Flowable placental connective tissue matrices for tendon repair: A review
Tendon injuries are associated with considerable pain and disability. Owing to the hypovascularity and hypocellularity of the tissue, natural tendon healing is slow and ineffective. Traditional conservative and surgical treatment options fail to address the underlying pathology. As a result, the healed tendon is mechanically incompetent and prone to degeneration and rupture. Therefore, new biological methods have been suggested to enhance tendon repair and regeneration. Flowable Placental Connective Tissue Matrices (FP-CTMs) represent a promising means to promote tendon healing. Like non-flowable placental scaffolds, FP-CTMs possess the innate healing properties of the placenta and provide structural and biochemical extracellular matrix components. Unlike their non-flowable counterparts, FP-CTMs have the added benefits of minimal invasiveness and the capacity to fill irregular spaces. FP-CTMs can enhance tendon repair by providing a three-dimensional extracellular matrix for cellular attachment and proliferation while decreasing inflammation and limiting adhesion formation. The present report reviews tendon biology, pathology, healing, and current treatment modalities, followed by a comprehensive literature review, evaluating the clinical application of FP-CTMs for tendon repair. Recent research suggests that the use of FP-CTMs in tendon repair is safe and efficacious and further indicates that FP-CTMs can modulate the tendon repair environment and improve clinical outcomes. However, the existing clinical evidence is limited to retrospective case series with no control group. Therefore, additional work must be performed to better understand the clinical applications and therapeutic benefits of FP-CTM in tendon repair compared with conventional treatments.</p
Psychological interventions in behavioral sleep medicine: An overview for clinicians and psychologists
Sleep medicine and psychology has a relatively long story to share. The multidisciplinary nature of sleep medicine requires that different specialists work together to diagnose and treat sleep disorders and improve subspecialty areas. In the last decades, various non-pharmacological therapies have been developed and demonstrated their efficacy. There are many non-pharmacological therapeutic available options for sleep disorders, including cognitive, behavioral, psycho-educational, and psychosocial interventions that could help clinicians to improve the quality of life of adult patients. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, insomnias, hypersomnias, circadian rhythm disorders, restless leg syndrome and parasomnias can be effectively taken care of, by an integrated approach with the support of sleep medicine psychologists. The paper aims to give a comprehensive view of psychological interventions for adults, in behavioral sleep medicine.</p
Assessment of Farmers’ Perceptions on Soil Erosion and Soil Conservation Techniques in Zing Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria
In Zing LGA of Taraba State, the study evaluated farmers’ perceptions of soil erosion and their soil conservation practices. To gather information for the study from the farmers and the farmland, field observation, informal interviews, and the use of research instruments including questionnaires and remotely sensed imageries were all used. These data were analyzed in a Windows and GIS context using SPSS 23. The results indicate that 68% of respondents are men, while 32% are women farmers, 71% of whom are married and 50% of them fall within the 41–50 age range. Additionally, 70% of farmers have large families with a size range of 9 to 12 individuals, and 86% of farmers are literate. High incomes are generated by the farmers. According to the study, 89.1% of farmers have farms on steep to mild slopes and do not see soil erosion as a specific issue on their property. However, because they believed that the loss of arable land was the primary consequence of soil erosion, they kept an eye out for physical indicators (such as soil color) on their farms. Geographically, soil erosion is more likely to occur in the eastern to the north-eastern portion of the Zing LGA. Terracing, shaping ridges, along contours, and mulching are soil conservation techniques that have been employed for a long time and are advised to be continue. </p
The effects of carisoprodol on endochondral ossification: A review of the literature and implications for bone health
Carisoprodol is a medication commonly prescribed for musculoskeletal pain, but recent studies have raised concerns about its potential negative effects on bone development and health, particularly in relation to endochondral ossification. Endochondral ossification is a critical process that involves the transformation of cartilage into bone, which is essential for the formation of long bones in the body. Carisoprodol has been shown to reduce the activity of osteoblasts while increasing the activity of osteoclasts, leading to an imbalance in bone formation and resorption. Studies also suggest that carisoprodol may inhibit osteoblast differentiation, decrease bone density, strength, and microarchitecture, and affect the expression of genes involved in endochondral ossification. These negative effects may be due, in part, to its inhibition of the Wnt signaling pathway. Healthcare providers should carefully consider the potential risks of carisoprodol on bone development and health when prescribing this medication. Alternative treatments may be considered for patients at high risk of bone-related complications.</p
From linear algebra to quantum information
Anticipating the realization of quantum computers, we propose the most reader-friendly exposition of quantum information and qubits theory. Although the latter lies within framework of linear algebra, it has some flavor of quantum mechanics and it would be easier to get used to special symbols and terminologies. Quantum mechanics is described in the language of functional analysis: the state space (the totality of all states) of a quantum system is a Hilbert space over the complex numbers and all mechanical quantities are taken as Hermite operators. Hence some basics of functional analysis is necessary. We make a smooth transition from linear algebra to functional analysis by comparing the elements in these theories: Hilbert space vs. finite dimensional vector space, Hermite operator vs. linear map given by a Hermite matrix. Then from Newtonian mechanics to quantum mechanics and then to the theory of qubits. We elucidate qubits theory a bit by accommodating it into linear algebra framework under these precursors.</p
