The stylistics analysis of the poem “raqeeb se, to the rival” by Faiz Ahmed Faiz
This study examines the stylistic construction of the poem Raqeeb se “To the Rival” from "Remonstrance" [Naqsh-e-Faryaadii], in which the study unsnarled various literary devices used by Faiz that reveals the style of the poet and aids in understanding the meaning of the text. The present study is comprehensive account of the content, style and the whole language system running in the poem achieved via close reading of the text. The stylistics is done under the aspect of graphological, grammatical, syntactical, phonological patterns. The study via stylistics reveals the pathos and bleakness immersed in the overall tone of the poem. The overarching theme that pervades through the first part of the poem and culminates into second, is sense of loss and deprivation, which the poet first feels for himself and then for the less privileged underclass. Since poetry of Faiz exposes the themes of ideology and power relations, political inequality, economical monopoly, social disorder, and how these conditions are created, imposed and put forwarded by particular power groups and some organized institutions. To answer these all questions, the study looks beyond the surface level and closely probe into the situations which are nurtured and developed over a time.  
Video-based observation in master chef role-plays
The 21st century has witnessed significant changes in the context of language teaching or learning as the world is increasingly globalized and digitalized. Therefore, students in vocational colleges are demanded to learn the skills to be able to survive and succeed in today’s world as both a local and global citizen. The objective of this study was to implement the role-plays’ technique of video recording to improve the student’s speaking ability. In conducting the research, there were two components expected to be improved, namely the teaching-learning process to be conducive and the students’ speaking scores. By applying classroom action research, data were collected in two cycles of learning. The result of the speaking test revealed that the students had made some progress, which was shown by the increase of students’ average speaking scores. The improvement of the scores was also followed by the increase of students learning interest and motivation in a conducive teaching-learning atmosphere
Bali tourism advertisements: a linguistic analysis
Bali is very well known for its tourism which attracts many people all around the world with its magnificent nature and enchanting culture. Bali as the leading tourism destination in Indonesia is able to increase the welfare of its people from the tourism sector. Tourism development in Bali results in the growth of hotels, villas, and resorts in Bali. It challenges the owners of hotels or villas to promote their properties through advertisements in various media, including tourism magazines which are popular among travelers in Bali. The word choice is very crucial in the language of advertising and it becomes more effective when it fits the situational contexts. Language and contexts could not be separated in creating influential advertisement discourse. The aims of the study are: (a) to identify linguistic features used in accommodation advertisements; (b) to describe the situational contexts, and (c) to discover why these linguistic features are especially common in this situational context. The data of the study were taken from hotel, villa and resort advertisements published on tourism magazines, such as Bali and Beyond, Bali Now and Hello Bali
Developing EFL learning materials for adult learners: A Case in Indonesia
The current study aimed at developing English instructional materials for listening and speaking as additional learning sources. The research was conducted at Universitas Islam Negeri Mataram, Indonesia. The population was university students of semester three in academic year 2018/2019. There were 48 students as the respondents of 20 questionnaires. The current study followed Research and Development Procedures proposed by Borg & Gall (1979). It involves (1) a preliminary stage and collects information, (2) planning, (3) develop of product, (4) expert validation, (5) small-scale and large-scale field tried-out the students. The result of the research has shown that Indonesian students have confirmed the need for listening and speaking English materials. Since the existing materials used in learning had weaknesses, including the lack of opportunity for listening and speaking, the researchers have developed the TEFL materials to meet the standard. After being validated by the experts, and tried-out to the students, the developed TEFL materials have been able to improve students’ speaking ability
Ideology behind the war of puputan badung
This research was intended at exploring the ideology behind the war of Puputan Badung. The researchers observed, there were many questions-ideological regarding the attitude of the King and his retinue in conducting puputan. Therefore, the expression of the ideology behind Puputan Badung was very interesting to study. There were three problems are investigated, namely (1) the ideology behind the war of Puputan Badung, (2) the process of implanting the Puputan Badung ideology, (3) the Puputan Badung implementation in the current context. These issues were discussed using several theories namely, the theory of power relations and knowledge, and the theory of deconstruction. This research on its implementation used a qualitative approach. In terms of data analysis, the emphasis was not on measurement but on efforts to describe and explore the various meanings behind socio-cultural actions carried out by humans. The results study showed that the ideology behind the war of Puputan Badung namely, wirang, honor, Rana Yadnya dan Mati Tan Tumut Pejah, and conservatism. The ideology implantation was conducted through several mediums namely, puppetry, literary work, family, and government
