Filipino Libang: University Student’s Leisure Ecology

    No full text
This mixed-methods study defined the leisure ecology of Filipino university students through exploration of their leisure motivation, leisure satisfaction, and happiness through their leisure pursuits. Data were collected using surveys, while quantitative analysis utilized Factor Analysis to define motivation and satisfaction factors alongside a standardized happiness measure. Factor analysis revealed that the students’ leisure ecology is primarily oriented toward competence, relaxation, and the cultural pursuit of ligaya (deep, lasting happiness). Despite high leisure motivation and leisure satisfaction being significantly correlated (r>0.60), their correlation with the standardized happiness measure was low (r=0.20), suggesting ligaya is gained through distinct, culturally embedded pathways, while significant gender differences emerged in specific motivational and satisfaction factors (p<0.05). This study also identified specific cultural components such as libang (soulful easing through carefree amusement), kapwa (shared inner self), and barkada (chosen peer circle) as profound mechanics of this unique leisure ecology. These findings underscore the local culture’s influence on leisure, giving insights for cultivating well-being among Filipino university students

    No full text
This study explored the career trajectories and employability of 41 Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Physical Science graduates from Isabela State University-Cauayan Campus, focusing on those who completed their studies between 2017 and 2019. Using a descriptive survey approach, data were gathered from 41 graduates through a structured questionnaire. The results indicate that most graduates were young, single women from rural, low-income backgrounds in Isabela. Despite these socioeconomic hurdles, a notable 78.04% successfully entered the teaching field by passing the licensure exam. Graduates reported high satisfaction with the knowledge and skills gained from the program, especially in areas such as accommodating diverse learners and engaging in reflective teaching practices. However, there is a need to enhance basic skills such as literacy, communication, and critical thinking. The choice of educational institution and program was largely influenced by cost-effectiveness and employment opportunities in the field. Employment statistics show that while most graduates found jobs related to their degrees, challenges remained concerning job security, income, and alignment with career aspirations. Only a small fraction pursued further education for career progression purposes. This study underscores the necessity for ongoing curriculum development, enhanced career support services, targeted socioeconomic programs, and regular alumni feedback to boost graduate readiness and adaptability in the changing job market. These findings provide valuable insights for educational stakeholders to align programs with community needs and broader industry trends, thereby improving the success of BSEd Physical Science graduates in teaching and related fields

Standardizing Qualifications and Criteria for the Selection, Certification, and Evaluation of Philippine Coast Guard K9 Handlers’ Instructors

    No full text
This study examines the current qualifications of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) K9 Instructors in terms of eligibility, educational background, professional experience, rank, and training, and explores perspectives from select K9 instructors and officers of the PCG K9 Training Center on the required competencies specific to K9 instructors and the existing evaluation practices. Findings reveal that current tools for evaluation rely on generic measures and fall short in assessing behavioral competencies such as technical skills, kennel management, scenario-based training, and ethical handling of dogs. Similarly, feedback in the tool is a one-way process and is incapable of utilizing the results for the development of practice. These gaps risk mismatched qualifications, reduced instructional effectiveness, and negative impacts on student learning and ultimately on operational goals such as public safety, order, and trust.  Moreover, this study highlights the best practices of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Philippine Army (PA), and two private K9 providers in their K9 Instructors, handler training, selection, and evaluation.  Based on these insights, the study proposes a standardized and systematized framework for selection, certification, and evaluation of PCG K9 Instructors, along with an enhanced performance tool. The findings aim to inform future improvements in PCG K9 curriculum and training standards

    No full text
Using Kirkpatrick\u27s Four-Level Evaluation Model of reaction, learning, behavior, and results, this study investigates how students view English assessment in the Indonesian Merdeka Curriculum. This study involved 41 high school students who answered a valid and reliable Likert scale questionnaire, using a quantitative descriptive design. Students\u27 perceptions were generally positive, according to descriptive statistical analysis conducted using SPSS 26. Most students acknowledged that the assessment was fair, relevant to classroom learning, and motivating. In addition, students reported behavioral changes such as increased classroom participation, but they experienced improvements in learning, especially in vocabulary and confidence. Although some students remained neutral, students said that the assessment helped their overall language development. The clarity of instructions, adequacy of time, and comfort during the assessment were also issues. These results indicate that, although the Merdeka Curriculum assessment method is in line with basic principles, some elements of practice need to be improved in order to optimize students\u27 learning experiences and learning outcomes

Cross-Attention Multimodal Transformer for Calibrated Binary Time-Series Forecasting of Rural Public Services

    No full text
Good governance, evidence-based planning, and sustainable rural development all rely on correct rural public service performance predictions. This study presents a Cross-Attention Multimodal Transformer developed for binary time-series classification of service conditions in the areas of agriculture, health, and environment at the level of the local government unit (LGU). Using bidirectional cross-attention layers, the model mixes several temporal signals so that healthcare and agriculture-environment streams can interact with one another. Using weighted uncertainty and calibration-awareness in a loss function helps to guarantee that the confidence scores are properly calibrated. With AUCs of 83.00% (agriculture), 79.40% (environment), and 63.90% (healthcare), which is lower, experimental results on a rural public service dataset indicate great discriminative and calibration performance. With 61.50%, 23.10%, and 18.90% respectively, the Brier scores suggest that the forecasts for health care and the environment are well calibrated. These findings suggest that cross-attention multimodal transformers may be quite useful in producing precise binary predictions of rural service results. At the LGU level, this would enable data-driven decision-making support