Research on rolling bearing fault feature extraction based on entropy feature
In large machinery, the most common element we can use is rolling bearing. When the rolling bearing fails, it is very likely to affect the normal operation of the equipment, or even cause danger. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor and diagnose the bearing fault in advance. The most important step in fault diagnosis is feature extraction. This is the research content of this paper. In this paper, the approximate entropy, the sample entropy and the information entropy are analyzed, and the feature is extracted to diagnose the rolling bearing fault. The specific research contents are as follows: (1) Firstly, the concepts of approximate entropy, sample entropy and information entropy are introduced briefly, and the approximate entropy, sample entropy and information entropy of rolling bearing vibration signals under different fault modes are calculated. The feasibility and shortcomings of the features extracted from these three entropy in the fault characteristics of rolling bearing are analyzed. (2) In order to make up for their defects, a method of fault feature extraction based on approximate entropy, sample entropy and information entropy is proposed, and its feasibility is verified. (3) Simulation experiments are carried out to calculate the accuracy of fault feature extraction based on the joint analysis of approximate entropy, sample entropy and information entropy.</p
On the Bogolubov’s chain of kinetic equations, the invariant subspaces and the corresponding Dirac type reduction
We study a special class of dynamical systems of Boltzmann-Bogolubov and Boltzmann-Vlasov type on infinite dimensional functional manifolds modeling kinetic processes in manyparticle media. Based on geometric properties of the manyparticle phase space we succeded in dual analysing of the infinite Bogolubov hierarchy of manyparticle distribution functions and their Hamiltonian structure. Moreover, we proposed a new approach to invariant reducing the Bogolubov hierarchy on a suitably chosen correlation function constraint and deducing the related modified Boltzmann-Bogolubov kinetic equations on a finite set of multiparticle distribution functions. </p
Presenting a novel approach for designing chlorine contact reactors by combination of genetic algorithm with nonlinear condition functions, simulated annealing algorithm, pattern search algorithm and experimental efforts
Nowadays, water supplies face critical conditions in terms of quality and quantity. Furthermore, growth in population along with their needs require an increasing level of water-related resources. Consequently, the potential application of purified wastewater supplies can be considered in agriculture, industry, and irrigation of green spaces. Hence the necessity of disinfection and reduction of microbial load in the outlet sewage of water treatment plants are so clear for all designers and operators. Chlorine contact reactors are one of the major pillars of any wastewater treatment plant, whether urban or industrial. A new method is presented in this study based on the optimization of the dispersion amount in a Chlorine Contact Plug Flow Reactor (CCPFR) using single-objective Genetic Algorithm (GA) and nonlinear condition functions, Simulated Annealing Algorithm (SAA) and Pattern Search Algorithm (PSA). Then, it is attempted to assess the hydraulic behavior of the reactor and the microbial load removal performance using statistical, probabilistic and experimental practices. This research was done in a case study of Mashhad city’s wastewater treatment plant. The results of presented study illustrate that GA model has the best outcomes for designing CCPFR and the desired reactor with a depth of 2.45m, width of 1.23m, length of 24.8m, a number of 15 channels, and a retention time of 87 minutes is able to reduce a population of 300000 microorganisms (MPN/100 ml) at the entry to 274 (MPN/100 ml) at the exit. As per this method, investment cost of CCPFR is reduced around 30 percentages in comparison of traditional computation system.</p
Traumas as social interactions
We react to serious mishaps, life altering setbacks, disasters, abuse, and death by going through the phases of grieving. Traumas are the complex outcomes of psychodynamic and biochemical processes. But the particulars of traumas depend heavily on the interaction between the victim and his social milieu. It would seem that while the victim progresses from denial to helplessness, rage, depression and thence to acceptance of the traumatizing events - society demonstrates a diametrically opposed progression. This incompatibility, this mismatch of psychological phases is what leads to the formation and crystallization of trauma.</p
Modelling, Design and Validation of a Parallel Kinematic Robot for Additive Manufacture Applications
The additive manufacture is a fabrication process that has taken huge steps in the last decade, even though the first researches and prototypes are around since almost forty years ago. In this article, a design method for a Parallel Kinematics Robot for Additive Manufacturing Applications is proposed. A numerical model is obtained from the kinematics of the robot for which the design, construction and assembly are planned using recycled materials and equipment. The control of the robot is done using open source software, allowing the planning of trajectories in the Cartesian space on a maximum designed cylindrical workspace of 300mm in diameter by 300mm high. At the end of the work the robot was identified, the kinematic model was validated and considerations for future works were given.</p
