Development of Competency Manual for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commanding Officers
Get PDFThe study emphasized the importance for effective leadership in the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and introduces the development of a specialized Competency Manual tailored for PCG Commanding Officers, guided by the Dreyfus model of skills acquisition. While effective leadership is vital for maritime safety and security, the absence of a structured competency framework poses challenges for PCG Commanding Officers, impeding their adaptability and effectiveness in rapidly evolving maritime environment. The development process encompassed a thorough needs assessment, which included reviewing PCG regulations, competency frameworks, and conducting a comprehensive analysis of the Dreyfus model. Collaborative efforts with subject matter experts, surveys, and pilot testing involving PCG officers played a pivotal role in refining the content of the manual. The result of the study yields a Competency Manual that meticulously defines specific competencies, knowledge, skills, and behaviors deemed essential at each stage of the Dreyfus model. Covering critical areas such as maritime regulations, navigation, decision-making, leadership, and crisis management, the manual precisely caters to the unique demands placed on PCG Commanding Officers. The Competency Manual stands out as a structured and progressive tool for skill development, ensuring that PCG Commanding Officers are well-prepared to navigate the difficult challenges inherent in their roles. Effective implementation that entails the seamless integration of the manual into PCG\u27s training programs, conducting routine assessments, and establishing channels for continuous improvement. This strategic approach seeks to foster the development of PCG Commanding Officers into highly proficient leaders, empowering them to adeptly protect maritime interests in the Philippines
Impact of Intervention on Students’ Mastery Level and Analysis of Misconceptions in Operations on Integers
Get PDFOne of the fundamental mathematics concepts expected of a high school student to master is integers. However, many students exhibit misconceptions in operating integers which affect their performance as they advanced to the higher level of mathematics. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of the intervention on students’ mastery level and analyze the misconceptions in operations on integers. In this study, a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-post-test design was employed. A total of fifty-six (56) grade 7 students were conveniently chosen of which twenty-six (26) were males and thirty (30) were females. Among these, twenty-nine (29) students belonged to Grade 7A, and twenty-seven (27) students belonged to Grade 7B. The data collected were analyzed using JAMOVI, an open statistical software. The Mean Percentage Score (MPS) was calculated to determine the mastery level exhibited by the students. Results revealed significant increase in the mastery level of grade 7 students after the intervention. In addition, there were no significant differences in the mastery level of the students in terms of the gender and section. Although the mastery level of the students improved, there were recurring misconceptions observed after the intervention. The researchers suggest further study evaluating the benefits of intervention in addressing the students\u27 misconceptions in the four fundamental operations on integers
Application of Dayak Onion (Eleutherine bulbosa Urb.) as a Preservative for Animal Protein: Chicken Meat
Get PDFThe adoption of chicken meat as the primary protein source remains limited in Indonesia due to restrictions on its shelf life. Marinating chicken meat with Dayak onion, known for its antibacterial and antioxidant characteristics, can prolong the meat\u27s shelf life. This research evaluates the efficacy of Dayak onion as a natural preservative for animal protein, specifically chicken meat. The study used a qualitative experimental design featuring both control and treatment groups. The experiment involved testing the pH value and cooking loss value of chicken meat that has been marinated with Dayak onion powder (treatment) and chicken meat that had not been marinated (control). The process of data analysis commenced with the application of the Saphiro-Wilk Test to ascertain the nature of the distribution. If the distribution is found to be normal, the subsequent step involves conducting the Independent-T test. Conversely, if the distribution is determined to be non-normal, the Mann-Whitney Test is employed instead. The research findings indicated that Dayak onion has a notable effect on maintaining the pH level of chicken flesh after 9 hours, as opposed to untreated chicken meat (p0.05). The overall findings demonstrate the capacity of Dayak onion as an organic preservative for chicken meat
Utilizing the Aquatic Exercises Approach Intervention (AEAI) Program for a Filipino Adolescent with Autism
