Improving Science Learning Outcomes Through Stratetic Intervention Materials: A Contextualized Approach for Grade 6 Learners
A study aimed to develop a Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) in science for Grade 6 learners at Tungao Central Elementary School. Observations showed that many students struggled with core science concepts, specifically differentiating between solutes and solvents, describing suspensions, and understanding mixture separation methods such as decantation and the use of magnets.
Student performance on first-quarter science tests was evaluated, with 91 learners participating. Two experts assessed the SIMs for quality, accuracy, relevance, and contextualization, leading to refinements. The developed SIMs include guide cards, activity cards, assessment cards, enrichment activities, reference cards, and answer keys.
Results highlight the crucial need for context-specific educational interventions to address learning deficits in science. Incorporating contextually relevant materials can significantly enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes. The contextualized SIMs offer a practical solution for improving student comprehension and performance in challenging scientific concepts, thereby contributing to more effective teaching and learning strategies within the local educational context
From Cash In to Out of Cash: The Horror, Coping, and Hope of 2019 Ponzi Investment Scam Victims
This descriptive qualitative study looked into the experiences of scam investment victims in South Cotabato during 2019. Eight (8) participants who had partaken in investment fraud with a minimum age of 22 were selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis of Braun and Clarke (2006) to further understand the victim’s experiences in scam investment. In accordance with the research protocols, researchers made sure that the victims were not forced to partake in the study and their identity is confidential. Findings revealed that victims were mostly lured due to the high-return promises and framing effects. Social influence also further fuelled their desire to take part in the investment as their trusted friends and family members have shown successful gains. Fraudsters have also provided perceived legitimate evidence through mentions of registered permits. The emotional impact included disappointment, regret, and a sense of betrayal. The victim’s coping mechanisms involved optimization of resources, diverting loss to productivity, and developing a positive growth mindset, finding emotional support and optimizing strategies for them to eventually recover their losses. This study emphasized the importance of the critical need for financial literacy education, particularly regarding high-risk investments. Highlighting the importance of critical evaluation and due diligence in investment decisions. Furthermore, the government and non-state institutions, such as cooperatives and banks, initiate promoting financial awareness within communities, which are crucial to mitigating the risks of investment scams and empowering individuals to make sound decisions.

The Extent of Implementation of The Local Government Unit of RA 9262 in Eliminating Violence Against Women and Children in the National Capital Region
This study examined the gender sensitivity of the Philippine government’s response during a public health crisis, with a particular emphasis on the viewpoints of local government units (LGUs) and their stakeholders. The study aimed to analyze the challenges and opportunities encountered by LGUs in maintaining gender-responsive services during these periods. The study sought to align the national policy framework with the realities of its implementation, emphasizing effective and scalable practices that could guide future rights-based and gender-sensitive approaches, particularly in decentralized governance systems frequently neglected during biological emergencies.
The study employed a descriptive comparative research design, collecting data via surveys directed at four primary government offices: the Rural Health Unit (RHU), City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Barangay officials. Participants were selected using stratified random sampling, resulting in a total of 135 individuals. The primary instrument employed was a questionnaire modified from Alincastre and Dalugdog (2022), with results analyzed through weighted mean and one-way ANOVA.
The results indicated that most respondents were college-educated women aged 31 to 40, the majority of whom had participated in training or seminars concerning the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act, or Republic Act 9262. A significant number exhibited a comprehensive understanding of the law, encompassing case filing procedures, the associated legal mechanisms, and the penalties applicable to offenders. The study identified deficiencies at the Barangay level, specifically in proper documentation, case management, and the issuance of Barangay Protection Orders. These issues indicate the necessity for a more organized and adequately supported system.
The researcher proposed a policy enhancement through a joint memorandum circular issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Health (DOH), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to address these challenges. This would enable Barangays to execute their responsibilities under RA 9262 with greater efficacy.
