    Association between Lifestyle Factors and Body Mass Index among Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science Students at the University of Mindanao, Philippines: A Cross-Sectional Study

    This study investigates the factors influencing the Body Mass Index (BMI) status of Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science students at the University of Mindanao, Davao City, Philippines. Using a quantitative and descriptive design approach, 185 respondents were sampled using stratified and convenience sampling methods. The analysis included Frequency, Mean, Standard Deviation, and Ordinal Logistic Regression to assess diet, exercise, and pressure status as regressors of BMI. Findings reveal that respondents\u27 age ranges from 17 to 24 years, with a mean BMI of 20.55, indicating normal weight status. First-year students predominantly participated, with more females than males. Most regularly consume breakfast, spend 6 to 10 minutes on meals, and engage in exercise sessions of less than 30 minutes, predominantly 1 to 3 times a week. Further, most respondents use mobile devices for 4 to 6 hours, and most prefer bedtimes from before 11:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. The final model highlights mealtime spent, exercise duration, and bedtime as significant regressors for BMI, emphasizing their association with lifestyle factors. These findings underscore the importance of academic institutions offering Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science courses to address obesity factors. Implementing awareness programs can empower students to make informed lifestyle choices

    Improving the Cardiovascular Endurance of Teacher Education Students through the Utilization of the TikTok Application

    Driven by the widespread usage of mobile applications, the expansive development of TikTok application has carried considerable challenges and opportunities to the Physical Education industry. Hence, it is imperative to examine the usefulness of this application to mitigate the low cardiovascular endurance of college students since the conduct of research to improve their physical activity engagement is still significant. Thus, this action research sought to improve the cardiovascular endurance of undergraduate teacher education students using the TikTok application as a tool for their physical activity. This study utilized a quantitative approach, specifically, the pretest-post-test design which is classified as quasi-experimental research. Using the normative data from YMCA 3-minute step test, 50 participants from the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) enrolled in their physical education classes were determined to be qualified based on their pre-test scorecards. Two groups were formed out of them: 25 in the experimental group who were exposed to the intervention and another 25 in the control group who were instructed using the standard discussion. Descriptive statistics and ANOVA-type test analysis were utilized using participants\u27 pre-test and post-test results to ascertain the efficacy of the intervention. Results unveiled that the intervention has significantly improved the experimental group\u27s post-test scores compared to the control group since the post-test results of the control group remained almost stagnant, indicating the intervention\u27s effectiveness by rejecting the null hypothesis. Therefore, this action research inferred that the intervention has efficiently strengthened the cardiovascular endurance of the 1st year BEEd students

    An Achievement Test in Mathematics in the Modern World Course: The Standardization Process

    This study aimed to construct and standardize an achievement test in Mathematics in the Modern World (MMW) course. Achievement test evaluates a student’s performance after a given period of instruction. Using the instrumentation research design, the data were gathered among 273 tertiary students of Notre Dame University enrolled during the second semester of Academic Year 2020-2021. Among these, 38 pilot tested and 213 tested the reliability of the instrument. This study further utilized the following: a 4-point Likert scale for the validation of the instrument, difficulty value and discrimination index formulas for the analysis of each item, and KR20 reliability for internal consistency. Furthermore, a test manual for the MMW achievement test was also established. The preliminary total number of Items before MMW teachers’ validation was 42 items covering the topics for the first 12 hours of the MMW Syllabus. These items were validated through Aiken’s Item Validity method which resulted in the acceptance of 42 items. After rigorous processes, it resulted in the acceptance of 34 items for the MMW achievement test. The instrument’s average validity is 0.935, and the reliability is 0.701 which means that this tool has high validity and acceptable reliability

    Risk Management among Department of Tourism-Accredited Hotels in Region VIII

    he study assessed the risk management implementation and the degree of likelihood and severity of risks affecting the Department of Tourism-Accredited hotels in Region VIII.  In addition, it took into account if there is a significant difference between the perspectives of middle management and rank-and-file employees and the significant relationship of risk management implementation and likelihood and severity of risks and its facilitating and impeding factors.  To attain these, the study utilized both quantitative framework through survey and a qualitative method through interview.  Sixteen hotels participated the study.  Overall, establishments demonstrated an implemented category yet presence of variability suggests the need for continuous improvement in implementation.  As to likelihood and severity of risks it is perceived as “unlikely to happen” yet “very severe” suggesting to roll-out proactive measures.  It showed significant difference in viewpoints where the middle management have a better grasps of risk management than the rank-and-file employees.  While for the test of significant relationship it has a clear negative correlation while no significant correlation was found between risk management and severity of risks.  It revealed themes reactive approach rather than proactive risk management where these hotels need to embody a culture of proactive culture, employee education and training, budget allocation and get rid of being resistance to change and lack of cooperation to enhanced strategies to risk management. Based on the findings, a comprehensive risk management plan anchored to ISO 31000-2018 will be helpful to lessen the vulnerability to various risks to safeguard its stakeholders especially it guests

