Fragility assessment of installation defects in industrial standing seam metal roof subjected to wind loads

    No full text
In industrial structures in which standing seam metal roofs (SSMRs) are commonly used, heat insulation and waterproofing have emerged as crucial requirements for the protection of internal equipment. However, in newly developed SSMRs, the structural systems have become increasingly complex. The installation of insulation layers between the upper and lower panels poses challenges during roof panel installations, resulting in defects owing to the carelessness of the installer. These clip defects can significantly affect the wind-resistance performance of the SSMR structure during testing. In this study, we employed finite element method (FEM) modeling and verification, utilizing the wind resistance test results of SSMRs. In addition, we conducted a variable analysis as well as a fragility assessment focusing on the location and number of clip defects in the SSMRs. The results of this study indicate that the wind performance of the roof was significantly degraded owing to SSMR clip defects. Moreover, the wind resistance performance can be quantitatively evaluated by considering the roof zone and the exposed environment under a wind load

The effect of relative density, granularity and size of geogrid apertures on the shear strength of the soil/geogrid interface

    No full text
The increasing use of geogrid in various geotechnical projects has made the evaluation of the shear behavior of soil reinforced with geogrid become particularly important. In this article, a series of large-scale direct shear tests have been performed on sand and gravel samples reinforced with geogrid. The purpose of the experiments was to investigate the impact of the geogrid mesh size and the relative density of the samples on the shear strength coefficient of the interface between soil and geogrid. In this study, 5 geogrids with different mesh sizes and one type of geotextile were used. According to the results, the average shear strength coefficient of sand and gravel samples reinforced with geogrid for different normal stresses and different relative densities was obtained between 0.72 and 0.94. As the relative density increases, the interface shear strength coefficient decreases, this means that the denser the sand, the more the shear strength of the sand/geogrid interface decreases. Based on the results, it was found that the contribution of particle interlocking in the shear resistance of the sand/geogrid interface is particularly important, so that the shear resistance coefficient of the interface increases with the increase in the size of the geogrid mesh

Housing price, family structures and household consumption: Empirical evidence of Taiwan

    No full text
The housing price affects the allocation of family budget on consumption. We use regression analysis to confirm whether Taiwan’s housing prices have a significant influence on household consumption based on the questionnaire survey on household income and expenditure in 2018. We find that housing prices have the greatest impact on household consumption, possibly because housing accounts for the largest proportion of household assets, implying a significant wealth effect. In addition, the impact of interest of deposit on consumption is also found to be greater than that of household income as it is related to the level of total assets. The housing prices for single-person household with female gender have a negative and significant impact on household consumption. Finally, housing prices are found to have a significantly negative effect on non-consumption and current transfer expenditure. The possible reason is that the households who hold the house believe that the appreciation of housing price can provide more protection for the family from suffering from possible economic risks in the future and thus crowd out non-consumption expenditures

Elevating property management in public housing: A systematic literature review

    No full text
Public housing (PH) focuses on assisting low-income households with housing stability. However, the inefficiency of property management in PH gives rise to a range of challenges in both physical and internal operational management, leading to negative stigmatisation towards tenants living in PH. Various initiatives have been launched to address the inefficiencies of property management. This study categorised and elaborated these initiatives under three main categories: reconceptualisation, externalisation, and managerialisation. There is currently no systematic literature review that provides a comprehensive overview of the initiatives aimed at enhancing property management in PH on a global scale, despite the fact that an overwhelming number of initiatives have been proposed in various studies. Therefore, the present systematic literature review was conducted to provide a comprehensive understanding of the existing research and initiatives pertinent to PH property management. This thorough examination will not only inform the current state of property management practices but also provide valuable insights to guide future research endeavours and decision-making processes in this domain. The outcome of this study revealed the positive impact of managerialisation, showcasing its pivotal role in problem identification and as a strategic indicator for proposing solutions aimed at continuous improvement

Predictors of investment intention in real estate: Extending the theory of planned behavior

    No full text
This paper explores the factors affecting the investment intention of individual real estate investors utilizing the extended theory of planned behavior. With the help of self-administered questionnaire, data from 366 individual investors from India was collected. This data was analysed using two-step structural equation modelling. While significant direct effect of attitude, external influence, financial self-efficacy and perceived financial return was found, interpersonal influence, perceived financial risk, facilitating conditions and financial awareness had no significant direct impact on investment intention. Upon checking the mediating effect of attitude on the factors, all factors influenced investment intention through attitude except facilitating condition and financial awareness. It was also observed that attitude stands out as the most important aspect due to strongest influence on intention directly and also providing mediation to all variables except two. The study guides policymakers and investment institutions to develop strategies and utilize resources in a direction that can bring out a positive outcome by strengthening real estate investors’ investment intentions. It brings out the fact that financial confidence should be boosted by enabling investors to handle and manage their finances which can bring in a positive attitude for investing

