported, expanding and deepening relationships. Therefore, we believe that open gardens are effective as one way for residents to interact with each other and prevent loneliness among the elderly. While there is room for improvement in the decrease in garden owners, incorporating gardens managed by groups has led to an increase in open garden participants and improved and revitalized local scenery. Therefore, we believe that introducing gardens managed by groups along with private gardens at open gardens will lead to revitalization of interactions within groups as well as with local residents.長崎大学大学院工学研究科研究報告, 55(104), pp.30-37; 2025departmental bulletin pape

Changes in post- and pre-capture escape ability over development in juvenile Japanese eels

    Get PDF
Predation is one of the major forces driving the evolution of defensive tactics in prey. Recently, post-capture active escape behaviors of different prey animals from the predator’s digestive tract have been reported. However, no studies have yet examined when these escape behaviors are developed through the ontogeny of the prey. This study examined the ontogenetic change in a unique defensive tactic of juvenile Japanese eels Anguilla japonica in which they escape via the predator’s gills after being captured. We used A. japonica ranging in stage from pre-settlement glass eels to post-settlement yellow eels (based on their habitat change from tidal estuaries to freshwater rivers). The results indicated that individuals in the 2 earliest stages of glass eels (stages VIA0 and VIA1) never escaped after being captured, while 28.1% of individuals after the middle glass eel stages (VIA2 and later stages) escaped via the predator’s gill. The ontogenetic timing of the development of escape ability coincides with when eels settle into benthic riverine and estuarine habitats as suggested by previous studies. Additionally, the pre-capture attack avoidance ability of Japanese eels improved rapidly with growth in the subsequent elver and yellow eel stages. These results suggest that the unique post-capture defensive tactic of eels may be particularly important during the vulnerable period around the settlement phase when they are less capable of avoiding predator attacks. Our study offers valuable insights into the behavioral ecology and conservation of anguillid eels, which have faced considerable population declines.Marine Ecology Progress Series, 752, pp.137-147; 2025journal articl

Change in Vancomycin Absorption after Intraperitoneal Injection and Correlation between Intraperitoneal Vancomycin Absorption and Peritoneal Equilibration Test Score in Mice with Peritoneal Injuries

    Get PDF
Peritonitis is a serious complication in peritoneal dialysis patients and requires antibiotic administration. Intraperitoneal vancomycin is an empiric therapy for peritonitis caused by Gram-positive cocci; however, there is no way to predict vancomycin absorption after intraperitoneal administration. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the changes in vancomycin absorption after intraperitoneal injection into mice with chlorhexidine gluconate (CG) induced peritoneal injuries. Additionally, we examined the correlation between intraperitoneal vancomycin absorption and peritoneal equilibration test (PET) score. PET score was determined using glucose concentration in the peritoneal dialysis fluid at each dwell time (Dt) and D2 (2 h of dwell time)/D0 (0 h of dwell time) glucose ratio. Vancomycin was injected into the peritoneal cavity of mice, blood was collected after 1–8 h, and peritoneal fluid was recovered. The residual ratio of intraperitoneal vancomycin was significantly decreased in the CG group at all time points compared to that in the vehicle group. CG group significantly exhibited higher serum vancomycin concentrations than the vehicle group, and the maximum serum concentration increased depending on CG concentration, with 0.05 and 0.1% CG groups showing 3.9- and 6.1-times higher vancomycin concentrations, respectively, than the vehicle group. A significant correlation was observed between the Dt/D0 glucose ratios and residual vancomycin ratios in the peritoneal fluid 2 or 6 h after intraperitoneal injection. A good correlation was observed between the D2/D0 glucose and residual vancomycin ratios 6 h after intraperitoneal vancomycin injection. Thus, PET score can predict residual intraperitoneal vancomycin, aiding in dosing decisions.Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 48(1), pp.80-85; 2025journal articl

Identification of immune complex antigens that are detected prior to early rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and increase with disease progression: Comprehensive serum immune complexome analysis to identify candidate disease biomarkers in health checkup cohort study

    No full text
Although anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide is a biomarker, its contribution to rheumatoid arthritis pathogenesis is unknown, and it has not been a therapeutic target to date. As inflammatory pathology is present from an early stage, and increased immune complexes have been suggested to contribute to pathogenesis, we investigated the presence of disease-related antigens that form immune complexes that increase in abundance with disease progression. Using immune complexome analysis, we analyzed immune complex antigen to disease progression for very-early rheumatoid arthritis (n = 52) and early rheumatoid arthritis (n = 19), in comparison with healthy controls (n = 28). Very-early rheumatoid arthritis was defined as those positive for anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody who did not fulfill the diagnostic criteria for rheumatoid arthritis. Seven antigens increased with disease progression and were detected at significantly higher abundance in early rheumatoid arthritis than in other major autoimmune diseases. Among these, three antigens have previously reported associations with rheumatoid arthritis pathogenesis.Clinical Immunology, 281, art. no. 110591; 2025journal articl

Daikenchuto improves methotrexate-induced chronic small intestinal mucositis by promoting angiogenesis

    Get PDF
Aim: Chronic small-intestinal mucositis (CIM) is a severe gastrointestinal complication that has limited treatment options. This study investigated the potential therapeutic effects of Daikenchuto (DKT), a traditional medicine, on mitigating methotrexate (MTX)-induced CIM in rats. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to four groups: control, MTX, DKT-MTX, and DKT. CIM was induced by intraperitoneal administration of MTX (10 mg/kg every 6 days), while DKT (2.7% wt/wt) was orally administered via feed. The surviving rats were euthanized on day 60. Rat intestinal epithelial cells (IEC-6) were used to examine DKT’s cytoprotective effects in vitro. Results: DKT treatment improved survival, reduced gastrointestinal symptoms, and alleviated histological damage, including villus atrophy and crypt hyperplasia. DKT restored mucosal integrity by enhancing the expression of tight junction proteins (CLDN-3) and nutrient transporters (B0,+AT, EAAT3), and by reducing oxidative stress and epithelial cell death. Furthermore, DKT promoted mucosal angiogenesis, as evidenced by increased expression of CD34, VEGFR2, and VEGFA in both tissues and cells. qRT-PCR confirmed upregulation of genes associated with angiogenesis, barrier repair, and mucosal regeneration. Conclusion: DKT exerts protective effects against MTX-induced CIM by enhancing angiogenesis, promoting epithelial regeneration, and restoring mucosal barrier function. These findings suggest DKT as a promising adjunctive therapy for managing chronic intestinal toxicity induced by chemotherapy.Frontiers in Pharmacology, 16, art. no. 1623726; 2025journal articl
