Training Success Factors in The Coast Guard Special Operations Course
The Coast Guard Special Operations Course has experienced a 33% dropout rates covering training program from 2018 to 2024, highlighting the need to identify the underlying factors contributing to trainee success or failure. This mixed-methods study utilized a concurrent triangulation design to examine these factors comprehensively. Quantitative data were collected from 243 respondents who successfully completed the CGSOC training from 2018 until August 2024. The analysis, conducted using Exploratory Factor Analysis, revealed five key dimensions influencing training success: (1) Career Advancement and Personal Motivation, (2) Training Environment and Support, (3) Training Facility and Resource Adequacy, (4) Family Support and Guidance, and (5) Family Concerns and Peer Support. Concurrently, qualitative data were gathered through in-depth interviews with five participants who did not complete the training, which provided additional context and in-depth understanding of the challenges trainees face. The study found that trainees’ intrinsic motivation, a supportive training environment, and robust family and peer support are crucial for their success. On the other hand, challenges such as homesickness, financial difficulties, and inadequate preparation were identified as major obstacles that contribute to attrition. These findings emphasize the need for targeted interventions to optimize training retention and outcomes. The results suggest that fostering mentorship and peer support systems could mitigate the negative impacts of these challenges, thereby improving completion rates. Future research may explore the role of structured peer mentorship and family engagement strategies in high-stress law enforcement training environments
Physics Teachers’ Competence and Extent of Use of Laboratory Approaches
Science education is vital for developing students\u27 critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and scientific literacy. Effective scientific training relies on both theoretical instruction and hands-on experience using laboratory equipment. Laboratories serve as essential instructional environments where students explore scientific principles, conduct experiments, and apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations. The efficient utilization of laboratory equipment predominantly depends on the expertise of science educators in administering and integrating these resources into their instruction. Hence, a descriptive-correlational research approach was conducted to determine the knowledge and skill competence of public school teachers in the Schools Division of Ilocos Norte. Using a researcher-made survey questionnaire, it was revealed that the respondents have very high competence when it comes to laboratory instruction. With a positive correlation, the results revealed that teachers with high competence in laboratory techniques, equipment handling, and experiment facilitation are more likely to integrate laboratory activities into their teaching, fostering active learning and scientific inquiry among students. The study emphasizes the importance of continuous professional development and skills training to maximize the use of laboratory resources. Thus, Schools should invest in training programs and provide adequate facilities to ensure teachers can effectively implement laboratory-based instruction, enhancing instructional effectiveness and student engagement in science learning

Beyond Canon: How X Platform\u27s AU Fanfiction Engagement Influences Filipino Gen Z Self-Concept and Well-being
Fanfiction has emerged as a significant digital reading and storytelling platform, particularly Alternate Universe (AU) fanfiction on X. This study examined the relationship between AU fanfiction engagement, self-concept, and well-being among Filipino Gen Z readers. Using a quantitative-correlational design, data were collected from 150 participants aged 18-27 (M =Enga 21.3, SD = 2.4) through an online survey. Respondents were selected using purposive non-probability sampling to identify active fanfiction community members. Standardized instruments included the Reading Flow Short Scale, Tennessee Self-Concept Scale, and BBC Well-Being Scale. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to analyze the data. Findings revealed high engagement with AU fanfiction, particularly in time spent and emotional immersion (Mdn = 5.5, IQR = 1.2). Self-concept scores were strongest in moral (Mdn = 4.25, IQR = 0.75) and social dimensions (Mdn = 4.0, IQR = 0.83), while personal self-concept, including self-satisfaction and confidence, were comparatively lower (Mdn = 3.2, IQR = 1.1). Well-being assessment highlighted strengths in social (Mdn = 3.83, IQR = 0.92) and psychological aspects (Mdn = 3.88, IQR = 0.76) but weaknesses in physical health (Mdn = 3.25, IQR = 1.05), particularly sleep quality. The Spearman Rho correlation results indicated minimal direct relationships between fanfiction engagement and self-concept (r = 0.053, p = .519, 95% CI [-0.107, 0.211]) and well-being (r = -0.038, p = .644, 95% CI [-0.197, 0.123]), suggesting that engagement alone does not significantly shape these aspects. Regression analysis further supported these findings, showing a minimal positive impact on self-concept (β = 0.039) and a minimal negative impact on well-being (β = -0.038). These results highlight the complexity of fanfiction\u27s influence on self-concept and well-being, demonstrating the need for more nuanced research examining potential mediating and moderating variables within this relationship
