Improving the Performance of Low-resourced Speaker Identification with Data Preprocessing
Automatic speaker identification is done to tackle daily security problems. Speech data collection is an essential but very challenging task for under-resourced languages like Burmese. The speech quality is crucial to accurately recognize the speaker’s identity. This work attempted to find the optimal speech quality appropriate for Burmese tone to enhance identification compared with other more richy resourced languages on Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs). A Burmese speech dataset was created as part of our work because no appropriate dataset available for use. In order to achieve better performance, we preprocessed the foremost recording quality proper for not only Burmese tone but also for nine other Asian languages to achieve multilingual speaker identification. The performance of the preprocessed data was evaluated by comparing with the original data, using a time delay neural network (TDNN) together with a subsampling technique that can reduce time complexity in model training. The experiments were investigated and analyzed on speech datasets of ten Asian languages to reveal the effectiveness of the data preprocessing. The dataset outperformed the original dataset with improvements in terms of equal error rate (EER). The evaluation pointed out that the performance of the system with the preprocessed dataset improved that of the original dataset
Profile and Operations of Highway Tourist Stop-over Foodservice Establishments in Uganda
ABSTRACT
This study was set out to identify and document the highway tourist stop-over foodservice establishments (HTSFE) characteristics; thus, creating a profile and grading for informed choice by tourists. The study adopted a cross-sectional design and quantitative data was collected from managers of establishments. The questionnaire was interviewer- administered in addition to an observational check-list. The study involved 30 HTSFE identified with the assistance from Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) and Uganda Safari Guides Association (USAGA). The response rate was 100%. Most of HTSFE were located in Western (47.6%) and Eastern Uganda (36.7%). Some were either stand-alone restaurants (40%) or part of a bigger hotel (43%). A considerable number (30%) employed between 1-5 food handlers and most (63.3%) had operated for more than 10 years. Majority (58.6%) were inspected by UTB in addition to either local council or city council. The commonest complaint recorded was delay in service (73.7%). The dishes prepared included local dishes (90%) and international cuisines (66.7%). Most HTSFE used water from National Water and Sewerage corporation (79.3%). None of the HTSFE had a food safety management system. The HTSFE belonged to three grade categories: B (36.6%), C (30%) and Non-graded (33.3%). The findings of the study suggest the need for implementing food safety management systems and more regular inspections and trainings for food safety assurance
Assessing the Implementation of a City for All within the New Indonesian Capital City: Smart and Green City Perspective
The ‘city for all’ concept shows how the new Indonesian capital city Nusantara is expected to create a harmonious and inclusive relationship between its residents and its surrounding environment. There is still a long way to go towards its implementation, as there are many unsolved environmental problems related to the new capital city project. In line with the previously-mentioned statement, this study analyzed the feasibility of implementing the city for all concept in the new capital city in view of the existing environmental issues in East Kalimantan. Another objective of this research was to see whether the city for all concept is compatible with the local context. These two research objectives were pursued by using the ‘smart city’ and ‘green city’ perspectives to assess the current development progress. We used qualitative research methods, including fieldwork and in-depth interviews with various actors in both the national and local context, as well as intensive archival research. This study revealed that there is a discrepancy in vision between the government, the city planners, and the locals in East Kalimantan. Furthermore, the locals, especially indigenous people, have shown a lukewarm response to the capital city project. Based on the fieldwork, it seems that the city for all concept and the currently existing smart and green city components do not match. This study concludes that solving the current environmental problems and unequal social participation should be done first before carrying on with the capital city development planning