The research highlighted the essential importance of collaboration among agencies. A multi-disciplinary team comprising investigators (PNP), social workers (DSWD), health officers, medico-legal professionals, and local councils (e.g., Barangay Council for the Protection of Children) should collaborate to deliver comprehensive services. These encompass health care, psychological and educational support, legal assistance, and safety services for women and children. Furthermore, training programs and seminars must persist in promoting awareness and tackling gender-based discrimination and human rights violations.
Economic empowerment is recognized as a vital strategy. Collaborating with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), barangays ought to endorse livelihood programs that enhance women\u27s involvement in local economic activities, thereby mitigating their vulnerability. Simultaneously, prioritizing the promotion of a culture of women\u27s safety in public spaces is essential.
The study emphasized the necessity of establishing mechanisms for victims of rights violations, including access to protection orders, assistance in filing cases, and the collection of essential documents for prosecuting offenders. Annual training programs on the VAWC law should be conducted for LGUs in partnership with the Women and Children Protection Desk of the PNP, with enhanced seminars emphasizing the proper issuance and management of Barangay Protection Orders.
The study concluded with a recommendation for additional research. Future research should incorporate a wider array of external stakeholders and utilize a qualitative methodology to enhance comprehension of the intricate realities present in the field
Sleep and Emotion Regulation among Filipino College Students
This study examined the relationship between sleep quality and quantity and emotion regulation strategies among 281 college students from a college of the University of the Philippines Los Banos. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire that included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). Findings indicated that participants had an average of 7.04 hours of sleep, considered sufficient in quantity, but poor in quality (mean PSQI = 8.20). Most students used cognitive reappraisal more frequently than expressive suppression. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that better sleep quality and quantity were generally associated with increased use of cognitive reappraisal. The findings underscore the need to support students’ sleep health and promote adaptive emotion regulation strategies to enhance overall well-being
Code-Switching and Grammar: A Bibliometric Analysis on How Bilingual Students Use English Syntax in Writing
This study investigates how bilingual students employ English syntax in writing through the lens of code-switching. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using Scopus-indexed articles from 2013 to 2023, employing tools like VOSviewer and NVivo to map trends and themes. Results indicate that code-switching enhances grammatical development by fostering metalinguistic awareness, cognitive flexibility, and rhetorical strategy, though concerns remain about its impact on adherence to standard grammar norms in academic writing. Four major thematic clusters were identified: translanguaging pedagogy, biliteracy development, sociocultural identity, and discourse-based grammar instruction. The findings can inform educators and curriculum developers on the syntactic challenges and patterns in bilingual writing and act upon it through authorships of school’s language teaching policies. This is the first bibliometric study to systematically examine the intersection of code-switching and English grammar in the academic writing of bilingual students, offering both theoretical and pedagogical contributions to multilingual education
The Power of Food Vloggers: A Marketing Perspective on Business Growth and Sales Expansion
Social media marketing is a powerful tool for businesses to connect with customers, and one form of this strategy is vlogging, as it offers engaging content that persuades people to try promoted products. This mixed-method research investigates the effectiveness of food vlogging as a social media marketing strategy in improving sales and profitability. Using paired sample t-tests, the study found a significant increase in sales after the adoption of food vlogging, confirming its impact as a sales-driving tool. However, there was no statistically significant improvement in profitability, indicating that increased sales did not directly translate to higher profit margins. Customer feedback revealed that most were persuaded by food vloggers to try featured products, demonstrating strong influencer impact on purchasing decisions. The marketing manager viewed food vlogging positively but emphasized the need for thorough planning and evaluation before implementation. While food vlogging enhances brand visibility and customer reach, businesses must address challenges like inconsistent viewer engagement and high collaboration costs. To maximize return on investment, the study recommends partnering with influencers who match the target audience and focusing on cost-per-action rather than cost-per-view performance metrics
Enhancing Grade 11 Students’ Academic Performance in Statistics and Probability Through Magnified Math Solutions Strategy: A Classroom-Based Action Research (Statistics and Probability)
