The existence of M?y?danawa story in Bali
No full textThe research was intended to explore the existence of M?y?danawa story in Bali. A researcher is a key instrument in qualitative research, in addition to the researcher doing more research in the field. The primary data source of this study is the speech data, the instruments used in the study include (1) recording aids in the form of a recording tape to document M?y?danawa storytelling from informants; (2) oral data notes to anticipate loss or obscurity of data from the results of the recording; (3) cameras to document religious aspects related to the M?y?danawa story, unlike, the palinggih relics in the Tirta Empul Tampaksiring temple, the M?y?danawa tunnel/cave and the ritual activities at the holy sites and other related activities. Before conducting data collection, the researcher established good relations with the local community. Data collection was obtained using the methods of participatory observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. Data collection can be done by naturalistic observation and in-depth interviews or open-ended (or ethnographic in-depth interviews)
Perception of elementary school teachers on Laro Ng Lahi in Quirino, Isabela
Get PDFThe purpose of this study is to determine the Perception of Selected Elementary School Teachers on Laro ng Lahi in Quirino, Isabela. The participants of this study were ten (10) selected Elementary School Teachers, five (5) from Generation X and five (5) from the Millenials. The researchers utilized qualitative research through face to face interviews. The responses were analyzed through descriptive coding using the thematic analysis. Based on the gathered data’s, Laro ng Lahi is still being played by pupils despite their access to advanced technologies and some of these are Tumbang Preso, Sipa, Patintero, Tagu-Taguan, Chinese Garter, Sungka, Luksong Tinik, Luksong Baka, Holen, Tug of War, Agawang Sisiw, Bum-Bum Lata, Agawan ng Panyo, Agawan ng Base, and Siyato. The importance of Laro ng Lahi can be classified according to its benefit in terms of health, culture, social aspiration, and values. Laro ng Lahi can be preserved employing continuous engagement in the respective houses and classroom integration by considering the use of native materials

Get PDFThe novel the Good Earth is one of the popular novels that tell the story about Chinese culture. Some sentences contain an adverb of manner and its translation from English into Indonesian. The text is analyzed and viewed to find the translation of the adverb of manner. The purpose of this study is to analyze the source translation and get the meaning and its sentence. As we know that an adverb is a word that changes the meaning of a verb, adjective, and a sentence. Adverbs are words like hurriedly, quickly, slowly, and instantly. It modifies a verb or verb phrase. An adverb gives information about the manner, time, place, frequency, or certainty. Adverbials are words groups in which an adverbial phrase tells us something about the verb. They could be taken in the forms of adverbs, adverb phrases, temporal noun phrases or prepositional phrases. Some classifications of adverbial are found in the novel. It is called adverbial of manner. The research aims to find out the translation of manner adverb. The theory used is Brown and Miller (1992) describing that adverb of manner indicating how the event described by the verb. 
The impact of TV content on audience’ perception of materialism

The objective of this study pertains to explore the Impact of TV content (dramas, movies, talk shows, morning shows, awards shows, political shows, comedy shows, TV ads) on the audience’s perception of materialism. The study has been conducted on the citizens of Lahore. The results show a positive relationship between television watching and perceived materialism. Heavy exposure to TV watching increases materialism and has been found to have a significant effect on viewers’ materialistic perception. The purpose of the study is to make significant contributions to the field of research
Duality in two west african literary genres: achebe’s a man of the people and soyinka’s the lion and the jewel
Get PDFLiterature is a dual discipline as it deals with human beings and their environment at monist and dualist levels. Duality in literature in this respect arouses considerable interest here. It is explored in West African writings with a particular focus on Achebe’s A Man of the People and Soyinka’s The Lion and the Jewel. Both authors’ use of duality for each is examined by attempting to measure the two literary works’ main characters and the leading themes. Achebe’s Chief Nanga and his antagonist, Odili, are compared to Soyinka’s Baroka and his rival Lakunle. Sidi the center of the conflict in Soyinka’s play is measured to Achebe’s Edna. Both writers’ works are examined under the plane of the conflict of generations. The two literary works exhibit the themes of tradition versus modernity depicted through their characters. The analysis revealed that a character in one genre may be different from or similar to another’s story character from a similar or different setting

Selling arak is a business opportunity in sidemen village
Get PDFArak Bali is a traditional Balinese alcoholic beverage that is still popular in this modern era. Balinese people are already very familiar with this type of alcoholic drink, especially those who are young or who have religious ceremonies. Arak Bali is widely produced in Sidemen village, Karangasem Regency. This study applies a descriptive qualitative research method. The data were collected through participating observation, interviews with the community in Sidemen village as well as a literature study of Arak Bali. The study found, so far Arak needs have been widespread, from the religious need to commodify into the needs of tourism, especially in bars and restaurants. The Arak cocktail has become a spirit in beverage blends, which can be found in the bars and restaurants in Bali. Therefore, this type of beverage is still an item that has high value in the economic sector as well as support for the life of farmers in Sidemen village. This condition makes farmers in the village of Sidemen to consistently produce wine and retain their legacy
When ralph ellison unmutes the silences of history in invisible man
Get PDFThis paper deals with Ellison’s ahistoriographic or counterhistory/ countermemory discourse that narrates the marginality of the African-American community. To craft his ahistoriographic discourse, Ellison uses sequels of the past, and tropes of carcerality and segregation to bring to the fore the process and politics of otherization that have set the African-American community away from linear time and progress. Ellison’s counterhistory or countermemory discourse “revises received American history by inscribing the history of Blacks in America” (252), as Greene argues. Therefore, Ellison’s ahistoriographic discourse is also a discourse of marginality that digs up the archives to rewrite the other side of suppressed and erased American history that America insulates itself within an amnesia that does not acknowledge that kind of history. As the narrator says, “only those events the recorder regards as important” (439) are archived. Ellison plays with history; he narrativizes the received American history (the official historiography), meaning that he assimilates it with mere lies or fiction

Strategies of conveying metaphors in political discourse: analysis of the Turkish translations of George Orwell's “Animal Farm”
Get PDFTranslating metaphor and metaphoric expressions is one of the disputable problems in translation studies due to the conceptual discrepancies which exist between the source culture and the target readership, moreover, if the metaphor plays a crucial role in creating an appeal to the reader as in the political text. In this respect, it is under the discussion of how to deal with a metaphor when translating political discourse, and what are the dominating strategies and traditions of translating metaphoric units in Turkish translations. Caused by the theoretical and practical urgency of the problem, this paper is aimed to analyze strategies of conveying metaphors from English to Turkish based on the novel “Animal Farm” by George Orwell and its Turkish translations by Sedat Demir and Celal Üster. To achieve the aims of the research the efforts were undertaken to compare the original text with its two different translations. For the precise analysis, Old Major’s speech was thoroughly scrutinized on the point of the metaphoric expressions in the text and their correspondences in the Turkish translations