The Hubs of Transformation Dictated by the Innovation Wave: Boston as a Case Study: Exploring How Design is Emerging as an Essential Feature in the Process of Laboratorization of Cities
Cities have become nodes of global networks, standing at the intersection points of the flows of capital, goods, workers, businesses, and travelers, making them spots where innovation, progress and economic development occur. Design emerges as an essential feature in this process, which this manuscript defines as the ‘laboratorization of cities’, a cutting-edge urban development paradigm that emphasizes cities as dynamic laboratories for innovation and experimentation. This study explored the spatial hubs of transformation within the knowledge economy, providing an overview of the current models of innovation spaces before focusing on the innovation district of one of the cities that are riding the innovation wave, namely Boston, USA. Information was gathered from observations, exploratory interviews with key stakeholders, and on-desk data. The study has significant implications, spanning from informing global urban development strategies to impacting regional economic planning and national policies. It provides valuable insights into how design, innovation, and urban development are interconnected, potentially reshaping how cities and regions approach their growth in the current knowledge-driven era. Useful lessons can be drawn from the case study analysis, allowing to define valuable tools for policymakers, a forward-looking perspective on the future of the laboratorization of cities and the evolving role of design, providing a roadmap for cities aiming to position themselves as global innovation hubs
A Review of Valorization of Okara and Okara Nanocelullose Derived from Soybean Industrial Waste for Biosorbent Applications
Solid waste from tofu production, also known as okara, has numerous applications and can produce high-value-added products. However, the utilization of okara in Indonesia is not yet significant. This written work proposes okara as a source of nanocellulose to produce wastewater adsorbents in freshwater by fabricating it as aerogels and hydrogels. Wastewater is highly hazardous to the environment and living organisms as it can contain saturated salts, heavy metals, organic compounds, oil emulsions, dyes, and even microbes as pollutants that can lead to various diseases or death. Therefore, research on biosorbents is always a hot topic. Biosorption is the process of binding metal ions into the cellular structure of biological materials. Lignocellulosic biosorbents have high adsorption properties due to their ion exchange capability. Okara biosorbent can increase the absorption capacity of Pb2+ ions by up to 20% compared to conventional absorbents. The soybean skin component could also remove contaminated textile dyes from water. Additionally, the low lignin content in okara makes it easier to utilize than other lignocellulosic materials. This research study also shows that okara-based nanocellulose aerogels can maintain their shape or exhibit full shape recovery properties even after being used repeatedly.Okara, the solid waste from tofu production, holds abundant potential in Indonesia. This review explores its application as a biosorbent for wastewater treatment, specifically as aerogels and hydrogels. Wastewater poses environmental risks due to pollutants like heavy metals, organic compounds, and microbes. This review discusses okara biosorbent, either in its natural form or modified to obtain cellulose, that proves effective in binding pollutants. Nanocellulose-based okara biosorbent enhances the absorption of heavy metals and textile dyes, surpassing traditional biosorbents. Its low lignin concentration simplifies its process of obtaining cellulose, compared to other lignocellulosic materials
Bifurkasi Kodimensi dua dari model SIR untuk COVID-19 dan implikasi epidemiologisnya
We study the codimension-two bifurcations exhibited by a recently-developed SIR-type mathematical model for the spread of COVID-19, as its two main parameters -the susceptible individuals' cautiousness level and the hospitals' bed-occupancy rate- vary over their domains. We use AUTO to generate the model's bifurcation diagrams near the relevant bifurcation points: two Bogdanov-Takens points and two generalised Hopf points, as well as a number of phase portraits describing the model's orbital behaviours for various pairs of parameter values near each bifurcation point. The analysis shows that, when a backward bifurcation occurs at the basic reproduction threshold, the transition of the model's asymptotic behaviour from endemic to disease-free takes place via an unexpectedly complex sequence of topological changes, involving the births and disappearances of not only equilibria but also limit cycles and homoclinic orbits. Epidemiologically, the analysis confirms the importance of a proper control of the values of the aforementioned parameters for a successful eradication of COVID-19. We recommend a number of strategies by which such a control may be achieved
