CONVERGING DOCTRINES, DIVERGENT RITUALS: EXPLORING BUDDHIST FUNERAL PRACTICES IN CONTEMPORARY ASIA
Funerals are one of the activities associated with and embedded in religious practices. In the three major sects of Buddhism, there are several different practices in burying the body, even though they refer to a single teaching or concept of death. This is interesting to discuss, considering that most religions worldwide use the same practice. This study explores how funeral practices are in the Buddhist tradition and what underlies these differences. Qualitative methods are adopted to answer these questions with a literature study approach. As a result, each Buddhist sect shows its uniqueness through reflection on Buddhism in general, which is not fixed on just one rigid teaching. For instance, the Sky funeral within the Vajrayāna tradition provides a perspective that humans are bound to nature. Giving bodies to birds and other animals signifies the strength of their bond. The practice of cremation in Theravāda is a way to release the physical remains left behind in the world. With this method, they can easily continue their next spiritual journey. At the same time, Mahayāna Buddhism describes a flexible perspective on religion and funeral practices. This study also suggests a more specific approach to looking at the complexity of funerals in Buddhism, especially in areas where Buddhism is a minority, such as Indonesia
Ethnomathematics Exploration of Geometry Concepts in Traditional Games in Karanganyar Regency
The purpose of this study is to describe the concept of geometry concepts contained in traditional games in Karanganyar Regency such as: engklek, kites, and marbles. This research uses qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The data collection methods used in this research are observation, documentation and interviews. The results of this study indicate that in traditional games in Karanganyar district there is the concept of geometry. The geometry concepts contained are flat shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, kite, semicircle and circle), space shapes (tube and ball), geometry transformation (reflection), and congruence. The concept of geometry is illustrated in the game arena and game tools
The Effect Of Gratitude On Body Image Of Early Adult Women In Medan City
This study aims to determine The Effect of Gratitude on Body Image in Early Adult Women in Medan City. Based on the results of research conducted on 301 early adult female respondents aged 18–25 years in Medan City, it shows that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which means there is a positive and significant influence between gratitude on body image, as much as 13.6% of variations in body image can be explained by the level of gratitude, while others are influenced by other factors outside the variables studied. In addition to gratitude, there are other variables or factors that also influence body image, including: Self-esteem (Rifka & Prasetyo, 2019), Social and media pressure (Perloff, 2014), Social comparison (Fardouly et al., 2015), Social support (Tiggemann & Slater, 2004) and Interpersonal Experience (Cash & Pruzinsky, 2002). The majority of respondents in this study had a high level of gratitude (74.4%), reflecting their ability to respond positively to life experiences, including their own physical condition. Individuals with high levels of gratitude tend to be more accepting of themselves as a whole, view their bodies as a gift, and are less affected by social pressures regarding physical appearance. These findings support the theory of Emmons & McCullough (2003), which states that gratitude is a form of positive emotion that can improve psychological well-being and self-acceptance, including physical aspects
The Effect Of Growth Mindset And Peer Social Support On Self-Regulated Learning
This study aims to determine 1) whether there is an influence of growth mindset on self-regulated learning among university students, 2) whether there is an influence of peer social support on self-regulated learning among university students, and 3) whether there is a combined influence of growth mindset and peer social support on self-regulated learning among university students. The participants of this study consisted of 138 university students from various universities in Medan. The research instruments used were the growth mindset scale, peer social support scale, and self-regulated learning scale. The data analysis technique employed was multiple regression analysis. The results of the study indicate the following: 1) there is no influence of growth mindset on self-regulated learning, 2) there is no influence of peer social support on self-regulated learning, and 3) there is no positive influence of growth mindset and peer social support on psychological well-being. The Effect Of Work Life Balance On Workplace Well-Being Of Employees Of PT. Perdana Inti Sawit Perkasa
