Analysis of Internal Migration in Brooke’s Point, Palawan: Implications for Policy Formulation (2025)

    No full text
This study examined the internal migration dynamics in Brooke’s Point, Palawan, with particular emphasis on the socio-economic demographic profile of in-migrants, the key aspects influencing migration, and its economic, social, and environmental implications for local development.Employing a descriptive-empirical survey design, data were gathered from 381 respondents across eight barangays with significant migrant populations.Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including Pearson’s r and Chi-square tests, to determine relationships between socio-economic variables and migration patterns.Findings reveal that internal migration in Brooke’s Point is primarily economically driven, dominated by working-age, married, and male individuals seeking better livelihood opportunities. The municipality’s role as a regional agro-industrial hub has made it a major destination for migrants from Luzon and the Visayas. Most migrants are semi-skilled and engaged in informal or self-employed work, reflecting both the opportunities and vulnerabilities of migration. The study affirms E. Lee’s Push-Pull Theory, with lack of jobs as the strongest push factor and employment availability as the main pull factor, while De Haas’ Migration Transition Theory explains the shift from survival-driven to opportunity-driven migration. Migration has generated largely positive effects stimulating business growth, expanding markets, and fostering cultural diversity. However, challenges persist, including underemployment, social integration gaps, and environmental strain from unregulated settlement expansion. To address these, the study recommends integrating the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) framework in local governance, strengthening skills training and livelihood programs, promoting social cohesion, and enforcing sustainable land-use policies.Overall, internal migration in Brooke’s Point emerges as both a transformative and strategic force for inclusive and sustainable rural development

    No full text
This research is an examination of the relationship between school administrator job motivation and teacher performance in the outlying areas in the Sulu Province particulazrly Jolo district. Schools in remote locations may experience constraints such as resource limitations, social-politcal unrest, and logistic obstacles. In this context, the study examines whether APT motivation of Administrators impacts teacher effectiveness and school climate. The study used a descriptive-correlational survey design with 90 teachers and 10 administrators being utilized as data respondents through structured interviews. In the survey, agreement is achieved by the teachers with all interpretations of motivated administrators, although performance appears generally to be limited to motivation. Salient motivational practices were professional rewards, organizational support, and self-development experiences. In addition, collaborative, transformational influential leadership styles with open communication were found to be enhancing teacher engagement and improving instructional performance. Despite geographical and resource constraints, the motivation of administrators was high and it reflected increased teacher effectiveness. In order to address these issues further, it was suggested that different strategies, e.g., enhanced training programs, inter-school cooperation, and equitable resource allocation be implemented. The results emphasize the importance of motivated managers in maintaining teacher productivity and teaching quality in disadvantaged and hard-to-reach areas. The author indicates that to improve teacher dedication and student learning effects, the enhancement of leadership motivation is required. Recommendations are for policy reforms, enhanced communication and community involvement strategies to give support for school leadership in insular provinces such as Sulu

    No full text
This study examined the communication challenges and macro skill proficiency of third-year Purposive Communication students at the Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST) during the first semester of SY 2024–2025. Using a descriptive-comparative-correlational design, data were collected from 152 students across four programs through using IELTS mock tests and researcher-made questionnaires. Findings revealed that students struggled most with understanding main ideas and inferencing, followed by critical thinking, lexical resource and vocabulary, reading strategies, and grammatical range accuracy. All macro skills were all at developing levels except viewing, which found to be in Good level; revealing listening to be the weakest and viewing as the strongest. There were significant performance differences found across paired macro skills with listening varying significantly among other macro skills and across paired programs with Bachelor of  Science in Civil Engineering [BSCE] students performing the strongest and Bachelor of Engineering Technology Major in Mechanical Automotive Engineering Technology [BET-MAET] performing the weakest. The study found a significant correlation of about 47.9% variance showing that students who faced greater communicative challenges are also likely to have lower macro skill proficiency. Strategies employed in reading, critical thinking, and grammatical skills proved to have moderate effects on majority of the macro skills but proved to have very weak influence on reading, interestingly as it is also the least influenced skill.

