The goal of outcome-based teaching and learning, or OBTL, is to provide students with explicit instructions on what they are expected to learn and how to demonstrate that learning before any instruction even begins. While the idea behind OBTL has been around for a while, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has just lately included it in its training curriculum. The Coast Guard Special Operations Force (CGSOF), one of the PCG\u27s operating units, is dedicated to integrating OBTL into its system through its training institute in order to address the current trend in education. Determining the degree of OBTL practice implementation in the CGSOF-led specialized courses is the primary goal of the research. This study used a mixed-methods research approach that used quantitative and qualitative techniques. mixed-methods research design where survey questionnaires and informal interviews were used in data gathering. There were 42 instructors and 130 trainees from the CGSOF included in the study. The findings revealed that both the instructors’ self-assessment and the trainees’ observation showed a significant extent in the implementation of OBTL practices. There is a substantial alignment between the measurable competencies that trainees should exhibit at the end of the course with respect to its three main components: the intended learning outcomes (ILOs), teaching and learning activities (TLAs), and assessment tasks (ATs). Despite several identified factors affecting the OBTL implementation, including the lack of equipment and training facilities that most affect the alignment of the ILOs, TLAs, and ATs, it was still indicated that the implementation of OBTL in the CGSOF specialization courses has been applied with a consistently high degree of satisfaction and efficacy, offering instructors and trainees a well-rounded education experience

    Get PDF
It is empirical that nurses must receive education and training to strengthen their research skills to apply evidence-based practice. This study aimed to ascertain how nurses\u27 views toward undertaking research in private healthcare facilities correlated with their capacity for research. A predictive-correlational design was used in the study. 120 nurses were conveniently selected and included in the research. An adapted survey questionnaire from the study of Bostrom et al. (1989) and Perez et al. (2022) was used for data gathering. Results showed that majority of the respondents were female in their middle-age who had worked in the healthcare facility’s ward for two years or less. Their attitude toward research undertaking and ability were both quite excellent. Nurses\u27 attitudes regarding performing research and their research competence were significantly correlated. However, there was no discernible correlation between attitudes and the demographic profile. Furthermore, the nurses’ research abilities greatly influence their attitudes toward performing research. These results show that nurses can undertake research and have a positive attitude toward it. The study emphasizes the need to strengthen these skills through education and training by highlighting the strong association between nurses\u27 research capacities and their positive attitude toward undertaking research. Developing nurses\u27 research abilities fosters an environment where practice is increasingly grounded on evidence.&nbsp

The study sought to determine the effects of different levels of concentrations of bio-stimulant solution (BSS) in enhancing the growth and maximizing the yield of the cucumber plant. The study was conducted at UNO-R School of Agriculture, Philippines, last January 8, 2024, to March 18, 2024. The study was laid out in (CRD) with four treatments and replicated 4 times. The BSS solution was diluted in the water. It was applied at the base of the vine following the research protocol. Statistical analysis revealed highly significant differences among the treatments in growth and yield parameters such as length of vine and weight of marketable fruits, respectively. Likewise, results showed highly significant differences among treatments on flower initiation, number of leaves, number of fruits, circumference, and diameter of fruits, biomass, and root weight. For the longest vine, greater number of leaves, early flower initiation, great number of fruits, greater length and bigger circumference of fruits, heavier weight of fruits, heavier roots, and biomass accumulation were obtained from plants applied with 400ml BSS, followed by 300ml BSS, and 200ml BSS, respectively. While those who have no BSS had the lowest result in almost all of the parameters mentioned above. Four growth characteristics are strongly correlated with the length of vines, and three for the root weight, respectively.  This study recommends the use of 400ml BSS in enhancing the growth and maximizing the yield of cucumber

    Get PDF
All individuals, regardless of their level of education and employment status, should practice effective management of financial resources. This is essential for setting and attaining financial objectives and making prudent financial decisions. A case study was conducted to deeply analyze the money management practices from the lens of senior high school teachers at a public school in Cebu City, reflecting practices concerning budgeting, saving, spending, debt repayment, and retirement. There were ten key informants, five (5) from Grade 11 and another (5) from Grade 12. These individuals have qualified to be key informants in the study as they meet the inclusion criteria set by the researchers. During the data analysis, notable themes in every indicator were found: needs and wants, meeting financial obligations, using a piggy bank, creating reserves for debt settlement, and preparation for retirement through saving. This shows that despite facing ongoing challenges, these individuals still have the courage and full awareness to manage their money correctly, allowing them to make sound financial decisions.  Understanding fundamental finance principles will enable educators to transform their budgets into actionable strategies, establish achievable savings targets, and prioritize repaying debts. This knowledge equips them to more effectively navigate financial hurdles like living expenses, healthcare costs, and planning for retirement. Furthermore, properly implementing effective personal financial planning can enable teachers to attain financial growth and security, leading to increased independence, reduced financial and emotional stress, and an enhanced quality of life

Cost and Time Overrun of Public Infrastructure Project in The Philippines: Inhibiting Factors and Mitigating Measures

    Get PDF
Time and cost overruns in the implementation of infrastructure pro-jects are endless, as appears in all the implementing agencies of the government. According to the recent report of the state auditor, pro-jects were not completed within the specific contract time, while the socioeconomic planning body reported cost overruns on several big-ticket projects. This study proposes a frame of factors influencing overruns and mitigation actions as a contribution to the risk analy-sis of the implementation of projects as well as the project manage-ment initiative in monitoring and control of projects. By analyzing the datasets from Metro Manila, this study identified the most prevalent influencing factor of cost and time overruns faced in the implementation of infrastructure projects and developed measures to mitigate overruns. A total of 196 professionals responded to a questionnaire, and 12 participants were involved in unstructured interviews, which supported the data and results. To interpret and validate the data gathered, a relative importance index and a one-way analysis of variance test were used. The study revealed that the influencing factors leading to time overruns are inaccurate budget-ing, location of site, suspension of work, land acquisition, and varia-tion order, while for the cost overrun factors, inaccurate budgeting, variation order, inadequate project planning, market conditions, and inadequate site investigations prevail. A relationship between the perceptions of the 3 groups, namely the contractor, consultant, and implementing agency, with regards to the cost overrun factors was significant. However, with regards to the time overrun factors, they are not significant

This qualitative phenomenological study investigates the lived experi-ences of teachers in rural, urban, and coastal areas of Albay, Philippines, highlighting the challenges and skills that shape their professional lives. Despite the critical role of teachers in education, little research has fo-cused on how geographical context influences their experiences. In-depth interviews and participant observation were employed to gather data from teacher-participants. The study utilized the phenomenologi-cal frameworks of Husserl and Heidegger to analyze the data and cap-ture the essence of the participants\u27 experiences. The findings reveal common life skills among teachers, including adaptability, effective communication, interpersonal skills, pedagogical skills, and practicality. Both rural and urban teachers demonstrated digital literacy, while competitiveness was more pronounced in urban settings. Financial lit-eracy emerged as a strength among rural and coastal teachers, likely due to fewer distractions that lead to excessive spending. Urban teach-ers were found to be more susceptible to overspending due to the influ-ence of commercial establishments and entertainment options in their environments. These outcomes underscore the importance of under-standing how geographical context impacts teachers\u27 experiences and skills, providing insights that can inform educational policy and prac-tice