Rapid Flood Mapping Using Statistical Sampling Threshold Based on Sentinel-1 Imagery in the Barito Watershed, South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia
Flood disasters occur frequently in Indonesia and can cause property damage and even death. This research aimed to provide rapid flood mapping based on remote sensing data by using a cloud platform. In this study, the Google Earth Engine cloud platform was used to quickly detect major floods in the Barito watershed in South Kalimantan province, Indonesia. The data used in this study were Sentinel-1 images before and after the flood event, and surface reflectance of Sentinel-2 images available on the Google Earth Engine platform. Flooding is detected using the threshold method. In this study, we determined the threshold using the Otsu method and statistical sampling thresholds (SST). Four SST scenarios were used in this study, combining the mean and standard deviation of the difference backscatter of Sentinel-1 images. The results of this study showed that the second SST scenario could classify floods with the highest accuracy of 73.2%. The inundation area determined by this method was 4,504.33 km2. The first, third and fourth SST scenarios and the Otsu method could reduce the flood load with an overall accuracy of 48.37%, 43.79%, 55.5% and 68.63%, respectively. The SST scenario is considered to be a reasonably good method for rapid flood detection using Sentinel-1 satellite imagery. This rapid detection method can be applied to other areas to detect flooding. This information can be quickly produced to help stakeholders determine appropriate flood management strategies

This research examines the application of brain-based learning (BBL) elements in social studies learning in Indonesia. It focused on social studies teachers in junior high schools in South Tangerang City and collected data from 100 social studies teachers. This research focused on social studies teachers in junior high schools in South Tangerang City. Each school is represented by one social studies teacher, so data is collected from 100 social studies teachers. The primary data collected in this study was obtained through the distribution of the questionnaire carried out via Google Form by utilizing the MGMP IPS in South Tangerang. The results show that the implementation of BBL in South Tangerang City did not run optimally because of two things: first, most of the BBL aspects had not been carried out optimally by teachers. Teachers rarely do many components of brain-based learning systems. Second, the survey results show that the five aspects of BBL are not carried out in harmony in social studies learning. BBL is a harmony learning pattern, where the five elements are carried out simultaneously, practically, and harmoniously because one part supports the other. If one part is too dominant, it will negatively impact learning outcomes.Penelitian pendidikan yang pesat berkembang di seluruh Eropa dan Amerika Serikat dan banyak didanai, salah satunya adalah pembelajaran berbasis otak, Brain-Based Learning (BBL). Mayoritas penelitian BBL diarahkan pada pengoptimalan proses belajar dan pembelajaran. Di Indonesia, berbagai penelitian BBL sudah banyak dilakukan peneliti baik di pembelajaran sains, ilmu-ilmu sosial, maupun humaniora. Pembelajaran IPS di sekolah menengah memiliki peran yang penting untuk ikut serta menyiapkan peserta didik memiliki kemampuan dalam mengembangkan berbagai potensinya. Penelitian ini diarahkan untuk melihat sejauhmana pendekatan BBL diterapkan oleh guru-guru IPS di Indonesia, khususnya di Kota Tangerang Selatan. Sampel penelitian ini adalah Guru IPS di SMP di Kota Tanggerang Selatan. Setiap sekolah diwakili oleh satu guru IPS, data terkumpul dengan teknik penyebaran kuisioner melalui Google Formulir dari 100 guru IPS dengan memanfaatkan MGMP IPS di Tangerang Selatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pelaksanaan BBL di Kota Tangerang Selatan tidak berjalan optimal karena dua hal, pertama, sebagian besar aspek-aspek BBL belum dijalankan oleh guru. Masih banyak komponen sistem pembelajaran berbasis otak yang jarang dilakukan oleh guru. Kedua, bahwa lima aspek BBL tidak dijalankan secara harmoni dalam pembelajaran IPS. BBL adalah pola pembelajaran harmoni, dimana lima unsur dijalankan bersamaan secara praktis dan harmonis, karena satu bagian mendukung bagian yang lain dan jika salah satu bagian terlalu dominan malah akan berdampak buruk pada hasil belajar.

