Potentialities of the greimassian narrativity
Get PDFEpicentro das reflexões da semiótica de Algirdas Julien Greimas, desde sua origem, a narratividade é investigada aqui em três direções propositivas: (i) compreender a tensividade implícita no modelo narrativo greimasiano, a partir das propostas heurísticas de Claude Zilberberg; (ii) incorporar à narratividade – concebida como antropologia do imaginário humano – o regime tímico-pulsional, defendido por Jean Petitot; (iii) sugerir a entrada da semiótica no debate sobre as “grandes narrativas da antropogênese” – narrativas científicoevolucionistas sobre a espécie humana, narrativas humanistas da “exceção humana”, narrativas fenomenológicas da “diferença antropológica” – para instruir tal debate com a proposta de um relato semiológico que ponha em evidência a presença e a ação da linguagem na antropogênese.Having been the epicenter of Algirdas Julien Greimas’ reflections on Semiotics since its origins, the narrativity is here investigated in three propositive directions: (i) To understand the implicit tensivity in the Greimasian narrative model, from Claude Zilberberg’s heuristic proposals; (ii) to incorporate into narrativity – conceived as the anthropology of human imaginary – the thymic-drive regime, as defended by Jean Petitot; (iii) to suggest the entry of semiotics point of view into the debate over the “great stories of anthropogenesis” – such as the scientific-evolutionary narratives of human species, the humanist narratives of the “human exception”, the phenomenological narrative of “anthropological difference”, among others – to instruct such debate with the proposal of a “semiological narrative” that evidences the fundamental presence and action of language in this anthropogenesis
Discourse universe of the texts of the “Realengo massacre”: broadening the notion of sociolinguistic profile in forensic settings
No full textO objetivo deste trabalho é analisar alguns textos encontrados pela polícia durante a investigação do que ficou conhecido como “Massacre de Realengo” (ocorrido no Rio de Janeiro em 2011), focalizando a recorrência semântica como “criadora” do efeito de sentido de pertencimento do enunciador a um determinado “grupo social”, que aqui denominaremos “universo discursivo”. Com isso, pretende-se discutir a ideia de “grupo social” no âmbito da sociolinguística e suas implicações para a elaboração de perfis sociolinguísticos em contextos forenses, propondo a ampliação desta noção e incluindo o exame do nível discursivo nos moldes da semiótica greimasiana no rol de possíveis procedimentos de análise, principalmente em textos curtos e em que não seja possível um estudo de variáveis linguísticas nos moldes da sociolinguística. A pergunta que se coloca é: como determinar algum grupo social em que se insere o autor dos textos sob exame, para se selecionar ou “desselecionar” suspeitos quando esses textos são em geral curtos e não apresentam variáveis linguísticas suficientes para que se estabeleçam categorias sociais com confiança? A hipótese é que a recorrência semântica aponte para algum grupo social, não necessariamente demográfico, mas uma espécie de “comunidade discursiva” ou “rede discursiva”, que compartilhe as mesmas práticas, valores, ideologias, etc., e que seja depreendida dos textos.The aim of this paper is to examine texts found by police during the investigation of what came to known as the “Realengo Massacre” (which took place in Rio de Janeiro, in 2011), focusing on semantic recurrence as the “creator” of group membership of the enunciator. Here we shall call “discourse universe” the kind of social group we refer to. We intend to discuss the idea of social groups in the realm of sociolinguistics and its implications to sociolinguistic profiling in forensic contexts. We suggest the extension of such notion by examining the discourse level as proposed by greimassian semiotics, mainly where there are short texts involved, since in those cases it is difficult to study linguistic variables following the traditional sociolinguist studies. The question the emerges is: how to select or “deselect” suspects when the texts to be analyzed are generally short and do not show enough data so that social categories can be established in a reliable way? The hypothesis is that semantic recurrence indexes a social group that is not necessarily demographic, but a sort of “discourse community” or “discourse network” that share the same practices, values and ideologies and that are revealed through the texts

Semioticamente falando, essa distinção, ainda que mínima, não deixa de ser considerável, sobretudo à luz da noção de competência – condição de possibilidade e fonte gerativa da significação. Este estudo propõe problematizar tal diferença para extrair toda a riqueza que ela contém para a teoria da significação.Même si les contenus des termes efficacité et efficience conservent une ressemblance notoire à tel point qu’on pourrait les considérer comme des synonymes, y compris parce que l’usage a privilégié l’efficacité sur l’efficience en incluant cette dernière dans le premier concept, il existe entre eux une différence. Sémiotiquement parlant, celle-ci, même minime, revêt un caractère d’importance surtout vu depuis la notion de compétence, condition de possibilité, source générative de la signification. Ce travail propose de problématiser cette différence afin d’en tirer toute la richesse qu’elle renferme pour la mettre au profit de la théorie de la signification

