English Reading Performance and Metacognitive Strategies: Implications for Students’ Academic Success
Education is not a privilege; it is a human right. In response, Sustainable Development Goals\u27 "Let Me Learn" stated that nearly two-thirds of 10-year-olds can hardly read nor perceive and simplify a text, which is even more severe in the Philippines, where reading is in English. Thus, this research sought to examine the relationship between English reading performance and the metacognitive strategies of the grade 7 students on their word recognition and reading comprehension through the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory to determine their reading profile. In correlation, the Metacognitive Reading Strategies Questionnaire was used to self-assess reading strategies. The quantitative-descriptive correlational research design revealed no significant relationship between English reading performance and metacognitive strategies. However, a significant but weak relationship was seen between oral reading and pragmatic-behavioral strategies. It signifies that they can read some words but can hardly comprehend the reading text. The study\u27s product mainly suggested that the variables do not correlate, concluding that to move toward equitable educational outcomes for an increase in their reading level, reimagining how to foster and reinforce the students to discover and strengthen their gradual progress in reading must at least be achieved to meet the expectations and specifications throughout the act of reading
The Mobile Phone use of Senior High School Learners
The information gathered from one of the secondary public schools in Cluster 1, Division of Pampanga\u27s senior high schools for the academic year 2023–2024, the study looked at how the students used their phones. The study investigates the relationship between students\u27 screen addiction and factors such as stress levels, physical activity levels, and lack of self-control. Through this discovery, an intervention plan is being developed by the researchers to effectively encourage senior high school students to balance their mobile phone usage. Approximately, 643 senior high learners from both levels participated in the study on the value of mobile phone usage among mobile phone users (MPUs).A mixed-method sequential explanatory design was used. According to the study, students who use screens excessively are more likely to experience stress, obsessive behavior, and a loss of self-control, among other negative consequences. On the contrary, physical activity is associated with lower stress levels among individuals. This study reveals senior high school students experience anxiety, eating problems, and smartphone addiction, impacting their behavior and mental health. Furthermore, the study found a correlation between stress levels and exercise and screen addiction. This connection may be the result of the study emphasizing the detrimental effects of excessive mobile phone use on the physical and emotional well-being of seniors in high school. Additionally, this study recommends managing digital resources, encouraging everyday life contacts, and encouraging a balanced approach to cell phone usage. Thus, the study highlights the significance of finding a balance between personal health and technology used to enhance student\u27s educational experiences and quality of life. To enhance their academic performance and mental health, students should be taught about the dangers of excessive mobile phone usage, encouraged to practice personal wellness, and given preventative steps to follow

Future researchers may use it as a backbone for further study by taking on other variables that were not tested in this study
Level of Effectiveness and Seriousness on The Problems Encountered in the Implementation of Crime Prevention Strategies of The Philippine Na-tional Police in Olongapo City, Philippines
Every country is impacted by criminality on an economic, social, and political level. The national news in the Philippines typically reports on crimes against persons and property because of the prevailing belief that the country\u27s economic standing is insufficient to support an individual\u27s level of living. The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Olongapo City has not yet succeeded in implementing crime prevention and control, despite their best efforts to prevent crime. The Philippines uses foreign approaches to crime prevention that don\u27t align with the nation\u27s current criminality issues. The PNP organization is facing difficulty in crime prevention due to its inability to demonstrate its efficacy and efficiency in the performance of its duty. The primary aspect that leads to the prevention of crime is following the path of morality, virtue, and ethics by all the individuals. These morals and values would enable a person to focus on the achievement of his life and career goals and abstain from conducting any kind of criminal and violent acts
Unveiling The Teaching of Reading Skills at the Senior High Level: Perspectives from General Santos City Schools
Several data from national and international tests have revealed the continued and unfortunate decline in reading proficiency among young Filipinos. Although many studies have already investigated this matter, few have dared to explore how higher levels of basic education are addressing the issue and preparing young Filipinos to be proficient readers for college. Hence, this qualitative research explored the teaching of reading skills at the senior high level and developed a survey questionnaire based on the themes that emerged from the interview data. Participants in the study included 14 teachers from three prominent schools in General Santos City. With a phenomenological approach, the researcher conducted key informant interviews using a developed and validated semi-structured interview schedule. The qualitative findings revealed three main dominant themes namely; the encountered challenges of the teachers, their practice of certain approaches and strategies in teaching reading skills, and their implementation of several intervention and remediation programs. The Dominant themes, emergent themes, subthemes, and codes, were then used as the basis for developing a survey questionnaire that had undergone reliability and validity testing. With the results, the research recommends revisiting the senior high curriculum and including intervention or remediation programs to aid struggling senior high readers and strengthen the reading skills of senior high students in general. Furthermore, the researcher encourages using the developed survey questionnaire to investigate the phenomenon further in a more generalizable population

Knowledge and Social Relevance: Analyzing Socio-scientific Nature of Learning Competencies and Standards in Grade 8 Science
The Philippine education system is obscured of global competence by various challenges including developing skills and inclusive education (Diano, et. al, 2023). Since 2018, the Philippines has placed at the bottom, ranking last out of 78 participants, and barely improved in 2022 ranking 77th out of 81 countries participating (Education GPS & OECD, n.d.; OECD, 2022). A study revealed that essential competencies in the curriculum should highlight various concepts and contexts of problems in the community (Belmi & Mangali, 2020). Through a quantitative research design, this study analyzed 40 stratified samples of competencies and standards of the Grade 8 Science Curriculum Guide for its distribution and extent of socio-scientific issues (SSI) consideration and the underlying factors that could potentially hinder its effective implementation in the four (4) science disciplines. Findings revealed an unequal distribution of consideration in the curriculum guide for SSI in different science disciplines. Earth and Space with a mean of 4.26 appear to integrate SSI more effectively as compared to other science disciplines. On the other hand, varying factors such as limitations to various resources and socio-cultural contexts could largely hinder the implementation and integration of SSI in the curriculum guide. This study concludes that there is sufficient and acceptable frequency in the distribution of SSI in the curriculum guide of Science Grade 8 across four core disciplines, however, this study also acknowledges that there are present limitations that need to be considered
