Representation of Bali Women in Geguritan Basur and the Basur Novel
This study aims to determine the representation of Balinese women in Geguritan Basur and Basur novel. This research employs a qualitative design to gain a deep understanding of social phenomena and human behavior through non-numerical data collection. Data were collected through a literature study, with reading, note-taking, and interview techniques. Data analysis was conducted by comprehensively describing and analyzing the data, providing an adequate understanding and explanation. The results of this study show that the representation of Balinese women in Geguritan Basur and the novel Basur creates a complex and ambivalent image. In both works, Balinese women are portrayed as not only bound to patriarchal norms but also as individuals who struggle, are intelligent, and have agency capable of handling social pressures. The findings of this study are as follows. First, in Geguritan Basur and the novel Basur, Balinese women are represented in various social roles. This representation reflects a kind of dualism regarding the position and role of Balinese women. On the one hand, Balinese women are presented as the guardians of tradition and morality. On the other hand, they are also placed in a subordinate position or as the most disadvantaged party.
Verbal affixes in the Muna Language based on morphological and semantic analysis
The study aims at describing verbal affixes in the Muna language based on morphological aspect and describing verbal affixes in the Muna language based on semantic aspect. Data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that the Muna language has several verb-forming affixes, either those whose base words are nouns, adjectives, or verbs themselves. Verb affixes in the Muna language can be prefixes, infixes, suffixes, and confixes. However, this article only discusses Muna verb prefixes and infixes. In the Muna language, verbs as a category are characterized by forms that, in the context of language use, always appear in a complex manner through the process of affixation. The affixation process is characterized by the combination of two or more morphemes in the form of affixes to the base or base. From a semantic level, Muna verbs can be identified based on their grammatical units. Among the meanings of the verb affixes are doing something as mentioned in the base word, unintentional activities, imperatives, possessiveness, mutual or reciprocal actions, calling, and actions that will be carried out. The results of this study are expected to be one of the efforts to preserve regional languages,,
Neuropedagogy in the development of skills initials of reading and writing
The research project, called "Neuropedagogy in the Development of Initial Literacy Skills," had a mixed approach (quantitative and qualitative). The objective was to determine the potential of neuropedagogy as a methodological tool for improving the development of initial literacy skills in high school children at the Matilde Hidalgo de Procel Educational Unit in the city of Santo Domingo, province of Tsáchilas. The procedural methods used were bibliographic, inductive, deductive, and descriptive. A correlational level of research was also determined, and the methodological design was quasi-experimental. The population consisted of high school teachers and students from the Educational Unit. The sample the study consisted of two groups of 10 high school students, each comprising the control and experimental groups. The information collected was based on the implementation of a pre- and post-test based on strategies related to neuropedagogy oriented to the development of initial reading and writing skills. Finally, the hypotheses posed were Ha = Strategies based on neuropedagogy develop initial reading and writing skills in high school students and Ho = Strategies based on neuropedagogy do not develop initial reading and writing skills in high school students
Anxiety Among Students in Public Speaking: Causes and Possible Remedies
Today, practical communication skills are crucial at all levels. The dynamic changes in the educational landscape have affected students' public speaking abilities, especially since classes were held online. Most public speakers are trained, but they still get nervous when speaking in front of an audience. Speakers and learners cannot convey ideas and concepts fluently when stressed.
This study looked into undergraduate public speaking anxiety, its causes, and possible interventions. The study used a quantitative research design to determine the causes of public speaking anxiety in 100 college students. The findings show that students fear public speaking due to a lack of confidence. Moreover, audience size significantly impacts students’ performance and nervousness. The results also revealed that being involved in public speaking activities will aid students to present better, and that students believe they can reduce their fear by using different strategies and reaching for professional help
A cohesion study of President Prabowo Subianto’s speech at the inauguration of the president and vice president of Indonesia 2024-2029 in the MPR building
This study aims to describe the cohesion aspect in President Prabowo Subianto’s speech during his inauguration at the MPR RI building. This study uses discourse analysis to analyze Prabowo Subianto's speech. The discourse analysis in this study focuses on lexical and grammatical cohesion analysis. The method used in data collection is the listening method. Data are analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. In this speech, two types of cohesion are found, namely lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion. Lexical cohesion consists of repetition, antonyms, and synonyms, as well as common words (saudara-saudara “brothers and sisters”). Meanwhile, grammatical cohesion consists of references, substitutions, ellipses, and conjunctions. The use of these cohesion markers provides clear meaning to the content of the speech. In addition, these cohesion markers can make it easier for listeners to listen and follow the flow of thought of the speaker, namely, President Prabowo Subianto. In-depth analysis of other discourse markers, such as coherence, is also very necessary to support this study
Argument structure and semantic role analysis of English speech act verb order
This study is qualitative descriptive research that examines the English speech act verb “order” in English. The purpose of this study is to analyse the argument structure and its role in semantics. The type of data used in this study is secondary data sourced from the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). The research instrument utilized in this study is a human instrument supported by hardware such as a computer, along with software such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, as well as note-taking tools like pen and paper. Data for this study was collected using the corpus linguistics method and observation methods with note-taking techniques. The data were analysed by using the macro role theory by van Vallin & Lapolla (1997). The study results indicate that the verb "order" can have two arguments, the actor argument and the undergoer argument, and each argument can have its semantic role. The actor argument can entail the semantic role of the agent, while the undergoer argument can entail the semantic role of the theme
Lexical and stylistic features in the written media: The case of Albania 1960-1990
This paper discusses several lexical and stylistic features that were commonly used in the Albanian press during a period of 30 years (1960-1990) as part of the national ideology and propaganda in communist Albania. This study is based on a large corpus of Albanian newspapers, magazines, and other speeches of the most notable Albanian communist leaders of the time. In recent decades there have been few linguistic studies in Albania that chose to explore the connection between language and totalitarianism. The study of totalitarian language in all its aspects gives us a lot of material to explore the effects of a certain political situation and the ideologization of public discourse on language (especially on the language of the media) and its lexical means. In this work, I focus on the identification of the predominant lexical and stylistic features and finding links between language as a tool of communication and power maintenance and totalitarianism as a political system, to show language abuse and its usage as a tool of propaganda
The quality of reading and learning in basic general education students: Case study
The investigation was related to the quality of reading and learning in basic general education students: The case study had the objective of investigating the level of reading comprehension and determining their learning difficulties in the following institutions: "Oswaldo Castro" Educational Unit, "Raymundo Aveiga" Educational Unit, "Gonzalo Abad" Educational Unit and "Cinco de Mayo" Fiscomisional Educational Unit of the city of Chone. For information purposes, the research had a quantitative approach with the purpose of generating statistics based on the results obtained during the implementation of the knowledge test for students and a survey for language and literature teachers. The results presented show the students were able to infer the content of the reading, evidence that they do not practice reading in class, at home, or in other places. That is to say, there is a real disinterest and/or lack of motivation for reading. Finally, it is presented as conclusions the heterogeneity of the strategies used in the teaching-learning process of reading is evident, where there is no unanimous criterion on the part of the teachers related to the way of teaching reading