Get PDFAcquiring swimming skills is critical for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) since drowning is one of the leading causes of death for the ASD community (National Autism Association, 2011). A qualitative content analysis research design was used to investigate the effect of aquatic exercises approach on the development of swimming skills needed by a student with ASD to swim independently. The study used a 10-day Aquatic Exercises Approach Intervention (AEAI) program. Also, the Swimming and Water Independence Measure (SWIM) test consists of eleven swimming skills, developed by the Halliwick\u27s Association of Swimming Therapy, was used for the pre-test and post-test. A detailed description of progress was created for each of the swimming skills. The study showed that the AEAI program showed significant improvements in ten of the aquatic skills. The only exception was the Breath Control skill wherein the student maintained his score in both assessments. The findings showed that the AEAI program can help a student with ASD acquiring the swimming skills needed to swim independently. However, future lessons may include more than one student or make changes to the program adaptable to diverse groups
The Effectiveness of Animation Media on The Language Skills of Class V Students
Get PDFThis research aims to see the effectiveness of animation media on the language skills of class V students at SDN 091537 Pematangsiantar. This research will be carried out in class V at SD Negeri 091537 Hutabayu which is located at Hutabayu Village, Hutabayuraja District, Simalungun Regency. This research was carried out in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The population in this study were all fifth grade students at SD Negeri 091537 Hutabayu. In this study, the population was all fifth grade students at SD Negeri 091537 with a total of 25 students. Data analysis techniques in quantitative research use statistics, namely parametric statistics and the data analyzed is in the form of a ratio scale or interval scale. Data is taken from a normally distributed population. This research discusses whether audio-visual media is effective in improving students\u27 speaking abilities. In this research, an experimental method was used using an initial test (pretest) and final text (posttest). From the t-test paired samples test above, a t-value of 14.713 can be obtained with a significance level of 0.000. Because the significant probability is much smaller than 0.05, namely 0.000 and tcount is 14.713 > ttable = 2.05183, then Ho is rejected. H1 is accepted. This shows that there is effectiveness of animation media on the language skills of class V students at SDN 091537 Pematangsiantar
Development and Validation of Micro-Lecture Videos as Learning Support Material for Grade 7 Science Competencies
Get PDFAs students opted for modular distance learning during the pandemic, they were forced to self-regulated learning with little assistance from teachers. Video lectures are materials commonly designed for active learning methods in distance learning. However, studies found that the length of videos has a strong influence on students’ control over their learning. Longer videos have issues sustaining students’ focused attention to content. This study aimed to develop, validate and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of micro-lecture videos in Physics. Using the developmental research design anchored on the ADDIE model, 7 videos were developed. Videos were quality assured and administered to grade 7 students for evaluation, and feedbacking. Using a developed instrument, an LRMDS standard evaluation tool from the Department of Education, and thematic analysis, quality assurance results, test scores, and interview transcripts were gathered and analyzed statistically and thematically. Results show that despite limited engagement, video lectures are vital so students are guided to self–regulate their learning at their own pace. They also brought positive outcomes, particularly on ownership of learning where students manage and control the pace of their video view, allowing them to replay anytime. On the quality of materials, micro-lecture videos have relevant, logically arranged information, with appropriate content and language that are free of bias. They also have a well-defined purpose, are content-friendly, and can engage viewers for a better understanding of concepts. Moreover, end-users responded that the material was easy to use, can be viewed in messenger, and can be downloaded anytime since it has a smaller file size
Awareness Level of Internal and External Stakeholders’ Participation in the Implementation of Sustainable School Programs and Projects: Input to Effective Stakeholders Management Plan