Showcasing Luxury on Social Media: What Are The Effects? An Anomaly among Lecturers
In almost every job, technological advancement plays a vital role in making it easierfor humans, including social media. Today, there is a diminution of solidarity, which iscontradictory to the “concept of caring”. Users are increasingly indifferent, sometimesselfish, and exaggerate when they come into contact with posts on social media, thustriggering hacking by irresponsible individuals to achieve certain advantages. Thispaper is dedicated to investigating discriminatory actions against lecturers in theFaculty of ABC–University of XYZ who use Facebook and WhatsApp to show off allthe luxuries of life. Through the experimental–qualitative design, the sample invited“social climbing” lecturers who experienced material and non-material losses. Thisstudy describes that respondents who experienced material impacts due to hackingwere more dominant than those who suffered non-material losses. Most judged that thehacking addressed to respondents was triggered by a dominant intensity on social mediarather than going about their daily routines. However, in the long term, lecturers expresstheir attitude toward improving integrity as an academic community. Recognizing thisreality, the practical implications of regulation and lawlessness in cyberspace need to beenforced. In addition, these findings also set the agenda for future studies.Hampir setiap pekerjaan, determinasi teknologi mememang peranan vital untuk memudahkan manusia, termasuk media social. Dewasa ini, timbul penipisan terhadap solidaritas yang kontradiktif terhadap “konsep kepedulian”. Orang-orang semakin acuh, berperilaku tidak normal, dan berlebihan ketika bersinggungan dengan postingan di media social, sehingga memicu peretasan oleh oknum yang tidak berteganggung jawab untuk menuju keuntungan tertentu. Makalah ini mendedikasikan untuk menyelidiki aksi diskriminatif terhadap dosen di lingkungan Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis–Universitas Mulawarman yang menggunakan Facebook dan WhatsApp untuk memamerkan segala kemewahan kehidupan. Lewat eksperimen–kualitatitif, sampel mengundang dosen-dosen “panjat social” yang mengalami kerugian materi dan non-materi. Hasilnya, studi menguraikan bahwa para responden yang mengalami dampak materi akibat peretesan lebih dominan dibanding yang rugi secara non-materi. Sebagian besar menilai jika peretasan yang dialamatkan kepada mereka dipicu oleh itensitas yang dominan di media social ketimbang menjalani rutinitas sehari-hari. Akan tetapi, dalam jangka panjang, para dosen mengekspresikan sikap mereka untuk memperbaiki integritas sebagai civitas akademik. Menyadari realita ini, implikasi praktis terhadap regulasi dan pelanggaran hukum di dunia maya perlu ditegakkan. Selain itu, temuan ini juga menjembatani agenda studi masa depan.
 
Jaringan Kolaboratif Digital Untuk Pemasaran Kopi Berbasis Lembaga Masyarakat Desa Hutan (LMDH) Dan Green Economy
The digital transformation changes the way work is handled by using information technology to gain efficiency and effectiveness. It also includes the adoption and integration of new information and communication technologies for the completion of sustainable solutions. This process also involves new organizational forms and new business models. Digital transformation requires a digital collaborative network (Digital Collaborative Network, or DCN) among stakeholders in the 4th industrial revolution. The purpose of forming this collaborative network is to balance competition and share information, which will bring many benefits to the collaborating parties. The main objective of this program is to create a DCN for coffee marketing based on existing data at Tenjolaya’s LMDH (Forest-Village Community). The goal is to form a digital community with three main networks, namely ICT networks, knowledge networks, and social networks. Another goal is to train LMDH members to use ICT innovation and LMDH assistance so that they are ready to become a digital community. The target activities include four things: (1) mapping and socializing the DCN concept; (2) producing and processing development activities; (3) increasing the ability of farmer groups to be digital communities (through training and mentoring); and (4) conducting commercial activities.Digital transformation is a change int the way work is handled by using information technology to gain efficiency and effectiveness, also includes the adoption and integration of various new information and communication technologies for the completion of sustainable solutions.
