From BSA to CPA: Accounting the Journey Towards Becoming Certified Public Accountants in the City of Koronadal
This study aimed to describe the experiences and perceptions of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) regarding their Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) course, their careers as CPAs, and their sources of motivation. A total of five (5) CPAs residing in the City of Koronadal were interviewed using a Descriptive Qualitative Design. The participants were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data collection involved researcher-made, open-ended interview guide questionnaires, and interviews were conducted online via Google Forms. Thematic analysis, following Braun and Clarke’s (2006) approach, was used to analyze their responses. The results revealed that participants during their time as accountancy students perceived the said profession as prestigious and financially rewarding. However, they faced significant challenges, including the mental demands of coursework, social isolation due to academic pressures, and financial constraints that affect their studies. When they became CPAs, their motivations shifted as they now balance extrinsic factors such as financial stability and family support with intrinsic motivations like personal growth and career fulfillment. Despite this, they continue to encounter stress, time management difficulties, and the pressure of continuous learning to stay competitive in the field. This study unfolded that while the accounting profession is challenging, motivation helps students and CPAs overcome obstacles and find success. Aspiring CPAs should develop strong financial expertise and perseverance. Likewise, CPAs must pursue continuous learning and mentorship, educators and policymakers should enhance practical training and support systems, and future researchers are encouraged to expand their sample sizes for deeper analysis
Digitalizing Government Services Through the Paspas Permit Implementation Towards A Citizen-Centered Public Service Operation in Valenzuela City
The increasing digitalization of public services has driven govern-ments to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) into governance. In the Philippines, despite efforts to enhance e- gov-ernance, bureaucratic inefficiencies continue to hinder progress. The Paspas Permit system launched in Valenzuela City in 2019, aims to streamline business permit transactions, reducing processing time and promoting transparency. This study evaluates the implementa-tion, performance, and user adoption of the system, employing a mixed-method research design that combines quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Findings indicate that while Paspas Permit improves efficiency, adoption remains low due to digital literacy gaps, system complexity, and lack of awareness. While many users appreci-ate its convenience, some prefer traditional methods, citing trust and usability concerns. The study underscores the need for enhanced user engagement, continuous system improvements, and targeted promo-tion strategies to increase adoption and retention. Insights from this research contribute to e-governance policy discussions and provide recommendations for optimizing digital service delivery in local gov-ernment units

Multi-Objective Taguchi Optimization of Electrospinning Parameters for the Development of Poly-(vinyl alcohol)/Waste Wooden Utensil Nanocellulose/Phycocyanin Electrospun Fibers
The lack of widespread commercial repurposing and recycling of waste wooden utensils contribute to pollution and toxic waste in the environment. This study aims to develop a sustainable method of repurposing waste wooden utensils into mechanically-robust electrospun fibers. Waste wooden utensil nanocellulose (WUNC) was produced using delignification, bleaching, and hydrolysis. Polymer mixtures consisting of 10% poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA), WUNC, and the pigment-protein complex phycocyanin (PC) were prepared for electrospinning following the Taguchi robust optimization design. Three parameters, namely WUNC addition (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 g./100 g), PC addition (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 g./100 g), and electrospinning voltage (25, 27.5, 30 kV), were varied to optimize loading capacity and tensile strength. Results showed WUNC addition of 0.2 g./100 g., PC addition of 0.3 g./100 g., and voltage of 25 kV optimal for loading capacity, with PC addition having the highest contribution at 44.54%. WUNC addition of 0.3 g./100 g., PC addition of 0.1 g./100 g., and voltage of 30 kV optimized tensile strength, with WUNC addition having the highest contribution at 57.99%. Produced WUNC resulted in a nanocellulose yield of approximately 16.81% with FTIR spectra revealing the removal of lignin and hemicellulose and increase of cellulose crystallinity. FTIR spectra for the electrospun fibers indicate successful integration of all components in the electrospun fibers. SEM analyses confirmed the creation of electrospun fibers within the nanosize range. Results confirmed the viability to extract nanocellulose and synthesize fibers from waste wooden utensils for enhancement of electrospun mats quality for biomedical applications, and offer new knowledge on wood-based nanomaterials
Prevalence of Parasitic Contamination in Lettuce Vegetables Sold in Public Markets in Davao City
This study aims to assess parasitic contamination in lettuce (Lactuca sativa) from selected public markets in Davao City, Philippines. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, a total of 60 samples were collected from Agdao, Bankerohan, and Toril Public Markets. Each sample was placed in sterile plastic bags and sent to the University of Mindanao Medical Technology Laboratory for examination. Using the method of Hoffman, Pons, and Janer, the samples were washed with saline, filtered, and examined using direct wet mount technique after overnight sedimentation. Four samples were positive for parasites, corresponding to a total prevalence of 6.67 percent. The parasites identified were Strongyloides stercoralis, Balantidium spp., filariform larva, and a trematode egg. It was also found that there is no significant difference in parasitic contamination among the three public markets. The presence of parasites in commonly consumed raw vegetables like lettuce poses a significant threat to consumer safety. Hence, the researchers recommend that local health agencies in the community strengthen educational initiatives targeting vendors, food handlers, consumers, and the general public on proper vegetable handling and safe preparation practices. It is recommended that further research be conducted on effective methods for washing lettuce and other vegetables before consumption to safeguard the public from possible parasitic infections and outbreaks in the future