Get PDFStakeholders were an important element in any institution, especially in the educational arena. It was composed of teachers, guardians, students, and local government units who play meaningful roles in achievinga quality education, affordable education, school performance as well as resources. This study aimed to assess the awareness level of internal and external stakeholders’ participation in the implementation of sustainable school programs and projects, input to effective stakeholders’ management. This paper used descriptive-correlational research designed. There were 1,198 respondents, were female, high school level, age 11-15 years old, and occupation belong to stay at home parent, unemployed, students, retired. Stakeholders perceived the level of awareness was “moderate” while they “agreed” with stakeholders’ management plan and “much effective” on the implementation of sustainable school programs and projects. This study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the awareness level of both internal and external stakeholders’ participation as well as the stakeholders’ management plan to the sustainability of school programs and projects. There is a significant difference between the awareness level of internal and external stakeholders’ participation and their perceived level of implementation to sustain the school programs and projects. The stakeholders’ management plan also predict that it has a significant effect on the awareness of stakeholders’ participation and the sustainability of school programs and projects
Millennial Dance Craze for The Well-Being of Teachers: A Multiple Case Study
Get PDFThis study was designed to determine the impact of secondary school teachers\u27 engagement with the millennial dance craze on their teaching and their well-being. Observing teachers\u27 coping mechanisms and factors on fitness, increasing workload demands while having active leisure and social connections, and promoting the importance of teachers\u27 physical and mental well-being motivated the researcher to pursue the investigation on the secondary school teachers\u27 engagement with the millennial dance craze. Qualitative procedures were employed in this case study. Results revealed that secondary teachers\u27 participation in the millennial dance craze is essential since it demonstrates personal explorations and transformation as reflected from their assessment on how their engagement with the millennial dance craze have affected them. As a result, they come to value the millennial dancing craze, which aids teachers\u27 emotional and social development as well as their physical and mental health by allowing them to explore other aspects of life. It is advised that secondary level teachers take part in all types of dances, not just millennial dances, as this will give them the chance to be active, boost their confidence, and learn other important life lessons
Exploration Study of Contemporary Batik Motif at The Handayani Community Learning Center Kemirian Village Tamanan District Bondowoso Regency

PKBM handayani is a non-formal educational institution and also known as a batik business that produces written batik, stamped batik, and semi batik. This study aims to identified any typical Motif of contemporary batik Bondowoso whose produced by PKBM Handayani. This research was using a qualitative descriptive approach with observation, interviews, and documentation both offline and online as the data collection techniques. The result for this research are the identification of nine Motifs of batik which consist by the classification of ornaments and colors, and also the symbols and meanings contained in the Motifs. This research also shows that the role of Bondowoso Regency government has been held well in the development of PKBM Handayani implemented as a facilitator, motivator, and catalyst. The researcher hopes that through this research, PKBM Handayani can be recognized and being widely known by the wider community and also increase its sales and their business development
Psychosocial Support for Grade 3 Pupils Through Artistry in Music Featuring Ukulele Lesson
Get PDFThe use of ukulele in school setting is becoming popular and its integration during classes is increasing in popularity. Because of this, it is significant and timely that this type of music be involved among learners of all ages. The consideration of providing support for mental and psychosocial well-being among the students during the past pandemic was deemed necessary. In this innovative work plan study, experimental-purposive approach was used in implementing the program. Integrating music in classes increases primary students\u27 class involvement and engagement in school activities. Thus, the researcher introduced the Ukulele lesson to the Grade 3 pupils and tried to look into the effect of its integration to the pupils’ psychosocial development and academic performance. The participants were thirty-eight pupils (38) and eleven (11) MAPEH teachers for the school year 2022-2023 enrolled in an Integrated School in Pangasinan. The results revealed that there is an increase in the level of academic performance of the Grade 3 pupils who were exposed to ukulele lessons as an intervention program focusing on psychosocial support. The elementary teachers were also able to maintain classroom cohesiveness and increased pupils’ class participation. The noise from unnecessary talking and shouting or even playing inside the classroom were minimized. This is one proof that music is a great stress-relieving tool that helps to calm the mind and enhance concentration among pupils and teachers
