Data from: Determining spatio-temporal metrics that distinguish play outcomes in field hockey
Tactical behaviour in field sports can be examined using spatio-temporal metrics, that is, descriptions of player behaviour derived from data of player positions over time. Methods typically used by sports performance analysts cannot appropriately analyse the many spatio-temporal metrics and their interactions. The interactions between theses descriptions of player behaviour could potentially describe tactical differences in performance.
The aim of this thesis was to determine which spatio-temporal metrics distinguish play outcomes in field hockey. The current work uses methods inspired by genetic analysts to estimate the influence of combinations of spatio-temporal metrics on the outcome of field hockey plays.
The key finding of this thesis is that play outcomes in field hockey are distinguished by proximity to the goal and passing execution. Other contributions to knowledge are a suite of metrics combinations that distinguish play outcomes in field hockey, empirical support for some tactical preconceptions, and a novel application of genetic analytics-inspired methods to tactical sports performance analysis
Reading Digital Fiction Project Second-Person Narration Study 2 data
These data were collected January-March 2016 at Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK, as part of the Reading Digital Fiction project study on second-person narration. Sixteen people participated in the study. The significant data collection consisted of an audio-recorded structured reading of a piece of digital fiction along with a series of scales designed as a questionnaire and an associated structured interview. Screenshots from a digital fiction were used to create a structured reading set so that each participant viewed the same lexia in the same order during the study. The screenshots are based on The Princess Murderer (2003), by Deena Larsen and geniwate (available at http://www.deenalarsen.net/princess/). They were originally shown as a slideshow with sound effects to recreate the reading experience of the live web version. The transcripts are anonymized transcriptions of the structured reading session for each participant. For linguistic analysis purposes, please note that the following participants are not native speakers of English: SHUB0101 Gargi. The scales are scanned copies of Likert scales completed by hand by participants
The interaction of fatigue cracks with a residual stress field using thermoelastic stress analysis and synchrotron x-ray diffraction experiments
The related article presents an experimental study on the fatigue behaviour of cracks emanating from cold-expanded holes utilising thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) and synchrotron x-ray diffraction (SXRD) techniques with the aim of resolving the long-standing ambiguity in the literature regarding potential relaxation, or modification, of beneficial compressive residual stresses as a result of fatigue crack propagation. The crack growth rates are found to be substantially lower as the crack tip moved through the residual stress zone induced by cold expansion. The TSA results demonstrated that the crack tip plastic zones were reduced in size by the presence of the residual compressive stresses induced by cold expansion. The crack tip plastic zones were found to be insignificant in size in comparison to the residual stress zone resulting from cold expansion, which implied that they were unlikely to have had a notable impact on the surrounding residual stresses induced by cold expansion. The residual stress distributions measured along the direction of crack growth, using SXRD, showed no signs of any significant stress relaxation or redistribution, which validates the conclusions drawn from the TSA data. Fractographic analysis qualitatively confirmed the influence on crack initiation of the residual stresses induced by the cold expansion. It was found that the application of single compressive overload caused a relaxation, or reduction in the residual stresses, which has wider implications for improving the fatigue life

Advanced Nursing contribution to HIV care
The ANCHIVS study was a national project to examine the contribution of specialist nursing to the delivery of HIV services in England. It was undertaken in response to the urgent need to review the models of HIV care delivery and adapt them to address the changing health needs of those living with HIV care within the current financial constraints of the NHS.
The study was undertaken in 2014-15 with data collection taking place between April 2014 -March 2015.
This archive contains all the data for this project in the form of transcribed anonymised interviews. The data for this study are contained in three folders, each of which relates to a separate stage of the project. Documents have all been saved as rtf for archiving purposes.

Reading Digital Fiction Digital Fiction App Study
These data were collected between February 2016 and May 2017 in Sheffield, Huddersfield, and Nottingham as part of the Reading Digital Fiction. 5 reading groups (with a total of 20 participants) participated in the study. The data collection consisted of audio-recorded discussions of a piece of digital fiction which participants had experienced before the discussion. The digital fiction was an app called Karen by Blast Theory (2015). A researcher was not present at the discussion. The participants were told the researchers were interested in their responses to the general areas of: the story, the characters, their relationship to the characters, the technology on which the story was experienced, and anything else they wanted to discuss. The transcripts are anonymized transcriptions of five discussion groups

Free self-assembly of spontaneously chiral, supramolecular structures
In this thesis, Molecular Dynamics simulations are used to investigate the free selfassembly of supramolecular, chiral structures. The main coarse-grained model used for this is the disc-shaped variant of the Gay-Berne potential. This is parameterised to favour face-face configurations, consistent with chromonic molecules which tend to stack due to their π − π interactions. Additionally, assemblies formed by mixtures of these discs and a second species, modelled as Lennard-Jones spheres, are investigated. Here, hot-spot zones on the rims of the discs are used to provide strong interactions with the spheres. Simulations of disc-only systems lead to self-assembly of multi-thread, chiral fibres. Depending on the choice of particle shape and face-face interaction strength, the formed fibres are reproducibly either straight or, for reasons of packing efficiency, spontaneously chiral. As they grow radially, increasing stresses cause chiral fibres to untwist either continuously or via morphological rearrangement. It is also found that, due to the kinetics of fibre initiation, the isotropic solution has to be significantly supercooled before aggregation takes place. As a result, the thermal hysteresis of the formed fibres extends to 10-20% of their formation temperatures. The kinetic barriers to the early stages of growth are investigated by the introduction of a small permanent seed. Depending on the size of the seed, monotonic fibre growth is then observed 5-10% above the normal formation temperatures. On introducing Lennard-Jones spheres and hot-spot zones at the rims of discs, twisted bilayer ribbons, sandwiching a helicoidal sphere layer, are obtained. Systematic investigation of the effects of hot-spot size on the formation and structural properties of these twisted bilayers is then performed. This shows that lateral growth of these bilayers, and the associated increases in bend stresses, lead to the development of defect lines. For relatively small hot-spot sizes, rope structures with five helical threads of discs wrapped around a sphere core self-assemble. Where such ropes aggregate, geometrical frustration leads to multi-rope structures undergoing morphological rearrangement into double-bilayers. Extending the model by giving the discs double hot-spots leads to the formation of a multi-layer twisted bundle with three different directions of growth and three modes of twist. If the sizes of the interacting particles are changed, then, further new arrangements result. For thinner discs, a different class of bilayer is found in which the threads in the two leaflets are mutually orthogonal. This is shown to provide a new pathway for formation of tubes by a rolling-up mechanism involving intermediate saddle bilayer and half-pipe structures. The dimensions of such tubes are found to be very sensitive to the extent of the hot-spot. Double-helix structures, involving two helices of discs wrapped around a central thread of sphere, are the other major class of supramolecular assembly adopted by systems involving thinner discs. Finally, the interaction of self-assembled objects, leading to behaviours such as the formation of multi-bilayer structures, is shown to be accessed on the time- and length-scales of this class of computer simulation

These data were collected in November 2014 at Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK, as part of the Reading Digital Fiction project study on second-person narration.