No full textOs fundamentos da semiótica trazidos à luz por Algirdas Julien Greimas serão cotejados com os desdobramentos da teoria postulados por Claude Zilberberg, enquanto analisamos mecanismos de construção do sujeito da enunciação, enunciador e enunciatário. Examinado como ator provido de determinado corpo, esse sujeito – que, sintático e semântico, é aspectualizado ao apresentar-se de modo sensível no interior dos enunciados – será apreendido do interior da novela gráfica (HQ). A partir daí, dois tipos de sincretismo verbovisual – por mescla e por fusão – apontarão para corpos perfectivos ou imperfectivos, na relação estabelecida entre pessoa, tempo e espaço percebidos desde as profundidades figurais.En analysant les mécanismes de construction du sujet de l’énonciation, l’énonciateur et l’énonciataire, nous confrontons les fondements de la sémiotique, formulés par Algirdas Julien Greimas, et les développements théoriques postulés par Claude Zilberberg. Examiné comme un acteur doté d’un corps déterminé, ce sujet – syntaxique et sémantique, qui est aspectualisé en se présentant dans un mode sensible au sein des énoncés – est saisi de l’intérieur du roman graphique (BD). Dès lors,deux types de syncrétisme verbo-visuel – par brassage et par fusion – pointeront vers des corps perfectifs ou imperfectifs, selon la relation qui s’instaure entre la personne, le temps et l’espace, ces trois éléments étant perçus depuis les profondeurs figurale

No full textMotivada pela convicção de que a maior homenagem que se pode fazer a Greimas é mostrar como sua proposta frutificou em termos de longevidade, vitalidade e alcance, apresento neste trabalho um breve relato do meu percurso de pesquisa, desde os primeiros contatos com a teoria semiótica até os desenvolvimentos teóricos propostos coletivamente dentro do LabS-Sedi. Dentre as questões apresentadas em linhas gerais, destacam-se: a leitura tensiva das modalidades veridictórias; algumas questões centrais do projeto sobre traduções intersemióticas e sua formulação em torno da recriação de um projeto enunciativo; um tratamento em graus da concessividade; e apontamentos para o que futuramente se desdobrará no projeto linguagens híbridas. Com o relato, espero contribuir para mostrar que a abordagem greimasiana dos fenômenos de construção de sentido renova-se no acolhimento dos novos desafios à teoria que, graças a sua coerência, mantém-se robusta e produtiva.Driven by the conviction that the greatest homage to be paid to Greimas is by showing how his project was successful in terms of its longevity, vitality, and reach, we present a brief account of my academic pathway, from the first contacts with semiotics theory up to some theoretical developments proposed collectively within LabSSeDi. Among the topics, presented in general terms, some stand out: a tensive reading of the veridctory modalities; some central issues related to the intersemiotic translation project and its formulation around the re-creation of an enunciative project; a gradual treatment of concessivity; and some appointments about what will eventually unfold in the hybrid languages project. With this report, we hope to contribute to show that the greimasian approach of the phenomena of meaning construction renews itself in its openness to new challenges to the theory that, thanks to its coherence, remains robust and productive
A noção de conteúdo e de expressão no percurso gerativo do sentido
Get PDFEste trabalho pretende propor uma discussão teórica sobre as análises do plano do conteúdo e do plano da expressão no percurso gerativo de sentido a partir dos princípios e procedimentos teórico-metodológicos propostos pela teoria da semiótica discursiva, sobretudo com os trabalhos apresentados por Lindekens, Thürlemann e Floch na perspectiva da semiótica visual ou plástica. Desde as décadas de 60 e 70, com os estudos de Lindekens, vem sendo esboçado uma metodologia de análise a partir do plano da expressão, principalmente pela busca em observar a forma e substância desse plano, tema que é retomado na década de 80 com os estudos de Thürlemann e Floch que passam a compreender o percurso gerativo de sentido por meio da correlação entre os planos da linguagem. As discussões apresentadas por esses autores apontam diferenças entre os sistemas significantes descritas no percurso gerativo de sentido; retomam os conceitos de forma e substância do conteúdo e forma e substância da expressão postulados por Hjelmslev, e motivam debates sobre a análise do plano da expressão, tema central da semiótica contemporânea.