Housing quality is one of the most important domains of quality of life. One of the most important qualitative aspects of housing is paying attention to the residents’ satisfaction with their place of residence. The purpose of the upcoming research is to know the physical-spatial characteristics that affect the quality of apartment housing. The research method is combined and based on two quantitative and qualitative approaches. In this way, in the first part and the qualitative approach of the research, the text content analysis method was used. In this section, with the help of the content analysis method, the most important sources of the first category related to the quality of apartment housing are reviewed and the physical-spatial characteristics affecting the quality of the housing are identified. In the second stage of the research, with the help of a quantitative approach, the evaluation of people’s characteristics has been done with the help of TOPSIS method. The statistical population university professors related to housing was used to evaluate the physical-spatial characteristics. The findings of the research show that the characteristics related to housing quality are not only physical

Analyzing causality and cointegration of macroeconomics and energy-related factors of Nordic and SEE European countries

    No full text
Discrepancies between several South-Eastern European (SEE) countries and Nordic countries are investigated in this paper using an econometric analysis. Its aim is to examine the relationship between CO2 emissions, GDP per capita, urban population (URB) and electricity production from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) – EPREN, excluding hydroelectric for the two groups of EU countries located in the North and S-E of Europe. The data covers a period from 1990 to 2022, providing a comprehensive view over three decades. The relationship between the four variables is determined by various causality and cointegration tests. We check the unit root tests and conclude that the analyzed time series are stationary at first difference. Further, we estimate two models: Fully Modified and Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares and study causality and cointegration between variables. The results show that CO2 emissions are impacted by GDP, URB and EPREN for both regions. Testing causality, for SEE and Nordic countries, the bidirectional and causalities do exist

Tourism business management in the aspect of earnings management by travel agencies in times disease threats – evidence from Poland

    No full text
This study examines the existence of earnings management by travel agencies operating in Poland at the time of global disease threats over the last decade. To measure earnings management the estimation of total discretionary accruals was used constituting some changes in the working capital. Among the available research methods, hypothesis verification procedures based on panel models have been selected. It is found, that in the times of economic prosperity, the phenomenon of earnings management does not occur as it is not necessary. In tough years, when the actual financial result becomes unsatisfactory, shaping the result is used as a tool for its correction. Interpretation of the results requires caution due to their sensitivity to the adopted research methodology. They should be treated as an incentive to a thorough analysis of the content of financial statements and to research into the earnings management of tourism businesses

Investigating the impact of time allocation on family well-being in China

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the relationship between family time allocation patterns and subjective well-being of Chinese married women. Using the fixed-effect ordered logit model and data from CFPS 2014–2018, this study empirically explores the impact mechanism and heterogeneity of family time allocation patterns on married women’s well-being. The results indicate that the mode of working full-time and handling the majority of housework is an impact negatively for women, and this result is robust. Further heterogeneity analysis reveals that market work has a weaker impact on low-educated women’s well-being than housework, but this is reversed for high-educated women. In particular, the single-time poverty brought on by housework specifically reduces women’s well-being, more than that of dual-time poverty of work time and housework time. Also, the happiness efficiency resulting from women reducing housework time will increase with the rise in happiness levels. Accordingly, this paper highlights three policy implications: enhancing happiness effectiveness, optimizing family time allocation patterns, and raising women’s status. The conclusion clarifies the path to gender equality in family labor division and provides new recommendations for relevant nations on how to promote the equalized gender division of labor and enhance the standard of living for women

    No full text
Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) are becoming an increasingly popular heating source for buildings. The paper presents an evaluation of the experimental data from ASHP operation during the heating season in Lithuania when the problem of the evaporator’s surface freezing is visible. The performance of the air-to-water heat pump is examined using energy and exergy analyses performed by a coefficient of performance (COP), COPCarnot, exergy efficiency, and primary energy ratio. Analysis results show that the existing difference between the ideal and actual operation of ASHP represents the demand to improve the performance of ASHP evaporator. The actual COP was from 3.5 to 4.7 times lower than the Carnot COP. At 0 °C and 95% humidity, the ASHP’s performance was least favourable, with an average exergy efficiency of 0.21 and a COP of 1.49
