A Correlation Analysis between Weather Conditions and Stock Market Prices in the Philippines
This study examines the relationship between weather conditions and stock market performance in the Philippines, a tropical country characterized by high temperature variability and an active financial market. The research addresses a gap in local empirical studies exploring whether daily temperature fluctuations affect market behavior. Using a quantitative correlational design, the study analyzed annual data from 2014 to 2023 on minimum and maximum temperatures (sourced from PAGASA) and Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) values (sourced from Yahoo Finance). The data were analyzed using SPSS, employing the Pearson correlation coefficient with a significance level of 0.05. Results revealed a weak positive correlation between maximum temperature and stock prices (r = 0.35, p = 0.3261) and a moderate negative correlation between minimum temperature and stock prices (r = –0.47, p = 0.1664), both of which were statistically insignificant. These findings suggest that temperature variations do not meaningfully predict stock market movements in the Philippine context. The study concludes that market fluctuations are primarily driven by macroeconomic and global factors rather than weather-related sentiment. It recommends that investors rely on technical and fundamental analyses instead of climate-based speculation.
Mapping the Path: Tracing Teacher Career Trajectories Towards Professional Teaching Standards
In the dynamic landscape of education, the quality of teaching remains a fundamental determinant of student success. Understanding teachers’ competence across multiple professional domains not only highlights their strengths but also identifies gaps that may limit instructional effectiveness and student learning outcomes. This study aims to examine the competence of public school teachers in the Philippines across the seven domains of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), with the goal of identifying both areas of excellence and opportunities for professional growth. Employing a descriptive cross-sectional research design, the study surveyed 300 teachers from a range of large and small public secondary schools in Palawan, Philippines. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire aligned with the seven PPST domains and analyzed using mean scores to determine the levels of teacher competence. Results indicate that teachers generally demonstrate high to very high competence, with particular strengths observed in content mastery, classroom management, and professional commitment. Conversely, lower ratings were noted in domains such as differentiated instruction, actively seeking feedback, and implementing innovative teaching practices, signalling the need for targeted interventions. These findings underscore the importance of focused professional development programs that address specific areas of need, thereby fostering a more balanced, effective, and innovative teaching workforce. By addressing these gaps, policymakers and educational leaders can enhance teaching quality, ultimately supporting improved student learning outcomes and advancing the overall standards of Philippine public education
Factors Influencing School Development and Student Enrollment: A Case Study of Santa Maria 1 Senior High School, Cirebon
This study analyses the internal and external factors influencing school development and student enrollment at Santa Maria 1 Senior High School, Cirebon. Student numbers have fluctuated in the past five years, showing the need for institutional improvement. This research adopts a qualitative method, applying the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) technique to identify the root of the problem and formulate appropriate development strategies. The data for this study were obtained through in-depth interviews with various stakeholders, including the foundation, principal, teachers, students, alumni, and parents. The results of this study indicate that school development and the increasing number of students are influenced by a combination of internal factors such as the quality of education program, leadership system, facilities, and the school image, as well as external factors that covered the economic conditions of the community, public perception, and competition with other schools. The root cause includes a lack of innovation in learning programs, promotion strategies were insufficient, and the misalignment of school values with community expectations. This study suggests the need for increased innovative learning programs, maximizing the strategic digital promotion, strengthening the school image, and involvement from active stakeholders to raise the competitiveness and the number of students sustainably
Fuel Consumption Efficiency in Construction Equipment Operations: A Mixed Methods Analysis of Determinants and Practices
This study examines the key factors affecting fuel consumption efficiency in construction equipment operations. Using a mixed methods approach, it combines quantitative regression analysis with qualitative interviews of equipment operators. A survey was conducted to gather data on operator behavior, equipment maintenance, equipment condition, worksite environment, and operator experience and training. Regression results showed that among these factors, only operator experience and training significantly predicted fuel efficiency, with R² = .31. Other variables, such as operator behavior, maintenance practices, equipment condition, and worksite environment, were not statistically significant predictors. Qualitative interviews supported these findings. Operators emphasized the importance of situational awareness, experience, and task-specific adjustments in saving fuel. Common strategies included managing engine RPM according to workload, shutting down equipment during idle periods, and using neutral gear on downhill slopes when safe. These practices rely more on operator judgment than on technical specifications. While maintenance, equipment condition, and environmental factors were frequently mentioned, their influence appears indirect or context-dependent. This suggests that technical improvements alone are insufficient without skilled operator input. The study concludes that operator training and experience, play a central role in fuel efficiency. It recommends that construction firms invest in targeted training and behavior-based monitoring to promote sustainable and efficient equipment use
Utilization of Capital Budgeting Techniques and Their Impact on the Financial Stability of Manufacturing Firms in Bulan, Sorsogon
This study examines the utilization of capital budgeting techniques and their impact on the financial stability of manufacturing firms in Bulan, Sorsogon. It focuses on how decision-making tools such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Period (PBP) shape financial outcomes in terms of liquidity, solvency, and equity strength.
