Nucleo CMP Forte™ for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome
Introduction: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common and best well-known cause of peripheral nerve compression. To date, none of the studies have determined the optimal combination of pyrimidine nucleotides and electrical stimulation (ES) in CTS patients. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel product containing uridine and cytidine monophosphate (Nucleo CMP Forte™) in combination with ES for the treatment of CTS.Methods: This open-label, randomized, controlled study involved 60 patients with CTS at the Azerbaijan Medical University (Baku, Azerbaijan) and Research Institute of Medical Rehabilitation between 2017 and 2021 years. Patients were randomized to receive the exploratory treatment (Nucleo CMP Forte™ and ES) or single ES treatment for ten days. The combination treatment included two stages: Nucleo CMP Forte™ and ES for ten days (stage one), and Nucleo CMP Forte™ as monotherapy (stage two) for ten days. Results: In the exploratory group, the complete restoration of pain sensitivity was achieved by 17.1% of patients and the narrowing of the existing zone of hypesthesia by 74.3%. Positive Tinel test was revealed in 52.4% of patients after the first and 76.2% after the second stage in the exploratory group, versus 43.8% in the control group. Mean values in the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire significantly decreased in both groups. Conclusion: Nucleo CMP Forte™ in combination with ES contributes to a more pronounced regression of patients' complaints, clinical manifestations, severity, and neurophysiological indicators in mild-to-moderate CTS.</p
A new method for rapid screening of seed vigority of cereals
Seed deterioration is one of the major problems in agricultural production in arid and semi-arid regions. Seed deterioration reduces seed vigor and seedling establishment in the field. To introduce methods with sufficient sensitivity to more accurately determine the degree of grain deterioration, various methods have been developed under the conventional name of "vigor tests". This study aims to provide a rapid method for assessing seed vigor using the electrical conductivity test. The germination test and emergence test were performed in a completely randomized design with three replications. Treatments included the Tritipyrom line at 13 levels and seed deterioration at two levels. Germination percentage, emergence percentage, and electrical conductivity were significantly affected by seed deterioration. The highest electrical conductivity and the lowest electrical conductivity were respectively related to the lines of (Ka/b)(cr/b)F2 and (St/b)(Cr/b)F4. Although the lines are not significantly different in terms of germination and emergence percentage. Electrolyte leakage in aged seeds increased sharply in the first hours and then had a diminishing, after which it stopped and followed the logarithmic model, But the lines were different in terms of the slope of the first part of the graph (which was exponential).with its help, we can classify the lines or variety in terms of the amount of cell leakage, which indicates the amount of cell permeability. The highest (37.03) and lowest (29.01) slopes in the exponential part of the graph were related to the numbers (Ka/b)(cr/b)F2 and(St/b)(Cr/b)F4 line respectively. Therefore, by using a simple and quick four-hour electrical conductivity test, cultivars can be classified in terms of storage potential and early vigor.</p
Non-Surgical management with Intra-Arterial Concurrent Chemo Radio Therapy (IACCRT) can be a definitive organ preservation treatment for buccal cancer patient
Conventional Head and Neck cancer treatment with primary surgical intervention is a relatively suffering manipulation because of causing severe facial deformity, and mastication malfunction, and resulted in a very poor quality of life for the patients afterward. And post-operation adjuvant therapy with combined modality treatment with Concurrent Chemo-Radio Therapy (CCRT) has been recommended approach for H&N cancer for decades too. But it is also relatively more toxic to the patient, and further severely disrupts patients’ quality of life due to systemic side-effects caused by intravenous cytotoxic drug delivery. Intra-arterial infusion chemotherapy is another option for CCRT because of not only a better tumor response documented, and also bonus a better quality of life improvement. The demonstrated H&N cancer patient approaching with Intra-Arterial Concurrent Chemo-Radio Therapy (IACCRT) showed a very satisfactory curative outcome. Besides the much better quality of life for the patient was conserved, it also bonuses to restore the patient’s dignity of life when compared to the conventional suffering surgical intervention. Such highly humanize IACCRT treatment modality for H&N cancer patients should be recommended and encouraged in clinical practice. </p
Xiphopagic conjoined twins: A case report with pre and postnatal imaging
Siamese or conjoined twins represent a rare but specific malformation occurring in monozygotic and mono-amniotic twin pregnancies. We report a case of xiphopagic conjoined twins and compare the contribution and correlation between ante- and post-mortem imaging for the detailed evaluation of the malformation. Our case highlights the importance of postnatal imaging to better understand this complex type of fetal malformation. </p
Human papillomavirus: What we know and what we doing?
Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the thoughts and attitudes of young adults about HPV and HPV vaccines. Methods: This study was planned as a cross-sectional study to determine the knowledge levels and attitudes of young people living in a settlement in the middle of Turkey about the HPV vaccine. The research was conducted with 870 young adults between 1-30 November 2022.Results: The average age of the young people participating in the study was 20.49 ± 2.15 years, 60.9% of them were male. 61% have not heard of the PAP-Smear test before, 51.3% do not know what HPV is, only 17.7% have HPV by vaccination, 8% have HPV vaccine, 24.75% 37.9% of them stated that they wanted to have the HPV vaccine and that the HPV vaccine should be free of charge. Conclusion: It was determined that the knowledge level of young adults about HPV and HPV vaccine, in general, was very low, only one out of four people wanted to be vaccinated against HPV, and the rate of vaccination was very low. Even if the vaccine is free in our country, it is thought that the vaccination rates will be low.</p
Case report of optimizer implantation to modulate cardiac contractility in patients with chronic heart failure and atrial fibrillation
A cardiac contractility modulation device is a new treatment used in patients with heart failure. CCM therapy is associated with an increase in physical activity tolerance, improved quality of life, reduced hospitalizations due to heart failure, and reverse remodeling of the left ventricle in patients with systolic heart failure. In this case, the clinical benefit of cardiac contractility modulation in a patient with chronic heart failure, atrial fibrillation and postinfarction left ventricle aneurysm was reported. Development of postinfarction left ventricle aneurysm in patients with reduced ejection fraction is associated with a high risk of surgical complications. However, an adequate assessment of the functional reserve of the left ventricle myocardium and the choice of surgical correction method allows for receiving favorable outcomes of surgery. We present a case of a successful combination of interventional and surgical treatment of a patient with heart failure and post-infarction left ventricular aneurysm.</p
Biological toxicity evaluation of traditional medicine white tea extract liquid
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and toxicity of intravenous use of White Tea Extract Liquid (WT) in rabbits through routine blood tests and biochemical and histopathological means. Design and methods: This study used the WT product produced by the company and the New Zealand rabbits at 2.0~2.5 kg of weight. Rabbits were divided into two groups: Control and WT groups. In the WT group, the diluted WT injection volume needed to be injected was calculated according to their body weight on days 1, 4, 7 and 11...... for 4 weeks respectively. During the1, 2 and 4 weeks of the experiment, blood routine, blood biochemistry and the histopathological sections of the heart, spleen, lung, trachea, kidney, bladder, uterus, testicle, stomach, liver, small intestine, big intestine were evaluated in the study. Findings: By comparison, the blood routine test did not deviate from the normal ranges provided by the diagnostic laboratory. The blood biochemical indexes of all experimental rabbits are within a reasonable range and did not detect clinically significant abnormalities between treatment and control groups. The WT had no obvious inflammatory change in the whole tissue and no harmful effect on the organs of various systems of the rabbits’ system for 4 weeks. Conclusions: After intravenous injection for 4 weeks in rabbits, white tea herb atomization liquid did not produce obvious toxic effects on the animals.</p
The possible clinical correlation between preterm neurodevelopment and alterations in gut eubiosis
In the literature, the topic of neurocognitive development of preterm infants is of current interest. For more than a century, efforts have been made to study and demonstrate what factors may facilitate or interfere with normal neurodevelopment in preterm infants. Recently, attention seems to have focused on the role of gut microbiota. Several studies have shown that the cognitive performance of infants born preterm is lower in general and specific skills; behavior is also reduced in the first year of life; and, by school age, the cognitive development of infants born preterm is lower than that of full-term infants (these deficits are evident in the areas of learning, reading, writing, and mathematical skills, fine motor skills, communication, memory, and attention); however, there is currently no scientific evidence to confirm the existence of premature alterations in the gut microbiota concerning these morbid conditions, although there is evidence for the existence of the gut-brain axis and adverse outcomes on neurobiological function following physical afflictions, such as sepsis, necrotizing enterocolitis and other diseases. Supplementation of prebiotics and probiotics does not appear to correlate with improvement or worsening of future neurobiological and cognitive status, except in the ability to positively influence pathological conditions that indirectly may interfere with healthy neurodevelopmental outcomes of the premature infant.</p
Model analysis of electroflotation water treatment of wastewater containing microplastics
The paper presents a model of the microplastic electroflotation process and considers the factors affecting the efficiency of this process during wastewater treatment. The results obtained will help optimize the microplastic electroflotation process and develop more effective ways to remove plastic particles from the treated water, as well as help in the development of new types of flotation technology that allow several purification processes to be carried out simultaneously in one device. These devices can prevent the destruction of the formed flotation complexes, compared with the use of a traditional cleaning scheme with several autonomous devices installed in series. The results obtained provide a rationale for choosing the most efficient electroflotation apparatus for wastewater treatment from microplastics.</p
Assessment on liver function biomarkers in HIV positive pregnant and Non-pregnant women on Antiretroviral therapy in Rivers State, Nigeria
Background: The use of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) has greatly improved the health and lifespan of people living with HIV, however, hepatic dysfunction has been associated with HIV. This study investigated the liver function biomarkers of women living with HIV and who are on ART. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on HIV-positive pregnant women and HIV-positive non-pregnant women in Rivers State, Nigeria. A total of 330 women between 15-60 years participated in this study. HIV-negative pregnant and non-pregnant women served as a control to the test subjects. Sociodemographic data were collected using a well-structured questionnaire. Blood samples were collected for biochemical assay of the liver function biomarkers. The subjects were on Tenofovir-Lamivudine-Efavirenz (TLE) antiretroviral therapy. Data were analyzed statistically on IBM SPSS Version 25 using student’s t - test, ANOVA and compared using the Post hoc test. Results: The results obtained showed a significant increase at p ≤ 0.05 in the ALP, ALT and AST levels of both HIV-positive pregnant and non-pregnant women when compared to the control group. The serum TP level of HIV-positive pregnant women decreased in comparison to the control group. However, the decrease was not statistically significant at p ≤ 0.05. A statistically significant increase in the total protein level was observed in the HIV-positive non-pregnant women when compared to the control group. The albumin level in HIV-positive pregnant women had a statistically insignificant increase in comparison to the control group. HIV-positive non-pregnant women had a decreased level of Albumin at p ≤ 0.05 in comparison to the control group. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that the HIV-positive pregnant and non-pregnant women on ART are prone to adverse alterations in their liver function biomarkers in comparison to the control groups, hence they are vulnerable to liver dysfunction. Thus proper care and regular investigations should be carried out on HIV-positive women on ART.</p
