    Fractal space-time and variations of the hubble constant

    Spatial variations of the Hubble constant are considered according to Riess, et al. (2018). It is noted that the values of the Hubble constant form an almost fractal manifold. This fact suggests that the variations may be associated with local gravitational perturbations in the neighborhoods of galaxies, in which there are Cepheids and supernovae selected for measurement. The aim and purpose of the study is to show that the spatial variations of the Hubble constant may be due to the fact that the galaxies belong to outskirts of the Local Supercluster.</p

    J/Ψ (1S) and Ψ (2S) Production in p-p Collisions at E=5.44 TeV

    I estimate the differential rapidity cross sections for J/Ψ and Ψ (2S) via pp (proton-proton) collisions at E=510 GeV. The J/Ψ&nbsp; is a standard charm quark and anti-charm quark, c and&nbsp; while Ψ (2S) is a mixed hybrid c meson. For the Ψ (2S) I use the mixed heavy quark hybrid theory, with states approximately 50% standard and 50% hybrid charmonium.&nbsp;</p

    Polyamine catabolism via spermine oxidase in the pathogenesis and treatment of hyperglycemia and diabetes mellitus-A short discussion

    Diabetes mellitus can be described as chronic, endocrine dysfunction of pathophysiological regulation related to glucose and insulin. Hyperglycemia is the most common and intensely related complication of this dysfunction and has countless methods of pathogenicity. Hyperglycemia has the ability to exacerbate a degenerative positive feedback loop within critical tissues. Considering the fact that pancreatic hormonal regulation has played an increasingly considerable role in serum glucose homeostasis, here we begin a discussion into the implication of polyamine catabolism as a pathway with a mechanism that would contribute considerably to the necrosis and dysfunction of islet cells in the pancreas. The pathogenicity of this mechanism focuses on how the sustained increase in free radical production by hyperglycemic induction extenuates several complications in diabetes mellitus. The oxidation of spermine to spermidine produces hydrogen peroxide, as well as 3-aminopropanol (which spontaneously converts to acrolein) and spermidine (the precursor for the substrate of this reaction). This increase in reactive oxygen species exhibits the ability to inhibit autophagy and apoptosis as well as stimulate fat necrosis within the cells of the pancreas. Considering the islet cells of the pancreas play an extremely important role in glucose homeostasis, small changes in concentrations of these ROS are able to eliminate large regulatory factors while going undetected in the analysis of disease processes and therapeutics.&nbsp;</p

    Psychopathological investigation of the personality of “psychic mediums”: Clinical evidence

    Background: In popular culture, the medium is a subject of seemingly controversial psychic abilities, as he or she seems to be able to communicate telepathically and physically with the various spirit entities present on the astral plane, i.e., a plane parallel to the physical one that can interact with it. In the literature, such assumptions rise to mere speculation, the result of superstition and personal beliefs, using the abilities of mental manipulation; however, some research has challenged these beliefs.Objectives: To demonstrate whether the personality profile of the psychic mediums analyzed exhibits pathological personality traits and whether such is sufficient to confirm a clinical diagnosis.Materials and methods: Clinical interview, based on narrative-anamnestic and documentary evidence, and battery of psychometric tests.&nbsp;Results: The totality of the clinical group (CG) is found to be pathological, with at least 5 dysfunctional traits, and a corollary of secondary traits reinforcing the primary condition; the pathological differential from the control group (Cg) is +70.7%. At the individual sexual matrix questionnaires, just over 1/4 of the CG show a dysfunctional tendency to sexual behavior with a differential from the Cg of +42.8%. Slightly more than one-fifth of the CG also exhibit affective dependence, with a pathological differential with the Cg of +17%, while the CG sample concerning ego defense mechanisms exhibits the pathological totality of the sample, with a differential for the Cg of +45.7%.Conclusion: This research confirms the psychopathological nature of the personality profiles of mediums, with a higher prevalence of delusional, dissociative, and narcissistic disorders of the overt type, although these results do not prove the fraudulent nature of the mediumistic activity boasted by the subjects, and therefore what has been obtained should be read more generally, subjecting psychic mediums (in mediumistic activity) to technical instrumentation (electroencephalogram, functional magnetic resonance imaging and signal potential and audio-video) in the future to verify the outcomes.</p

    Spondyloepipheseal dysplasia tarda

    Skeletal disorders are common entities that we encounter in our daily practice. Their early diagnosis is key to proper management and genetic counselling. Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia is one such disorder. It is a genetic bone deformity that affects the spine, proximal epiphysis and pelvis. The disease is either manifested at birth or during adolescence therefore given the terms SED congenita or SED tarda. Patients with SED present with variable features including short height, short neck, club foot, cleft palate, kyphoscoliosis or lordotic abnormalities. We also present a case of an 11-year-old boy who presented to us with complaints of stunted growth and abnormal posture and underwent radiological imaging.</p