Stylistic analysis of charles lamb’s essay dream children-reverie
The study has been designed to analyze a literary piece that is “Dream Children Reverie” written by Charles Lamb via stylistics. The stylistic study deals with linguistic, graphological, phonological, grammatical, syntactical and structural aspects of the essay. In the study, the text has been explicated via stylistics analysis of the literary devices and style in which the text has been composed of. The study excavates various literary devices from the essay like symbolism, imagery, humor, and pathos that provides ancillary support to the overall meaning and impact of the essay. The present paper is a comprehensive study of literary text via a linguistic perspective. In addition, the study is also useful to find out themes in the essay Dream Children Reverie and it ensures to depict the self-portraying nature of the composition
Lexicon in Batar text: Ecolinguistics view
This research aimed to describe the ideology and the meaning of lexicons used in the text of Batar that found in Mallaca society, East Nusa Tenggara- Indonesia. The basic theory applied in this research was an Ecolinguistics theory with three logical dimensions (ideological, biological, and sociological). In addition, the cultural-linguistic theory was also applied. The approach used in the current research was qualitative descriptive. In collecting data, fieldwork methods were used. On the other hand, methods of participatory observation, interviews, and triangulation were also applied to obtain data. The results have shown that the ideologies laid behind the lexicon were ideologies of hope for rain, the ideology of successfulness in the process of planting, and the ideology of a hope that the harvest will be abundant. The meanings behind the use of the text were stylistic meanings, affective meanings, reflexive meanings, religious meanings, social meanings, and collective meanings
Text of cigarette advertisement: A semiology study of Roland Barthes
Most of the cigarette advertisements offer various concepts such as fun, style, and self-confidence. These concepts are a series of mythic buildings articulated in advertisements to replace the appearances of messages conveyed by the tobacco products. The message content of the product visuals is replaced not just by the existence of various rules or regulations that prohibit the presence of tobacco products or smoking activities. This is performed to reinforce the impression or a particular image of the product being advertised. Advertising, in the context of this research, is seen as an arena used to resolve social contradictions, offer identity models, and celebrate the existing social order. The A-Mild advertisements shown in Mataram city will be studied using the Roland Barthes Semiology approach. Thus, the use of this approach can show the myths built through signifier and signified and how the symbol of A-Mild cigarette advertisements in Mataram study affects the readers, especially youth according to Roland Barthes semiology
Textual representation of identity in classroom discourse
This research is aimed to find out the types of identity which are reflected through the language used in classroom context in which the spoken language will be analyzed in order to find out the words or phrases or sentences that represent certain identity as well as the frequency of occurrence of each identity. The model for identity categorization on this research is based on the work of Vignoles et al., (2011) in which the identity is categorized into personal, relational, collective, and material identity. Moreover, in analyzing the language that is used to state identity, this research used the work of Bloome, et al., (2005) in which they have found that in order to imply their identities, the students used a variety of linguistic means such as conjunction structures, authoritative figures, specific lexical items including names, complementary pairs, places, and highly evaluated items. This research used descriptive-qualitative design
Multiculturalism towards religious life in tewang tampang village: moral education implementation based local wisdom
This article at examining the implementation of the multiculturalism principle in religious life at Tempang Tewang village. This principle was successfully implemented by the villagers. Inter-ethnic conflict due to the differences in understanding and articulating religious teachings in everyday life. In Indonesia, in recent decades, it is a reality that cannot be denied. The different conditions actually occurred in religious life. This article was presented based on qualitative analysis. The data were obtained through observation and interviews. The observation was conducted in a non-participatory and women’s manner was in a deep interview. The results showed that the multiculturalism maintenance in religious life was due to huma betang philosophy values included equality and togetherness (hapahari), mutual cooperation (handep), ethical life (belom bahadat), and consensus (hafakat basarah). The conclusion was local wisdom (huma betang) implemented by the villagers. It was one manifestation of the multiculturalism principle
