Global Aging and Social Security
No full textThis paper aims to capture the relationship between global aging and social security, considering the speed of aging and the timing of industrial structural transformation. It examines social security systems (medical care, pensions, and long-term care) in Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand.
Aging relates to industrial transformation closely. Differences in the speed at which the aging rate rises and the timing of industrial transformation across countries, which in turn affect the design and reform of social security systems.
Before facing rapid aging, Japan referred to the social security systems of European countries such as Germany and achieved “universal health insurance and pensions” relatively early. This laid the foundation for addressing the issues of an aging society. In South Korea and Thailand, the aging rate is rising faster than in Japan. South Korea has already completed the industrial structural transformation and is rapidly advancing the development of its social security system. However, in Thailand, where many people are still engaged in primary industries, the systems of developed countries cannot always be directly applied, and further consideration of how to develop social security is required.
As aging prograsses, countries are expected to adapt to changes while reforming their systems and adjusting their finances. In addition, dementia is a major global public health challenge of aging, requiring strategies that uphold rights, reduce stigma, and support older people and caregivers worldwide.departmental bulletin pape
A Qualitative Study on Elements of Scientific Inquiry: In Case of Academic Paper on Nature Science
No full textToward implementation of inquiry-based science education, this study addressed to draw elements of scientific inquiry based on components of academic papers. In academic writing, IMRaD (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion) is well known as a style of academic papers. In particular, we employed a concept of ‘move,’ which is utilised in linguistics to analyse components of academic papers, as a theoretical framework. Then, three papers were extracted from Nature, which is one of the representative journals, and were targeted in this study. These papers were analysed qualitatively referring to Sato (2008)’s open-coding. In conclusion, we identified 14 moves which constituted those papers. The extracted moves will contribute to design inquiry-based science education by allowing science teachers to consider what elements of scientific inquiry should be incorporated into lessons including practical work.departmental bulletin pape
Text, Music, Image: Critical Approaches to Issues in Authenticity
Get PDFThis study considers an interdisciplinary, tertiary-level course centered on ideas of authenticity and culture, particularly employing texts in various culturally-processed formats. After a personal narrative, I shall look at Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) as a core methodology, explore its history to some extent, differentiate it from other approaches. From here, the chapter will continue with an exploration of the concept of “the authentic” itself, as well as other key terms such as “text,” then turn to the examination of a group of thinkers whose work creates a theoretical framework. Discussions of key concepts and two of the theorists will include materials and summaries of texts as used in the classroom. The purpose of including these is not to offer the information itself, but rather to offer exemplars of how complex ideas can be reduced to a consumable form for tertiary students working in their second language who have previously had limited exposure to critical theory. This be followed by a look at how a text might be examined and how the ideas of the four thinkers might be related to the emerging area of Artificial Intelligence in terms of their ideas about authenticity. This is primarily a discussion of various approaches to authenticity in a classroom environment rather than a history of the topic or an examination of the theory surrounding it. As such, it draws a great deal on personal reflection, experience and materials used inclass. Global aging and self-responsibility
No full textThe aim of this paper is to examine changes in people's sense of responsibility attribution in a society that is becoming increasingly individualized and aging. To this end, we analyze how differences in the degree of aging progression at multiple points in time in countries with varying levels of aging affect individuals' sense of self-responsibility. Using data from the World Values Survey, we analyzed 145,264 individuals from 16 countries. The sense of self-responsibility for life was used as the dependent variable, and a three-level hierarchical linear model was employed for verification.
As a result, changes in the macro-level aging rate at the national level were found to influence individuals' sense of self-responsibility for life, accounting for more of the variance in this sense than factors such as age, birth cohort, or survey year. These findings provide valuable evidence for the theoretical examination of the social changes brought about by individualization.departmental bulletin pape