    Implementation and Educational Outcomes of National Policy Framework on Learners and Schools as Zones of Peace

    fforts continue to label each school in the Philippines as a zone of peace. However, instability in regions with ongoing conflicts keeps schools, teachers, students, and staff at risk. The vulnerability in these areas remains a persistent challenge. The National Policy Framework on the Learners and Schools as Zones of Peace (LSZOP) acknowledges this vulnerability, aiming to address the immediate impact of armed conflicts on learners and schools, thereby fostering the establishment of a resilient society. Thus, this study was created to delineate the implementation of the national policy framework on LSZOP and explain its correlation with educational outcomes in Private and Public Secondary Schools in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed method design, the study enlisted 84 school stakeholders as respondents. A researcher-made questionnaire and semi-structured interview guide were facilitated through stratified random sampling. Quantitative analysis reveals the significant influence of the LSZOP implementation on secondary school development, particularly concerning education for peace, peace for education, and crisis management. Meanwhile, qualitative insights reveal schools\u27 commitment to fairness irrespective of students\u27 tribe, religion, or ethnicity, emphasized by crafted rules promoting cultural sensitivity, fairness, and children\u27s rights. Notably, schools prioritize values formation and respect for individual differences, fostering peace and order within their premises. Nevertheless, findings indicate no significant relationship between the national policy framework implementation and governance as an educational outcome among secondary schools in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. The study advocates for reinforcing LSZOP implementation to realize its envisioned objectives

    Mathematics E-learning Packets for Technical and Livelihood Education (TLE) Automotive Servicing

    This study aimed to develop and evaluate Mathematics e-learning packets tailored for Technical and Livelihood Education (TLE) Automotive Servicing students at a public national high school, in the City Schools Division of Marikina for the School Year 2023-2024. The impetus for the study was based on the increasing number of learners who are having difficulty solving basic mathematical problems.  The research addressed the following questions: (1) identifying Mathematics 9 topics suitable for e-learning packets based on literature review, (2) evaluating the developed packets by automotive and mathematics teachers according to DepEd guidelines concerning content quality, instructional quality, technical quality, assessment, visuals, and plan layout, (3) assessing any significant differences between the evaluations of the two groups of respondents, and (4) gathering comments and suggestions for improvement. Utilizing a descriptive research method, the study involved evaluations from 15 mathematics teachers and 15 automotive teachers from two public national high schools in Marikina City, Philippines. Data were analyzed using Weighted Mean and the Mann-Whitney U Test. Key findings include (1) prioritized topics under the Matatag Curriculum: perpendicular and parallel lines, relations and functions, quadratic functions and equations, direct and inverse variations, trigonometric ratios, and probability of simple events; (2) both groups rated the e-learning packets highly acceptable, with grand weighted means of 3.50 and 3.60, respectively; (3) no significant difference was found between the evaluations of the two groups; (4) respondents praised the packets\u27 adequacy, organization, relevance, and interactivity, offering suggestions to incorporate more visuals, expand topics and activities, add video demonstrations, and involve industry professionals.  In conclusion, the developed e-learning packets were well-received and deemed effective, with recommended enhancements aimed at further enriching the learning experience and bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application

    Senior High School Program Graduates and Teachers’ Satisfaction and Challenges: Spring Board of Plan Adjustments

    The study was conducted to determine the challenges and satisfaction of the teachers and graduates on the implementation of Senior High School (SHS) Program. Out of 1615 first batch graduates of school year 2017-2018, 306 of them were used as respondents of this study.  These respondents were enrolled in two colleges in the Province of Camiguin. While 91 out of 130 SHS teachers from 10 public schools in DepEd-Camiguin represented were used as sample from the SHS implementers. The study utilized the quantitative-descriptive method to answer the research questions. Frequency, mean, ANOVA and multiple regressions were used to analyse the data. The study revealed that the graduate respondents were very disappointed in schools with no laboratories and workshops. They had difficulties in demonstrating their knowledge into actual experiential learning for the tools, materials, equipment and updated audio-visual materials needed were not available, if there were, and then it is not enough. Also, students’ research activities were impeded for no internet connections and other instructional resources available for to use. On the other hand, SHS teachers needed more TGs and CGs, teaching supplies and materials, laboratories and workshops to be effective and efficient to support learning. The graduates were not satisfied on the teachers’ effectiveness and efficiency in delivering the lessons to them. The overall results revealed that there is no significant relationship between satisfactions and challenges among SHS graduates and teachers’ in SHS program implementation. This study found out the need to implement adjustment to address the challenges identified by the respondents. Various programs and activities were needed to address the shortages and needs of the Senior High School community. Moreover, the outcome of the plan adjustments is to encourage the optimistic response of the department heads, school heads, teachers and students. By so doing, improvements will be transpired

    Assessment of Police Trainees’ Satisfaction with the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course of The National Police Training Institute

    This study aimed to determine police trainees\u27 satisfaction with the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course of the NPTI, and the significant difference in satisfaction between Criminology and non-criminology graduate police trainees. The study applied descriptive correlational research design and interviews using a self-made survey questionnaire for 218 respondents and prepared guided interview questions for five key informants from the graduating police trainees at NCRTC. The data obtained were collated, sorted, summarized, and subjected to statistical treatment methods. The result of the study revealed that police trainees were very satisfied with the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course. They greatly appreciated the quality of training program. However, facilities, equipment, and supplies needed attention and improvement. Interviews disclosed that despite high satisfaction, police trainees faced various challenges that dissatisfied them. These includes frequent shortages of water supplies, overcrowding of dormitories and classrooms, and insufficient faculty members. However, despite these, they remained optimistic that the training management can address it. Additionally, the study found that there was no significant difference in satisfaction between Criminology and non-criminology graduate police trainees. This suggests that both groups had similar levels of satisfaction, and highly appreciative with the training program. To enhance further the satisfaction of police trainees, the NPTI should focus on improving facilities, equipment, and supplies, and address the specific concerns raised by the trainees. Furthermore, an action plan should be developed, outlining realistic, measurable, and time-bound plans, programs, and activities to address the concerns of police trainees
