Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on Tourist Behavior: A Case Study on South Moravia
The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly influenced tourism and has led to a change inthe consumer behaviour of tourists. The purpose of the study was to find out how the profileof the visitor of the rural area had changed in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.The quantitative survey with 1026 visitors was conducted and its results were analyzed withinthree main segments of visitors - groups with children, couples and the others (withoutchildren). The results of the research confirm the persisting fact - due to the Covid-19pandemic, the demand in tourism is shifting from urban areas to rural ones, but overalltourists in research rural area can benefit from the fact that it is a relatively small area andcan get the best of both rural areas as well as of near cities in the area. Visiting rural areas isgenerally a shorter-term option for all visitors, which does not require long-term planning.The findings confirmed that rural areas are a great opportunity for domestic tourism.The results bring a deeper and actual insight into the consumer behaviour of tourists in ruralareas and at the same time the findings show the possibilities for service qualityimprovement. Both can be beneficial for service providers as well as destination managers.O
Study of the relationship of moisture and compaction on the modulus of resilience obtained by cyclic CBR testing in local soils for a quality rural tourism
Low Volume Roads are a key part of both rural and urban life and an accurate study of the parameters involved in their design is fundamental at an environmental level. In nature, due to the passing of the seasons, with changes in humidity and temperature, the density and compaction of the soil changes notably, giving rise to cracks and defects that directly affect their users and entail both economic and environmental costs in terms of vehicle efficiency and repair costs. Furthermore, this type of defect hinders the practice of outdoor activities and sports, which are essential for the development of rural tourism. For this reason, in this study, the Resilience Modulus of a nearby material has been analysed by cyclic California Bearing Ratio tests, thanks to Mendelu's specialised software, under different compaction and humidity conditions.Published Versio
Young adults fall for non-democratic ideology regardless of their education and political leaning: a data report from a Czech physiological study
The number of countries, identifying themselves as liberal democracies, have decreased recently after yielding to various forms of electoral authoritarianism due to the citizens' characteristics and political attitudes. The authors address the importance of physiology and physiological reactions within political psychology in two types of electrodiagnosis (EDX) experiments while the authors simultaneously recorded electrodermal activity (EDA), measuring the skin conductance responses (SCR), and the facial muscle activity via facial electromyography (fEMG). In line with the EEG study of Kremláček et al. (2019), the authors did not verify any liaison between political leaning and the physiological data recorded from the Czech participants. Therefore, political leaning may not necessarily represent such a strong variable, as in the West where Amodio et al. (2007) had initially conducted their pioneering experiment. Not only do the results from this physiological experiment confirm the problematic character of political leaning as a variable outside the Western countries, but they also show that education may be less explanatory as a variable in terms of getting enthusiastic about non-democratic ideologies, notwithstanding the level of pupils' self-declared approval of non-democratic ideology.O
Change of the way that landscape is used and it is effect on the recreational and tourist potential
Dirt roads and footpaths together with landscape elements form a landscape mosaic. As the density of the dirt road network increases, the fragmentation of the landscape increases. The landscape is becoming more varied and, above all, more accessible, whether for the management of agricultural land or free tourism and recreation. This article deals with the analysis of the historical development of transport infrastructure on the example of the Vilémovice u Macochy model area - part of the Moravian Karst protected area. The Moravian Karst belongs to the most important karst areas in the Czech Republic and also in central Europe. The Macocha gorge, which is frequently visited by tourists is located in the area of interest. The territory is also crossed by the Moravskoslezská svatojakubská tourist Route and Srdcem jižní Moravy cycle Route. It is a popular tourist and recreational area. The density of the road network and its quality indicate the degree of recreational and tourist development of the region. The network of dirt roads in the open countryside has undergone significant changes in the last century. Unfortunately, the roads got in the way of this trend. This resulted in an inaccessible and impenetrable landscape. Recently, this trend is reversing and new dirt roads are being designed and implemented. These are mainly implemented as part of the land consolidation process. The newly realized roads serve to make land available for land owners, for agricultural production, transport and to make the landscape more accessible. Worldwide tests of generic attractants, a promising tool for early detection of non-native cerambycid species
A large proportion of the insects which have invaded new regions and countries are emerging species, being found for the first time outside their native range. Being able to detect such species upon arrival at ports of entry before they establish in non-native countries is an urgent challenge. The deployment of traps baited with broad-spectrum semiochemical lures at ports-of-entry and other high-risk sites could be one such early detection tool. Rapid progress in the identification of semiochemicals for cerambycid beetles during the last 15 years has revealed that aggregation-sex pheromones and sex pheromones are often conserved at global levels for genera, tribes or subfamilies of the Cerambycidae. This possibly allows the development of generic attractants which attract multiple species simultaneously, especially when such pheromones are combined into blends. Here, we present the results of a worldwide field trial programme conducted during 2018-2021, using traps baited with a standardised 8-pheromone blend, usually complemented with plant volatiles. A total of 1308 traps were deployed at 302 sites covering simultaneously or sequentially 13 European countries, 10 Chinese provinces and some regions of the USA, Canada, Australia, Russia (Siberia) and the Caribbean (Martinique). We intended to test the following hypotheses: 1) if a species is regularly trapped in significant numbers by the blend