ABSTRACT   The increasing generation of paper waste presents significant environmental challenges. Vermicomposting offers a sustainable means of recycling biodegradable materials through earthworm activity. This study evaluated the growth, reproduction and vermicompost yield of the African Night Crawler (Eudrilus eugeniae) cultured on various paper waste substrates combined with manure. A Completely Randomized Design with six treatments and four replications was used: swine manure (control) and cow manure mixed with clean bond, used bond, notebook, carton, and newspaper wastes. Data on Eudrilus eugeniae proliferation, egg production, biomass, vermicompost yield, unconsumed substrate, and percent recovery were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD test at 5% significance (p < 0.05). Results showed that combining cow manure with paper wastes significantly improved E. eugeniae performance compared to the swine manure control(T1). E. eugeniae number increased from 112.25 (T1) to 808 (T5), egg production from 8.25 (T1) to 486 (T4), and vermicompost yield from 375 g (T1) to 1925 g (T4). Percent recovery peaked at 96.25% in T4, while unconsumed substrate was lowest (187.5 g). The carton and cow manure and newspaper and cow manure combinations yielded the best results, confirming their suitability as effective substrates for vermicomposting. The study concludes that cow manure-based mixtures, particularly with carton or used bond paper, provide optimal conditions for E. eugeniae and produce high-quality vermicompost. These findings highlight vermicomposting as a dual strategy for waste reduction and soil fertility improvement

The study aimed to address the influence of cryptocurrency on contemporary kidnapping for ransom in the cities of Pasay and Paraňaque as assessed by anti-kidnapping group personnel towards the development of a strategic proposal to combat kid-napping in the digital landscape. This research employed a quantitative-descriptive methodol-ogy, utilizing stratified random sampling as the research design to carefully select respondents from the PNP office Anti-Kidnapping Group. A total of twenty (20) survey questionnaires will be distributed to gather data on the evaluation of PNP per-sonnel regarding the role of cryptocurrencies in contemporary kidnapping for ransom, particularly in relation to investigation, negotiation, and operations. The study\u27s findings indicate that: The Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) should improve educational programs and strategies to address kidnapping for ransom. Mandatory training on proposed initia-tives will be necessary for the PNP AKG. Additionally, the PNP AKG will oversee security in Pasay and Paranaque, and the BSP is actively monitoring developments in virtual currency, particular-ly regarding their potential use in money laundering and other illicit activities, and will take appropriate action as needed. The findings emphasized that strong regulation, including the Anti-Fraudulent Activities in Financial Accounts Act (AFASA) and the suggested amendments to the Bank Secrecy Act, are es-sential and long overdue. The BSP and other regulatory authori-ties in the Philippines must actively oversee cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, the PNP AKG and ACG necessitate revised tech-niques to proficiently obstruct blockchain technology from ena-bling cross-border bitcoin transactions

    No full text
The pandemic caused by the spread of Coronavirus had brought sig-nificant changes to academic institutions. One notable change is the reliance to technology in conducting online synchronous class in the form of video-conferencing. The changes brought about by the pan-demic have been accompanied by a rise in different psychological issues such as anxiety. Given that most studies conducted in the Phil-ippines focus on the effects of COVID-19 on college students’ learning processes and mental health, further exploration is needed to better understand students’ experiences with video conferencing platforms in online synchronous classes. To achieve the purpose of the study, phenomenological approach and applied interpretative phenomeno-logical analysis were utilized. The findings revealed four main themes: on the use of technology, intrapersonal awareness of anxiety, interpersonal awareness of anxiety, and on coping with anxiety. These findings are valuable for academic institutions in developing policies to manage students’ anxiety related to videoconferencing. Academic institutions are encouraged to go beyond focusing solely on the academic outcomes of the students and revisit traditional frame-works and integrate mental health considerations. Development and validation of psychometric instruments to accurately measure video-conferencing-related anxiety is recommended. Conducting meta-analyses of existing research can help identify patterns and underly-ing factors influencing student anxiety in virtual learning environ-ments