    No full text
This is a descriptive-correlational study (Aming-Hayudini et al., 2024)that focuses on the extent of organizational information vis-ibility and ethical climate among employees of line agencies in Su-lu during Fiscal Year 2022. The results indicate that the over-whelming majority of the 200 respondent-employees were female, aged below 30 years old, with 5 or fewer years of service in the organization. Most of them were permanent employees, but nearly half are contractuals; most have completed a Bachelor\u27s degree. In terms of organizational information visibility, the line agencies in Sulu manage information availability, approval, and accessibility at a high level. Similarly, the agencies exhibit a strong ethical climate, characterized by high ratings in egoism, benevolence, and princi-pled ethical dimensions. No significant differences in either organ-izational information visibility or ethical climate were found when data were analyzed by gender, age, length of service, appointment status, or educational attainment. Furthermore, a strong positive correlation is established between the sub-categories of organiza-tional information visibility: availability, approval, and accessibil-ity, and ethical climate: egoism, benevolence, and principled. These findings support the theoretical models by Stohl et al. (2016) on organizational information visibility and Martin & Cullen (2006) on ethical climate, which state that the proper management of or-ganizational information is very much associated with a positive ethical work climate in the line agencies of Sulu

The aimed of this study was to revisit the community and service-oriented policing (CSOP) system for sustainable peace and order. This study used survey methods in conjunction with descriptive study design. Police Stations 6 and 13 in the barangays of Batasan Hills, Commonwealth, and Payatas were used for the locale of the study. The study only looked at the age, gender, marital status, high-est level of schooling, classification, place of assignment for PNP members, and address of barangay officials and residents of the people who answered the survey. In the study of Martinez (2019) provided a survey questionnaire that was used as the research in-strument in this study. They used the mean and Pearson-r Correla-tion to examine the data. Three groups of respondents were asked to rate how well the Community and Service-Oriented Policing (CSOP) System strategies were being put into action. The strategies were evaluated in terms of how well they supported local chief ex-ecutives (LCEs), how well they provided police services, and how well they worked with the community. Out of the 279 people who willingly answered the survey, 267 were found. Some went through Google Forms, while others were given hard copies. The Philippine National Police started to work together with mayors, local chief executives, and the people who live in the area to improve the way they provide police services thus, local chief executives are in full support to the implementation of the community and service-oriented policing system as they are regularly coordinating with the provincial/regional office of the National Police Commission, they are ready to give funds as their support to the implementation of the community and service-oriented policing for the betterment of their constituents in the municipality/city as these were based on the problems that people in the community had pointed out

    No full text
This mixed-method research aimed to evaluate the teaching dynamics, public speaking anxiety, and language proficiency of student interns in Capiz during the Academic Year 2023-2024. A sample of 300 student interns, drawn from a total population of 1,137 across various teacher education programs, participated in the study. Additionally, nine teacher mentors, an internship supervisor, and nine student interns from Higher Education Institutions in Capiz were involved in the quali-tative component. Data collection employed a researcher-constructed questionnaire and focus group discussion guide, addressing variables such as teaching dynamics, public speaking anxiety, and language pro-ficiency. Statistical tools used included mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient, with an alpha level set at .05. The findings revealed that student interns demonstrated a "very high" level of teaching dynamics, excelling in classroom authority, communication, interaction, and expertise while showing a "high" lev-el of assessment knowledge. Significantly, public speaking anxiety was “moderate” across behavioral and emotional components. The interns exhibited "very high" language proficiency, particularly in writing, with "high" vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension levels. There were no significant differences in public speaking anxiety across teaching dynamics or language proficiency levels. However, a signifi-cant relationship was found between teaching dynamics and both pub-lic speaking anxiety and language proficiency. No significant relation-ship was found between language proficiency and public speaking anx-iety. These findings suggest that while student interns\u27 teaching dy-namics and language proficiency are strong, addressing public speak-ing anxiety remains essential to further enhance their overall teaching effectiveness