This study aims to analyze the effect of Work-Life Balance on Workplace Well-Being among employees of PT Perdana Inti Sawit Perkasa. Work-Life Balance refers to the balance between work and personal life that can affect employee well-being in the workplace. Workplace Well-Being reflects the level of satisfaction, mental health, and organizational support perceived by employees in the work environment. This study uses a quantitative method with a survey approach, involving 31 respondents consisting of permanent and contract employees at PT Perdana Inti Sawit Perkasa. Data were collected through online questionnaires and analyzed using a simple linear regression test. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant influence between Work-Life Balance on Workplace Well-Being. Employees who have a good balance between work and personal life tend to have a higher level of well-being in the workplace. This study explains the importance of companies in implementing work flexibility policies, organizational support, and a conducive work environment to improve employee well-being. That way, companies can increase employee productivity and loyalty in the long term. The results of this study indicate that organizations, especially in a Limited Liability Company (PT), show a significant relationship between work-life balance and well-being in the workplace. PT Perdana Inti Sawit Perkasa should prioritize initiatives in promoting a healthy balance between work and personal life responsibilities to increase employee satisfaction and productivity
Description Of Knowledge, Self-Control, And Family Support In Adolescents in Obesity Prevention
Obesity is a condition of body weight exceeding normal limits due to the accumulation of excess fat in the body. Knowledge is the result of a person's understanding of a particular thing. Perception occurs through the five human senses, namely sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Most human knowledge is obtained through the eyes and ears. Self-control is a person's ability to restrain negative reactions and control behavior caused by a stimulus so that a person can make good decisions and achieve the expected results. Family support is a process that occurs throughout the life cycle, and the nature and type of support vary at different stages of the life cycle. This study aims to determine the Description of Knowledge, Self-Control, and Family Support in Adolescents in Preventing Obesity. This study is a descriptive study with a total sampling method with a questionnaire distribution method. The sample of this study are 101 respondents. Based on this research, the results of Knowledge in Adolescents in Obesity Prevention obtained the results of the data study that: good amounted to 24 respondents (23.8%), sufficient amounted to 65 respondents (64.3%), and insufficient amounted to 12 respondents (11.9%). On average, the majority of women and men with an age range of 16 - 19 years. Self-Control in Adolescents in Obesity Prevention obtained the results of the data study that: low amounted to 67 respondents (66.3%), and high amounted to 34 respondents (33.7%). The average majority of women and men with an age range of 16 - 19 years. Family Support for Adolescents in Obesity Prevention obtained data research results that: good amounted to 87 respondents (86.1%), and less good amounted to 14 respondents (13.9%). The average majority of women and men with an age range of 16 - 19 years
Teachers’ Perceptions Of Using The Hinative App For Pronunciation Learning
This study looks at how English teachers in Binjai, Indonesia, use the HiNative app to help students learn pronunciation. This research looks at how HiNative can be used in the classroom. It looks at how well it works, what the benefits are, and what the problems might be. This is important because people are focusing more on being able to communicate well, and more and more tools are being used to help with learning languages. Four English teachers were interviewed and gave answers to a questionnaire. We used something called 'thematic analysis', following a method described by Braun and Clarke in 2006, to examine the teachers' experiences and insights. The results show that HiNative had a positive effect on student engagement, motivation, and their self-awareness of pronunciation. Teachers said the app was easy to use and could provide real feedback from native speakers. But there are also some problems, such as limited internet access, people having different levels of digital skills, and not being part of the school day. The study says that HiNative can be a useful tool to help with teaching pronunciation if there is enough training, the right infrastructure, and good teaching plans. These insights are important for the wider discussion about using mobile technology in teaching English as a second language. They show how ready teachers are to use mobile technology and how schools and other organisations support them
Analisis Nilai-Nilai Pendidikan Karakter Dalam Film Jumbo Karya Ryan Adriandhy dan Implementasinya Terhadap Pembelajaran
