Didactic practice and authority discourse in a supplementary educational book: the peritext as an enunciative strategy
The present paper proposes a reflection about the authority discourse established in some peritexts of a supplementary educational book, demonstrating how certain strategies are organized in the construction of the so-called didactic practice. For Genette (2009) the peritexts consist in elements found inside the confines of a book, i.e. elements inserted in its same support-object, integrating the book and taking part in its meaning. According to a stereotypical teaching perspective, it is believed that a controversial and non-contractual relationship is established in the warning and opening texts of this supplementary educational book: the one who teaches possesses the knowledge while the one who learns possesses no knowledge at all. For the analysis, the choice was a book focused on the teaching of literature, entitled O poeta que fingia, part of the collection “Meu amigo escritor”, organized by Álvaro Cardoso Gomes by Editora FDT. To carry out such a reflection, we will rely on the theoretical assumptions of discursive semiotics, as well as Gérard Genette’s (2009) concept of peritext in here articulated with Jacques Fontanille’s (2008) considerations on practices and levels of pertinence of the semiotic analysis. Finally, we will also rely on the proposal of Jean Cristtus Portela (2008) for the study of didactic practices
Passion and memory in the lyrics of the song "Detalhes"
Approaching the theoretical-methodological model left by Claude Zilberberg of the categories of the standard semiotics, we will draw attention to some passionate and recognizable nuances in the lyrics of “Detalhes” a widely diffused song among the Brazilian public composed by Roberto and Erasmo Carlos. We will also try to show how the concepts “memória-acontecimento” and “memória do acontecido”, coined by Barros (2011), can be seen as important vectors of the passion arrangements implicit in the text. We hope that the analysis undertaken will meet the main objective of this writing, that is, pay homage to the work of Claude Zilberberg
Bases of tensive thinking
The author reveals some of the decisive steps that marked the emergence of the tensive thinking into greimassian semiotics. The main subject of this narrative was the Frenchman Claude Zilberberg, who knew how to conduct the counterpoint of the semiotization founded by the Lithuanian theorist with the “temporalization” practiced by Paul Valéry, with the idea of accentuation professed by Ernst Cassirer and also with the musicalization found in Gisèle Brelet. Step by step, Zilberberg went on to a tensive grammar, in which intensity (affective force) and extension (field of comprehension of facts) are articulated, and at the same time to a grammar of expectation that responds to the coexistence of antagonistic concepts, including, of course, their own contrary concepts, such as “event” and “surprise”
Transparencies can be deceptive
A desconfiança ameaça o discurso e a ação políticos. Mistrust threatens political speech and action. However, only language, and, hence, the “appearances” can reveal the truth as we merely know the world through them. There is no other possible access to reality and truth, either social or natural, than what the natural or built world offers to the perception of our senses and on which we build its own “meaning". In the face of the persistent mistrust of outward appearances and, therefore, of language – a semiotic suspicion based on the idea which language is nothing more than a veil whose function is not to say or make the world known, and yet a filter (almost a spell) which prevents us from “feeling” the exact reality of things and to defend a political word “transparent” and “immediate” – this article proposes to analyse the enunciative conflicts of the construction of political discourse as semiotic “mediation"
Internet and new technologies as didactic-pedagogical resources: amid utilization and perplexity
This paper aims to discuss some aspects of teacher education to, subsequently, turn to the pedagogical practices carried out in the Basic Education classrooms, emphasizing the use of technological resources as a challenging way for the teacher and a more attractive one for the student. Data from the National Educational Plan and PISA, among others, show that Brazilian education has low results in national and/or international assessments, which leads to the question of the quality of the Brazilian school, a very fluid and widely discussed concept that is also discussed here. Many are the possible ways to be pointed out as alternatives for the search for solutions to the many existing problems, but the main focus will ways reverberate in the classroom and in the teacher-student relationship, nuclear in this whole process. Each and every class should be designed taking consideration the knowledge of a real student, with their geographical, social and cultural particularities and their specific interests. This real student today speaks the language of technology, and it is this language that the teacher should approach, taking the best advantage of it to attract attention, arouse interest and establish dialogue as a learning channel
Short film in action: a multimodal and discursive panel
In a contemporary hybrid (Chouliaraki, Fairclough, 1999) society, the genres are are more likely to be charged as multimodal (Kress, 2010) and present in all spheres, such as educational, media and cinematographic ones. The audiovisual film productions such as short and long films, play an important role in teaching, establishing establishes a parallel between the processes of multiliteracies, assisting in the development of skills that go beyond the verbal literacy. However, problems regarding the interpretation of these narratives in their global composition still remain, a kind of a complex of images, sounds, movements, colors, graphics, and other semiotic-discursive modes. This paper aims to analyze the short film The fantastic flying books of. Mr. Morris Lessmore in the light of the Multimodal Transcription Theory (Baldry, Thibault, 2006) in dialogue with the Critical Discourse Analysis (Fairclough, 2001), Multimodal Theory (Kress, van Leeuwen, 2006), for participants, angle, colors, distance, informative values, and Van Dijk’s Narrative Theory (1992), unveiling practices and broadening perspectives that already exist . The short film use semiotic-discursive games to structure its narrative and is linked to metaphors and intertextual practices, revealing and (de)constructing the theme of its plot, the act of reading and writing. More than merely watching it, it’s necessary to critically and reflexively unveil social and discursive practices
Semiotic considerations on the use of digital technology in classrooms
This article starts from the prescription of uses to digital technology in the classrooms that is found in Brazilian official educational documents (Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais, PCN, and Base Nacional Comum Curricular, BNCC) and aims to reflect on how semiotic concepts can help better elaborate these uses. They are problematized on the establishment of truth in discourse (Greimas, 2016) and the effects of exacerbated discours on the internet (Barros, 2011, 2016). It recurs to Hannah Arendt (2014) on her reflections on the presentation of the world to educatees, in order to allow them to establish their perception of the world, both physical and digital, from what is presented. Our objective is to point to ways of reflection for technology to be used, created and better understood, with ethics, reflection and critical thinking, as asked by the BNCC
Fragments of a political discourse. Critical interventions
This essay defends the relevance of the semiotic regards on politics, as well as the political characteristic of semiotic research. Through the development of discursive organization in contemporary politics and the idea of political discourse, the author analyzes and reflects about the themes and the passions which he identifies a specific path of semiotics to answer the questions raised by the any political fields. For this, it performs critical interventions, as a founding semiotic posture. The work also aims at dismantling naturalized myths and meanings. These semiotic gestures are a consequence of the general orientation that allows the production of discourses: a political and ethical posture that guides the semiotic processes of construction and interpretation of discursive devices