on a continent, it increases the probability that it can be detected when it arrives in other countries/continents and 2) if the blend exerts an effective, generic attraction to multiple species, it is likely that previously unknown and unexpected species can be captured due to the high degree of conservation of pheromone structures within related taxa. A total of 78,321 longhorned beetles were trapped, representing 376 species from eight subfamilies, with 84 species captured in numbers greater than 50 individuals. Captures comprised 60 tribes, with 10 tribes including more than nine species trapped on different continents. Some invasive species were captured in both the native and invaded continents. This demonstrates the potential of multipheromone lures as effective tools for the detection of 'unexpected' cerambycid invaders, accidentally translocated outside their native ranges. Adding new pheromones with analogous well-conserved motifs is discussed, as well as the limitations of using such blends, especially for some cerambycid taxa which may be more attracted by the trap colour or other characteristics rather than to the chemical blend.O
A color-tunable single-benzene fluorophore-based sensor for sensitive detection of palladium in solution and living cells
Single-benzene fluorophores are bright and the smallest fluorochromes known so far. In single-benzene fluorophores, the fluorescence is mediated by the push/pull effect of substituting groups. Despite a plethora of advantageous properties, this group of molecules has not been extensively studied for design of high-performance fluorescent sensors of catalytic or enzymatic activities. Thus, herein, new fluorescent probes based on the Tsuji-Trost reaction were developed for the selective detection of palladium and other transition metals (platinum and gold) in an aqueous/organic mixed solvent with the sensitivity down to 2.5 nM (for palladium). The relative flexibility in the synthesis of these probes allows for facile color tuning of the emitted fluorescence. In this study, we have successfully utilized a yellow emission variant for sensitive detection of palladium under cell-free conditions and in living cells, validating its possible applicability for high-throughput optical sensing of catalysts for bioorthogonal chemistry under physiological conditions.OA-hybri

Impregnation of Norway spruce with low melting-point binary fatty acid as a phase-change material
Norway spruce was impregnated with a eutectic mixture of capric acid and stearic acid. The binary fatty acid was used as a bio-based phase-change material (PCM) for further applications with wood as a latent heat-storage material in building components. For this purpose, different concentrations of impregnation were evaluated. The weight-percentage gain of 124% was the highest for the pure fatty acid mixture, and the PCM-impregnated wood increased density from 470 kg/m3 (untreated wood) to 1045 kg/m3. Compressive strength and hardness were significantly elevated with higher content of fatty acids in the wood. Microscopy analysis confirmed the presence of the PCM within the wood cells. The treated wood also exhibited a larger time delay during heating and cooling due to the temperature shift in the phase transition. Depending on the concentration of the fatty acid in the wood, the latent heat during melting ranged from 50 to 125 J/g in the temperature from about 24oC to 30oC. These results suggest that the use of the capric acid and stearic acid mixture has a great potential to increase the heat-storage capacity of wood and reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling indoor spaces.OA-hybri
The method of monitoring the effectiveness of protection against grape powdery mildew by unmanned vehicles
Metodika prezentuje postupy bezpilotního monitorování vinice s cílem získat přehled o plochách s napadením padlí révy a také s účinnou ochranou proti padlí révy. Metoda je založená na hodnocení růstových poměrů vinice prostřednictvím NDVI a nalezení částí s intenzivním růstem, které mohou představovat zdroj šíření padlí révy. Prostřednictvím RGB snímků je také možné monitorovat přímo napadení padlím révy na listech.The methodology presents procedures for unmanned vineyard monitoring with the aim of obtaining an overview of areas with grape powdery mildew infestation as well as effective protection against grape powdery mildew. The method is based on evaluating the growth conditions of the vineyard through NDVI and finding parts with intensive growth that may represent the source of the spread of grape powdery mildew. Through RGB images, it is also possible to directly monitor vine powdery mildew infestation on the leaves.Published Versio
New technology for logging stumps for energy purposes
Pařezy, které zůstaly po kácení stromů, představují významný zdroj obnovitelné energie, který by mohl být využit pro palivové směsi jako udržitelné řešení. Předmětem tohoto výzkumu bylo zjistit vliv druhu stromu, velikosti průměru pařezu a podloží na dobu potřebnou pro zpracování pařezu. Hodnocené parametry zahrnovaly průměrnou dobu zpracování jednoho pařezu; dobu zpracování pařezu v závislosti na průměru pařezu; různé typy půdy a druhy stromů; a druh stromu (jehličnatý, listnatý). Výzkum probíhal na území České republiky v letech 2020/2021. Celkem bylo zpracováno 287 pařezů a 6 druhů stromů. Pařezy byly vytrhávány pomocí nového prototypu klučící hlavice, vyvinutého na Mendelově univerzitě v Brně, který byl připevněn jako adaptér na výložník rýpadla JCB JS 220 LC s pásovým podvozkem a byl ovládán dálkově z kabiny rýpadla. Výsledky výzkumu potvrdily, že doba zpracování jednoho pařezu závisí na průměru pařezu (GLM) a doba potřebná ke zpracování jednoho pařezu se na všech pokusných stanovištích zvyšovala s rostoucím průměrem pařezu. Byla navržena rovnice pro předpověď času potřebného ke zpracování jednoho pařezu.Stumps left behind after the felling of trees represent an important source of renewable energy that could be used for fuel mixtures as a sustainable solution. The subject of this research was to determine the influence of tree species, stump diameter size, and subsoil on the time required for stump processing. Evaluated parameters included the mean time for one stump's processing; the stump processing time based on the stump diameter; different soil types and tree species; and the tree species type (coniferous, broadleaved). The research was conducted in the territory of the Czech Republic in 2020/2021. There were 287 stumps and 6 tree species in total. The stumps were uprooted using a new prototype of grubbing head, developed at Mendel University in Brno, attached as an adapter on the boom of a JCB JS 220 LC excavator with a tracked undercarriage and was controlled remotely from an excavator cab. Research results confirmed that the processing time of one stump depends on the stump diameter (GLM), and the time needed for the processing of one stump increased with an increase in stump diameter in all experimental sites.