This work intends to propound a theoretical discussion about the analysis of content plane and expression plane in the generative path of meaning assuming the theoretical methodological procedure proposed by the discursive semiotics, mainly with works presented by Lindekens, Thürlemann and Floch, on the plastic or visual semiotics perspective. Since the ‘60s or ‘70s, with Lindekens’s works, an analysis of methodology has been planned on the plane of expression, mainlyto observe the form and substance of this plane, theme that is taken up again with Thürlemann e Floch’s studies in the ‘80s, which understands the generative path of meaning through correlation between the planes of language. The discussions presented by these authors point differences between the signifier systems described in the generative path of meaning; recapitulate the concepts of form and substance of content and form and substance of expression postulated by Hjelmslev and motivate debates about the analysis of the expression plane, which is the central theme of contemporary semiotics
Semiótica discursiva e comunicação: questões sobre linguagem, texto e interação
Get PDFNo presente artigo, articulam-se os campos da semiótica discursiva e da comunicação em torno dos conceitos de linguagem, texto e interação. Para tanto, em primeiro lugar, aborda-se o papel da linguagem como principal ponto de interseção entre essas duas áreas. Posteriormente, considera-se a constituição do viés comunicacional, graças ao qual se constrói o objeto desse campo para, em seguida, localizar o papel da semiótica como dinâmica da comunicação, sob a perspectiva dessa última. Logo depois, inverte-se essa lógica e se concebe uma noção semiotizada de comunicação (como processo, práxis), segundo a qual, o texto é muito mais que um objeto de onde se depreende a significação; pelo texto, para além da significação stricto sensu, depreende-se o simulacro de todos os elementos do processo comunicativo. Finalmente, aborda-se a relação entre comunicação e semiótica a partir do conceito de interação, considerando-se a especificidade de como cada campo encara tal conceito, para, então, apresentar os quatro regimes de interação e sentido concebidos pela sociossemiótica de Eric Landowski: a programação, a manipulação, o ajustamento e o acidente, os quais constituem uma sintaxe geral da interação.This paper aims to articulate the fields of discursive semiotics (French semiotics) and communication around the concepts of language, text and interaction. For this, in the first place, it’s approached the role of the language as the central point of intersection between these two areas. Subsequently, it’s considered the constitution of the communication bias, thanks to which the object of this field is constructed, and then it’s situated the role of semiotics as a communication dynamics, under the perspective of the latter. Successively, this logic is reversed, and a semiotized notion of communication (as a process, praxis) is conceived, according to which the text is much more than an object from which the meaning is extracted; from the text, beyond the signification stricto sensu, it is elicited the simulacrum of all the elements of the communicative process. Finally, the relationship between communication and semiotics is addressed, from the concept of interaction, considering the specificity of how each field understands this concept, to then present the four regimes of meaning and interaction conceived by Eric Landowski’s sociosemiotics: programming, manipulation, adjustment, and accident, which constitute a general syntax of interaction
Hábito versus rotina: um estudo sobre os regimes de sentido no filme As horas
Get PDFUtilizamos conceitos da sociossemiótica (vertente landowskiana da semiótica discursiva francesa), sobretudo aqueles relativos ao hábito e à rotina, para analisar os regimes de sentido experienciados pelas personagens centrais do filme As horas (The Hours, 2002), dirigido por Stephen Daldry. A obra trata do entrelace das histórias de três mulheres ligadas pelo romance de Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Dalloway. A primeira vive no início do século XX, a segunda, em sua metade, e a terceira, no primeiro ano do presente século. A primeira personagem é a autora do romance mencionado, a segunda mulher está lendo esse livro em algumas cenas em que a vemos e a terceira possui diversas características em comum com a personagem principal do romance de Virginia Woolf, a ponto de ter o nome da obra como apelido, atribuído por seu ex-namorado. Buscamos explicitar a complexa construção dos efeitos de sentido a partir da interação das personagens nucleares do filme analisado e o entrelaçamento entre seus percursos. Explicitamos a