Findings show that manufacturing firms rely heavily on the Payback Period, while the application of more advanced methods like NPV and IRR remains limited. Although businesses demonstrate fair liquidity and solvency, their financial structures are highly debt-dependent, exposing them to long-term risks. Regression analysis confirmed that firms using advanced techniques achieve stronger financial stability, while those dependent on simple payback evaluations are more vulnerable to short-term pressures and weaker growth prospects.
The study highlights the need for strengthening equity financing, enhancing financial literacy, and adopting sophisticated capital budgeting methods to improve long-term stability. By providing empirical evidence from a local manufacturing context, this research contributes to both practice and scholarship, underscoring that advanced capital budgeting tools not only optimize investment decisions but also safeguard firms against financial vulnerability
Research Extension Initiatives as Drivers of Women’s Empowerment the Mediating Role of Gender Mainstreaming for Advancing the SDG Agenda 2030 in State Universities and Colleges in Quezon Province
Research extension initiatives are central to the mandate of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines, yet their contributions to women’s empowerment and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remain underexamined. Existing literature emphasizes the importance of gender-responsive community programs but provides limited evidence on how gender mainstreaming mediates the link between extension projects and empowerment outcomes. Addressing this gap, this study investigates how SUC-led research extension initiatives drive women’s empowerment in Quezon Province, with gender mainstreaming as a mediating mechanism for advancing the SDG Agenda 2030. This study examines the role of SUC-led research extension initiatives as drivers of women’s empowerment, with gender mainstreaming analyzed as a mediating factor for advancing the SDG Agenda 2030. A mixed-methods design was employed, combining survey responses from 125 women beneficiaries with focus group discussions and key informant interviews involving SUC faculty coordinators, administrators, and community leaders. Findings reveal that extension initiatives significantly enhanced women’s empowerment by improving livelihood opportunities, leadership participation, and decision-making capacity. Importantly, projects that integrated gender-sensitive planning, training, and monitoring reported stronger empowerment outcomes than those where gender concerns were treated as secondary. Challenges included workload imbalances, limited institutional incentives, and fragmented sustainability reporting frameworks, which constrained the visibility of women faculty’s contributions. The study concludes that gender mainstreaming transforms extension initiatives into vehicles for equity and empowerment. By embedding gender-responsive strategies, SUCs can strengthen their dual role in advancing academic innovation and inclusive community development, offering a replicable model for achieving SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and related goals
Factors Influencing School Preference: Mapping the Student Market
The study aimed to explore the students’ insights by examining the factors that influence their school preference and overall experience during the enrollment process. The study utilized a descriptive-quantitative research method employing survey research to analyze the perspectives of incoming college students. The participants of the study were all admitted students for the school year 2024-2025 at Baliuag University, Baliwag City, Bulacan. Specifically, the study employed a nonprobability sampling technique known as purposive sampling. A total of 707 respondents were involved in the conduct of the investigation, which comprised the total number of students who answered the survey questionnaire. The students’ school preference, based on the results of the study, spans factors not limited to advertising strategies. With friends’ and relatives’ recommendations being the most influential, this underscored the importance of the respondents’ social groups in choosing their university for higher education pursuits. Along with this factor are programs offered, academic excellence/quality education, mode of transportation being tricycle, sportsfest, and learning modality preferred as face-to-face classes. Further, the outstanding enrollment process satisfaction results also indicated that the institution should continuously maintain its current operational techniques as well as its openness to feedback, as service quality proved to be fundamental in how students perceive higher education institutions. The findings of the study served as a basis for targeted recommendations aimed at continuously improving university positioning in the student market, proactively responding to evolving student preferences, and ensuring relevance in the highly competitive Philippine higher education institution academic landscape
Successful Aging and Quality of Life among Filipino LGBT Older Adults: The Moderating Role of Resilience
The critical role that successful aging has played on human beings to living fulfilling and meaningful lives in the midst of trials and tribulations is fast becoming noticeable. Nonetheless, there seems to be an undeniable gap in prior studies that investigates at what constitutes successful aging amongst adults in the LGBT spectrum, not to mention in the Philippine setting with its own particular cultural and social milieu. The study at hand explores the connection between successful aging and quality of life and to see whether resilience moderates such relationship amongst older adults in the LGBT group. Data were gathered from 164 respondents aged 55 and above through convenience sampling. Open-access instruments were used for this study including the Successful Aging Scale, the WHO Quality of Life–BREF (Filipino version), and the Brief Resilience Scale. Correlation and regression analyses were then performed in the study. Results showed a significant positive correlation between successful aging and quality of life (r = 0.55, p < 0.0001). Furthermore, moderation analysis revealed that resilience enhanced this relationship (b = 0.14, SE = 0.04, p = 0.0005). This shows the significant role of resilience as an important psychological resource that improves the favorable and positive impact of successful aging towards quality of life on Filipino LGBT older individuals