    Somatic embryogenesis induction of Syzygium cumini

    Somatic embryogenesis serves as an effective alternative system for in vitro cultivation of endangered plants (Syzygium cumini), as it allows for the propagation of plants under a controlled environment. So produce hundreds of embryos that can be used as artificial seeds. Somatic embryos of Syzygium cumini, family Myrtaceae, were induced from the calli of a sterile leaf explant in Murashige and Skoog's medium with 6 ppm 2,4-D. After the transfer of the developed calli into liquid media supplemented with the same concentration of growth regulator, all three embryonic stages (globular, heart and torpedo) were observed after 6 weeks. Liquid media with growth regulators appeared to enhance the development to torpedo-stage embryos, especially at six weeks of age cultures. 12 weeks after the transfer of the callus into liquid media, flasks containing predominantly one microscopic stage were pooled and plated on fresh solid media lacking a growth regulator, where the embryogenic calli germinated showing shoots and aerial parts. Embryogenesis production protocol is considered a good tool to save plants from extinction, especially in Syzygium cumini which is a very important anti-diabetic drug.</p

    Comparison of the performances between the gray and non-gray media approaches of thermal transport in silicon-tin

    We have compared the performances of the gray and non–gray media approaches of thermal transport in Silicon – Tin using Monte Carlo Simulation. The Boltzmann Transport Equation (BTE) for phonons was used to describe the heat flow and ballistic conduction in semiconducting alloy systems. In this work, we have attempted solving the BTE using Monte Carlo (MC) simulation Computational domains for both gray and non-gray media approaches are modeled and the geometry and dimensions of unit cell and sub-cells in the domain are determined. In addition, the computational performances of the gray and non-gray media approaches are compared. The results revealed that when compared to non- gray approach, the gray media approach has more errors in the sub-cells. The maximum relative error is about 3.5%. The results also show that the non–gray media approach of thermal transport in Silicon – Tin exhibited numerical predictions with a very close match to experimental data.</p

    A census and inventory of wild animals

    The destruction of habitats in ecosystems, the rapid growth of the human population, and climate change have led to a decline in wildlife populations worldwide. It is therefore important to carry out a census and inventory of wild animal species, to determine their size, distribution, and status, especially in the context of accounting for forestry resources. Highlights are also given to the differences between a census and an inventory and how they are carried out. Such as censuses and inventories, how they help in monitoring and understanding animal populations, habitat changes, and developing conservation strategies, and how these approaches can be used to calculate the economic value of forests. This article concludes by discussing the impact of censuses and inventories on sustainable forest management and improving forest accounting by providing more accurate data. However, in carrying out the census and inventory of wild animals there are still obstacles such as limited funds, human resources, and adequate technology. So it is suggested that the need for support from the government, organizations and the community to increase the availability of resources needed to carry out censuses and inventories of wild animals.</p

    Growth and Yield Performance of Fluted Pumpkin (Telferia Occidentalis Hook F.) to Wood Shaving Biochar and Poultry Manure in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria

    In many tropical cropping systems, low soil fertility is a significant factor that hinders the development of vegetable crops. In order to get a good yield, it is necessary to increase the soil’s nutrient status to satisfy the crop’s needs, hence maintaining the soil’s fertility status. To determine the effects of Wood Shavings Biochar (WSB) and Poultry Manure (PM) on the performance of fluted pumpkin (Telferia occidentalis), this study was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farms, Department of Crop Production and Horticulture, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria. Five (5) treatments—7.5 t/ha WSB, 7.5 t/ha PM, 2.5 t/ha WSB + 5 t/ha PM, 5 t/ha WSB + 2.5 t/ha PM, and control—were administered to the plots two weeks prior to planting. The experiment was set up using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). Vine length, leaf count, vine girth, and leaf yield per plot were among the data obtained. They were statistically examined using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used to compare the means of the treatments at a 5% level of probability. The results revealed that the optimum performance was provided by 2.5 t/ha WSB + 5 t/ha PM and 7. 5 t/ha PM, followed by 5 t/ha WSB + 2.5 t/ha PM and 7.5 t/ha WSB in terms of enhancing the soil nutrients, which in turn improved growth and yield. The fluted pumpkin planted in control gave the worst performances. The plots receiving 7.5 t/ha of WSB significantly reduced the soil acidity and increased soil’s concentration of Ca, K, and Mg respectively. While, 5 t/ha WSB + 2.5 t/ha PM significantly increased total N concentration, available P and organic matter. The study clearly showed that T. occidentalis leaves yield increased as a result of the addition of WSB and PM, hence WSB had the potential to increase the efficiency of nutrient utilization in the PM. For sustainable fluted pumpkin cultivation in the study area, utilization of 2.5 t/ha WSB + 5 t/ha PM and 7. 5 t/ha PM is therefore recommended.</p