articulação entre regimes de sentido e regimes de interação, privilegiando aqueles que regem o hábito e a rotina, isto é, o regime da manipulação e o regime da programação, respectivamente. Encontramos uma construção homóloga das três narrativas intercaladas no filme, sendo todas elas configuradas a partir da convivência problemática entre uma personagem que vive modalizada pelo querer e outra pelo dever, aquele regente do hábito e este da rotina.Grounded on the Landowskian socio-semiotic concepts, mainly those of habit and routine, we aim at analyzing the regimes of sense experienced by the main characters of the movie The Hours (directed by Stephen Daldry, 2002), which shows three intertwined stories: those of three women linked byVirginia Woolf’s novel, Mrs. Dalloway. The first woman lives in the beginning of the twentieth century, the second, in its half, and the third, in the first year of the twenty-first century. The first character is Mrs. Dalloway’s writer, the second appears reading this book in some scenes and the third hasmany characteristics in common with the main character of the novel – “Mrs. Dalloway” is her nickname. We seek to show the complex construction of meaning effects of nuclear characters’ interaction, as well as the intertwinement of their narrative paths. We show the existing articulation between regimes of sense and regimes of interaction, privileging those that conduct habit and routine, that is, the regime of manipulation and that of programming, respectively. A homologous construction of the three interposed narratives inthe movie was found, thus clarifying that what configures each and every one of them is the problematic conviviality between a character that is modalized by wanting-to-do/be and another by having-to-do/be, the first conducting the habit and the latter conducting the routine
O exercício do acontecimento: estetização da violência em Pulp Fiction
Get PDFCom base principalmente na teoria tensiva desenvolvida por Claude Zilberberg, este artigo tem como principal meta averiguar quais procedimentos cinematográficos são adotados no filme Pulp Fiction para modular os efeitos de sentido causados pela violência, a fim de examinar os modos como extensidade e intensidade se articulam na construção do espaço tensivo do enunciado fílmico e como isso repercute na experiência estética do enunciatário. Inicialmente, percebe-se que a violência se insere em um regime fundado na regularidade, de forma que as variações intensivas são controladas pela dimensão da extensidade, dificilmente havendo uma saturação de intensidade e, portanto, jamais sendo atribuído à violência um estatuto de acontecimento. Valendo-se, assim, de alguns mecanismos fílmicos, que pretendemos descrever, Tarantino parece investir em andamentos, tonicidades, temporalidades e espacialidades adequados para o exercício da inteligibilidade, isto é, lança mão de procedimentos que promovem mais a apreensão cognitiva das cenas de violência do que a sua experiência afetiva, o que permitiria ao enunciatário fruir a obra preponderantemente na dimensão racional. Dessa maneira, a partir de estudos semióticos bastante recentes e, a nosso ver, extremamente adequados aos nossos propósitos, intencionamos ampliar o campo de discussão acerca de um aspecto muito peculiar do trabalho de Quentin Tarantino e lançar luz sobre questões que podem – e devem – ser desenvolvidas em pesquisas futuras.Based mainly on the tensive theory developed by Claude Zilberberg, this paper aims to investigate what cinematographic procedures are adopted in Pulp Fiction to modulate the effects of sense caused by the violence, in order to examine the ways in which extensity and intensity are articulated in the construction of the tensive space of the filmic utterance and how this affects the aesthetic experience of the spectator. Initially, it is perceived that the violence is immersed in a system based on the regularity, so that intensive variations are controlled by the extensity dimension, hardly a saturation of intensity occurring and, therefore, never being attributed to the violence a status of event. Tarantino seems to invest in tempos, tonicities, temporalities and spatialities adequate for the exercise of intelligibility, that is, he uses procedures that promote more the cognitive apprehension of the violent scenes than his affective experience, which would enable the viewer to enjoy the work in the rational dimension predominantly. In this way, from very recent semiotic studies and, in our view, extremely adequate for our purposes, we intend to expand the field of discussion about a very peculiar aspect of Quentin Tarantino\u27s works and shed light on issues that can – and should – be developed in future researches