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Analisis Nilai-Nilai Pendidikan Karakter Dalam Film Jumbo Karya Ryan Adriandhy Dan Implementasinya Terhadap Pembelajaran. Berdasarkan hsil penelitian dan pembahasan yang telah diuraikan tentang kajian semiotika mamogoti bagas Adriandhy , disimpulkan :Terdapat 15 nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter dalam film Jumbo karya Ryan Adriandhy: 2 data yang merupakan karakter religius, 1 data karakter jujur, 2 data karakter toleransi . 2 data karakter disiplin, 2 data karakter kerja keras, 5 data karakter mandiri, 1 data karakter mandiri, 2 data karakter demkokrasi, 3 data karakter rasa ingin tahu, 1 data karakter cinta tanah air, 3 data karakter menghargai prestasi, 12 data karakter komunikatif senang bersahabat proaktif, 1 data gemar membaca, 12 data karakter peduli sosial, dan 2 data karakter tanggung jawab.Nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter dalam film Jumbo karya Ryan Adriandhy ditunjukkan memlaui dialog antar tokoh, adegan-adegan visual, serta perilaku dan perubahan sikap yang ditampilkan oleh para tokoh sepanjang cerita. Nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter tersebut tercermin dalam cara tokoh menghadapi permasalahan, berinteraksi dengan lingkungan sosialnya, serta dalam penyelesaian konflik yang mengandung nilai pendidikan karakter dan pembelajaran bagi penonton.Hasil penelitian memiliki keterkaitan terhadap pembelajaran khususnya pembaelajaran bahasa Indonesia, pendidikan secara umum, keksusastraaan, dan teori yang digunaka
Analisis Deikis Dan Nilai Pendidikan Karakter Pada Novel “Perempuan Yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam” Karya Dian Purnomo
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk Analisis Deikis Dan Nilai Pendidikan Karakter Pada Novel “Perempuan Yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam” Karya Dian Purnomo. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan analisis data yang dilakukan pada novel Perempuan Yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam karya Dian Purnomo, maka dapat ditarik kesimpulan penelitian sebagai berikut: Peneliti menemukan beberapa bentuk deiksis yang terdapat pada novel Perempuan Yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam karya Dian Purnomo. Bentuk deiksis terdiri dari deiksis persona, deiksis waktu, deiksis tempat, dan deiksis sosial. Jumlah keseluruhan data yang dipaparkan oleh peneliti terdapat 448 data, yang terdiri atas : (1) deiksis persona sebanyak 350 data, (2) deiksis waktu sebanyak 47 data, (3) deiksis tempat sebanyak 15 data dan (4) deiksis sosial sebanyak 36 data. Pertama, Bentuk deiksis persona yang paling dominan adalah kata “Sa” yang merupakan bentuk deiksis persona orang pertama dengan jumlah 152 pemakaian. Kata “Sa” dalam bahasa Sumba merujuk pada diri sendiri yang berarti “saya”. Hubungan antara deiksis dalam bahasa daerah dengan bahasa Indonesia terletak pada fungsi dan bentuknya sebagai penanda konteks dalam komunikasi. Berdasarkan temuan nilai-nilai pendidikan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter pada novel tersebut yang memiliki sebanyak 12 (dua belas) nilai pendidikan karakter Adapun 12 nilai pendidikan karakter tersebut meliputi: 1) nilai religius sebanyak 2 data, 2) toleran 1 data, 3) kerja keras 4 data, 4) mandiri sebanyak 2 data, 5) demokratis sebanyak 1 data, 6) rasa ingin tahu sebanyak 1 data, 6) cinta tanah air sebanyak 1 data, 7) menghargai prestasi sebanyak 1 data, 8) bersahabat sebanyak 2 data, 9) gemar membaca sebanyak 2 data, 11) peduli sosial sebanyak 2 data, dan 12) nilai tanggung jawab sebanyak 1 data. Sehingga jumlah keseluruhan nilai pendidikan karakter sebanyak 20 data. 
Analisis Makna Pakaian (Pahean) Adat Simalungun (Kajian Semiotika)
Penelitian ini berjudul “Analisis Makna Pakaian Tradisional Simalungun (Pahean) (Studi Semiotik)” bertujuan untuk menggambarkan makna denotatif dan konotatif serta lima kode Roland Barthes yang terdapat dalam pakaian tradisional Simalungun, serta mengeksplorasi nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung di dalamnya. Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah berkurangnya pemahaman generasi muda mengenai nama, fungsi, dan makna pakaian tradisional Simalungun sebagai warisan budaya regional. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, dokumentasi, dan studi literatur mengenai berbagai jenis pahean seperti gotong, bulang teget, hiou, baju soja, dan baju pandihar. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan semiotik Roland Barthes, yang mencakup makna denotatif, makna konotatif, dan lima kode: hermeneutik, semantik, simbolik, proairetik, dan budaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pakaian tradisional Simalungun mengandung makna simbolik yang mencerminkan identitas, etika, dan nilai-nilai spiritual masyarakat Simalungun. Setiap jenis pakaian mewakili nilai-nilai etika, estetika, sosial, dan agama yang erat kaitannya dengan pandangan dunia komunitas. Upaya pelestarian pahean harus difokuskan pada peningkatan pemahaman generasi muda melalui pendidikan, sosialisasi budaya, dan penggunaan media digital agar warisan budaya ini tetap terjaga di tengah gelombang modernisasi saat ini