The poor academic performance in Statistics and Probability has been one of the significant challenges in teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially under modular distance learning. This action research aimed to improve the academic performance of Grade 11 TVL ICT-CSS learners at Kinan-oan High School, Trinidad II District, through the Magnified Math Solutions Strategy during School Year 2021–2022. The strategy was designed to enhance learners’ metacognitive skills by using a Learning Progress-Inquiry Form to gather self-assessments and specific learning inquiries. These inputs guided the creation of detailed math solutions and differentiated supplementary activities tailored to students\u27 individual learning needs. Twenty-seven (27) learners participated in the study. A comparative analysis of their academic performance before and after the intervention revealed an improvement: learners classified as Fairly Satisfactory decreased from eleven (11) to three (3). The mean academic performance increased from 81.70% to 86.26%, showing a 4.56% gain. A paired sample t-test yielded a t-statistic of 37.54 and a p-value of < .001, indicating a statistically significant difference in learners’ performance before and after the intervention. The findings suggest that the Magnified Math Solutions Strategy is effective in improving academic performance in Statistics and Probability by promoting metacognition, differentiated instruction, and self-directed learning. However, since the study was conducted during modular distance learning with a small sample size, further research is recommended to validate its effectiveness in face-to-face settings and across more diverse learner populations
Experiences of Neophyte Barangay Councilors: A Phenomenological Study
Effective leadership at the barangay level is essential for responsive and inclusive local governance, yet neophyte barangay councilors often face a steep learning curve as they transition into public service roles. This study explored the experiences of neophyte barangay councilors in a municipality in Zamboanga del Sur. It utilized a qualitative approach and followed a phenomenological research design, employing a semi-structured interview guide in conducting in-depth interview with seven neophyte barangay councilors as participants of this study. Data were analyzed using Moustakas’ thematic analysis method. Moustakas thematic analysis is a method used to explore and interpret the lived experiences of individuals to uncover the essence of a phenomenon. This study identified four themes: bridging idealism with reality facing the challenging yet fulfilling journey of new barangay councilors, navigating leadership with limited preparation, support, and resources, and harnessing collective wisdom and collaborative network for effective leadership. The findings further reveal that newly elected officials often enter office with enthusiasm and idealism but are quickly confronted with the complexities of local governance resulting in uncertainty, administrative difficulties, and diminished confidence, especially in handling technical tasks such as drafting ordinances. It is recommended that the Department of Interior and Local Government may develop a training program targeted at neophyte barangay officials with practical workshops on legislative drafting, and project planning, as well as simulations on handling real-life governance issues

2D and 360° Images: Enhancing Interest and Performance Tasks in Con-temporary Arts
Contemporary Philippine arts in senior high schools demands innovative approaches to engage students meaningfully. Although virtual reality and 360º videos have been explored in educational settings, limited research has investigated the impact of 360-degree photos, particularly in the context of Philippine Contemporary Arts education. This study addresses this gap by examining the effectiveness of semi-immersive imagery in enhancing student learning. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of 2D and 360-degree images in improving the learning interest and performance tasks of Grade 12 students in Philippine Contemporary Arts. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving a control group exposed to traditional 2D images and an experimental group using 360-degree images. Data were collected using pre-tests, post-tests survey which were validated instrument that measured four indicators of learning interest: pleasure, attention, interest, and engagement. Findings revealed that students in the 360-degree group demonstrated significantly higher post-test scores and stronger learning interest across all indicators (p < 0.05) compared to the 2D group. Moreover, their performance tasks showed greater improvement, with mean scores increasing from 13.00 ("Good") to 16.00 ("Excellent"). Outputs from the 360-degree group reflected enhanced creativity, spatial awareness, and curatorial thinking. In contrast, the 2D group’s work, while technically accurate, less imaginative in depth and showed limited growth. The study affirms the effectiveness of 360-degree photo integration in fostering both cognitive and affective learning outcomes in art education. However, the study is limited in scope, as it involved only one public high school, a specific subject (Contemporary Arts), and a relatively small sample size. Additionally, the intervention period was brief, and long-term retention and applicability across different disciplines were not explored. Despite these limitations, the findings provide valuable insights into the use of 360-degree imagery as an accessible and engaging tool for enhancing arts instruction in the Philippine senior high school context
