Consistent with the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) design of ISO 9001:2015, performance evaluation of policies pertaining to the University’s main functions, i.e., instruction, research, and extension, should be pursued, especially for a newly implemented policy. Small Private Online Courses (SPOCs) at Bulacan State University were crafted, developed, and enhanced not only in compliance with the demands of continuing education but also to suit the standard of learning that is equal to classroom instruction catered physically. Whether these courses became effective and efficient within the duration of implementation remains to be determined. In the hope of having a fair and honest assessment that willlead towards relevant refinement of offering SPOCs, this mixed method of research undertaking aims to re-examine its efficiency and effectiveness, specifically, the learnings, issues and challenges encountered by the facultymembers and students when using SPOC as modality. Thesurvey questionnaire and interview questions were developed and validated and the interview among faculty members were face to face while the survey questionnaire for the SPOC students was through Google form for answering online, and the respondents were five thousand and eight students and twenty-five faculty members were interviewed. The findings indicate the factors that may impede the success of the implementation of SPOCs, aside from personal logistic challenges, the lack of discipline to manage time and sustain the interest in a given lesson are problems that require attention and further innovation. While connectivity can be identified as a personal logistic challenge, it can also be a challenge on the part of the University. The problem of connectivity may be seen as an opportunity for the University to create its own Learning Management System that can be customized to suit fit according to bandwidth, accessible and affordable to students. It can be concluded that SPOC is a promising learning platform in a world where hybrid interactions are highly relevant and can help save a lot of time and resources which brings in the recommendation to revisit, redesign, and recalibrate it for the ever-changing landscape of education

    Get PDF
Cockroaches are resilient insects that thrive in various environments, including public markets. These creatures can act as mechanical vectors for intestinal helminths, posing a risk to human health. This study aimed to identify and measure the infestation rate of intestinal helminths in cockroaches from Bankerohan Public Market and Agdao Public Market in Davao City. Cockroaches were collected using specialized traps via the “catch-and-release” method, and the presence of intestinal parasites on their external surfaces was determined. The study found that cockroaches from both markets harbored Hookworm and Ascaris lumbricoides, with Ascaris lumbricoides having the highest frequency and infestation rate among the entire population of cockroaches gathered from both markets. The infestation rate of Ascaris lumbricoides was higher in the Bankerohan public market compared to the Agdao public market; however, the findings reveal that there is no correlation between the frequency of the parasites and the public market studied, indicating that the occurrence of the parasites cannot be attributed to the location of the public markets. The study highlights the need for improved sanitation practices and awareness to control parasite transmission through cockroaches, which can serve as vectors for these pathogens

A clearer understanding of human or social aspects of environmental issues will enhance conservation. While social acceptance is critical in determining MPA success, it continues to be an inadequately explored area of research. This study examined the acceptability of the proposed Marine Protected Area in Ozamiz City, Philippines. Stressing the significance of social acceptability to an MPA\u27s successful implementation, this investigated the influence of the fishing households\u27 knowledge of the marine environment and coastal resource management and the perceived condition of the coastal environment on the social acceptability of a proposed MPA implementation. The study used a mixed-method, particularly concurrent triangulation design, utilizing a sample of 270 fishing households in the 15 coastal barangays of Ozamiz City. The data were gathered through a survey supplemented with key informant interviews (KII). The study revealed that the knowledge of the marine environment and coastal resource management had shown a highly significant relationship and emerged as a predictor of the social acceptability of the proposed MPA. Therefore, greater knowledge of the marine environment and coastal resource management among the fisher folks and stakeholders, in general, may result in a higher level of acceptability of the proposed MPA, thus resulting in a successful implementation. Strategies must be implemented to enhance and enrich the fisher folks\u27 knowledge of the marine ecosystem and coastal resource management. Information on the features, characteristics, and importance of the corals and coral reefs to the marine ecosystem should be emphasized

    Get PDF
he study examines the factors influencing students\u27 decisions to pursue accounting certification and their impact on Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification. It focuses on academic, financial, social, and career motivations, investigating their relationships with age, gender, and year level. Utilizing the convergent parallel method with a descriptive correlational approach and stratified random sampling, the research was confined to Aldersgate College, Inc. A survey questionnaire was administered to 115 accountancy students across all year levels. The findings suggest several key insights. Firstly, students aged 19-20, predominantly female, and in their first year exhibit a heightened interest in accounting certification. Financial, social, and career motivations emerge as the most influential factors, with academic motivation following closely behind. Secondly, while significant correlations exist between motivational factors and age/gender, their relationship with year level is comparatively weaker. Notably, motivational factors display a positive association with age and gender, indicating their substantial influence. Conversely, the correlation with year level is marginal, suggesting its limited impact. Consequently, age and gender emerge as more salient variables than year level in driving students\u27 motivation towards CPA certification. These findings have important implications for accounting educators, policymakers, and practitioners who can use them to develop more effective strategies to motivate accounting students towards achieving CPA certification and success in their careers

    Get PDF
The study aimed to evaluate learning motivation and self-efficacy among seventh graders. The result of the findings was the low of confidence in public speaking, business writing, and the lack of interest in English culture, history and literature. A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design was utilized, involving 283 seventh grade learners from one of the schools in Cluster 1 Division of Pampanga. The result of the study showed that the respondents have low confidence in writing an English letter, are afraid of public speaking, and lack interest in English cultural content. On the other hand, they see English as a tool for their future when they seek jobs or travel abroad, and they also see English as their motivation to study hard for their future career. Furthermore, the study also discovered connection between the two variables. Learning motivation could result from the positive outcomes of the students\u27 insight when it comes to English; they would motivate themselves to master English. Although self-efficacy will determine their beliefs about their ability to learn, these learning motivations and self-efficacy further contribute to improving the learning confidence of a student. Finally, the findings have significance for boosting confidence and improving the abilities of the learners. Providing opportunities for students to use English in supportive environments, making English learning relevant and engaging, and helping students develop positive self-efficacy beliefs about their ability to learn English should be the main goals of interventions

Exploring the impact of the minimum pay scale and socio-demographic fac-tors on job satisfaction: An evidence from Ready-made garment workers in Bangladesh

    Get PDF
Bangladesh\u27s Ready-Made Garments contribute significantly to the country\u27s economy and employment. In Bangladesh, spontaneous outbursts are usually caused by Ready-Made Garment workers due to inadequate pay, unpaid wages, and compensation for overtime work. Since these three criteria affect workers\u27 job satisfaction, and some socio-demographic characteristics such as age, education, gender, marital status also influence job satiety, finally, all of these were needed to be studied in a single research study to narrate the impact of pay scale on garment workers, which had not done yet with the aid of nonparametric tests. So this research explored the impact of the 2018 revised minimum wage policy by examining workers\u27 perceptions of wages, including basic pay, overtime compensation, various allowances (housing, medical, food, transportation), and the degree of workers\u27 satisfaction within a group based on demographic traits. 80 responses, according to convenience sampling, were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The results highlighted dissatisfaction with basic pay, late payments, medical, and housing allowances but higher satisfaction with overtime compensation and transportation stipends. The study also found no significant difference in overall satisfaction with the wage structure based on gender or marital status, but it showed that aged, more educated workers are, for some reason, happier. Thus, the findings provide important insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders, shedding light on timely payment with a revised pay scale according to the present circumstances, considering worker needs like medical, housing allowances, etc. and creating an environment to involve women and young people
