    Can digital financial inclusion promote the nighttime economy? - New evidence from Chinese counties’ nighttime lighting data and threshold model

    In the post-pandemic era, the relative weakness of the economy is reflected not only in the macro data but also in the nighttime economy. Based on the threshold model and unbalanced panel data of 1772 county-level administrative units in China from 2014 to 2020, this paper deeply explores the relationship between digital inclusive finance and night economy and draws the following conclusions. (1) When digital financial inclusion exceeds certain thresholds, its beneficial influence on promoting the nighttime economy increases from 8.13% to 26.59% and 87.71%. (2) Digital financial inclusion promotes the nighttime economy by increasing employment in the secondary industry and promoting technological innovation. However, digital financial inclusion hinders the nighttime economy by reducing entrepreneurial activity in the accommodation and catering sectors. (3) Coverage breadth first inhibits, then promotes, and inhibits the nighttime economy in different intervals; the effect of usage depth and digital level on the nighttime economy in intervals shows an increasing trend. (4) In the Yangtze River Economic Belt region, digital financial inclusion initially inhibits the nighttime economy but turns into promotion as it develops; after the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy in 2017, digital financial inclusion can more positively and significantly promote the nighttime economy

    Implicit extended discontinuous Galerkin scheme for solving singularly perturbed Burgers\u27 equations

    We present the implicit-modal discontinuous Galerkin scheme for solving the coupled viscous and singularly perturbed Burgers’ equations. This scheme overcomes overshoot and undershoots phenomena in the singularly perturbed Burgers’ equations. We present the stability analysis and obtain suitable ranges for penalty terms and time steps. Also, we gain the constant of trace inequality for the approximate function and its first derivatives based on Legendre basis functions. The numerical results have good agreement with the analytical and available approximate solutions

    Plane waves at an interface of thermoelastic and magneto-thermoelastic media

    This research examines the propagation of waves in a semi-infinite, isotropic magneto-thermoelastic solid, and a semi-infinite thermoelastic solid with welded contact. The study investigates the influence of a magnetic field on amplitude coefficients for the incidence of thermal, SV, and P waves in the magnetothermoelastic solid in a semi-infinite space. The incidence of these waves results in a total of six waves, including both refracted and reflected waves. The fluctuation of amplitude coefficients for various magnetic pressure values is explored for copper and aluminum as numerical constants. The study observes that the amplitude coefficients of seismic waves, occurring during the incidence of thermal, SV, and P waves in the magneto-thermoelastic solid semi-infinite space, are dependent on the incident angle, magnetic field, and material constants. Notably, the amplitude coefficients for the incidence of SV waves exhibit only a minor influence from the magnetic field. The implications of this research extend to applications in ocean acoustics, geophysics, acoustic devices, composite materials, and non-destructive testing

    Mathematical modelling electrically driven free shear flows in a duct under uniform magnetic field

    We consider a mathematical model of two-dimensional electrically driven laminar free shear flows in a straight duct under action of an applied uniform homogeneous magnetic field. The mathematical approach is based on studies by J.C.R. Hunt and W.E. Williams [10], Yu. Kolesnikov and H. Kalis [22,23]. We solve the system of stationary partial differential equations (PDEs) with two unknown functions of velocity U and induced magnetic field H. The flows are generated as a result of the interaction of injected electric current in liquid and the applied field using one or two couples of linear electrodes located on duct walls: three cases are considered. In dependence on direction of current injection and uniform magnetic field, the flows between the end walls are realized. Distributions of velocities and induced magnetic fields, electric current density in dependence on the Hartmann number Ha are studied. The solution of this problem is obtained analytically and numerically, using the Fourier series method and Matlab

    Carnivalesque, creativity, and the becomings: a critical assessment of the politics of resistance in Batman: Arkham Asylum

    There is a growing academic interest in respect for critical game studies from the domains such as cultural studies, literature, ludology, and gender studies. However, the research done on videogames from the perspective of the political discourse is not broad enough. Rocksteady Studios’ Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009, director Sefton Hill) is a franchise that has redefined the superhero videogame genre. Although previous Batman transmedia adaptations would usually portray Gotham City as the prime location to narrate the story from the perspective of Batman, the videogame utilizes the carceral setting of Batman to subvert the traditional narratives and makes it completely a Joker’s (character) game. Therefore, this version of storytelling carries a character with a more nuanced demeanor and a setting with socio-political influence. The current paper examines the underlying structural inequality present in Batman using Giorgio Agamben’s bare life theory and the subsequent discourse of resistance using the theoretical framework of Mikhail Bakhtin. The analysis reveals the various carnivalesque elements present in the game and illustrates how the game takes advantage of them to mount an attack against the bare life status of the antagonists that are usually seen in Batman transmedia universe. Furthermore, the paper elaborates on the posthuman traits of Joker’s becoming through a Gilles Deleuze-inspired perspective

    Upcycling for repurposing waste into creative products

    Upcycling is the process of repurposing non-used materials or products to make them more valuable or usable, with increased quality and value. However, truly little research has been conducted on the design process and/or creative ideation of upcycling in order to produce higher-quality and more valuable products. This study presents the four stages of the design process, consisting of selecting the waste products, emerging conceptions, generating ideas, and rendering a series of creative ideas. SCAMPER (substitute, combine, adjust, modify, put to other uses, eliminate, reverse), one of the practical and effective techniques to create various creative ideas, was applied in the stages of emerging conceptions and generating ideas. With the upcycling concept of waste product design utilizing SCAMPER, the results demonstrated that waste soft drink cans could be converted into five creative products: a desk watch, a picture frame, a spring paper clip, a pencil holder, and a lamp. The five products featured the upcycling of waste soft drink cans, removing the need to recycle or send them to landfills at that point in their lifecycle. Consideration was given to the design process’ compatibility with creative concept generation and design. The study indicated that upcycling should be viewed as an essential component of waste management and repurposing in order to provide an intelligent answer to escalating product waste problems

    Risk profiling question investigation for robo-advisor

    Purpose – this study aims to thoroughly investigate by reviewing previous literature on risk assessment queries for robo-advisors, comparing it with three existing robo-advisors and proposing suitable risk assessment questions for robo-advisor. Research methodology – utilize the deductive content analysis technique to examine the risk assessment issue for financial robo-advisors, which is influenced by previous study. Findings – there are nine questions share a similar context both in previous literature and among existing robo-advisors, with income being the most commonly used question. Then, there are three questions that are only asked by the existing robo-advisors: emergency funds, home ownership, and the source of transaction. These findings suggest some additional questions to enhance the effectiveness of risk assessment in robo-advisory services for individuals. Research limitations – only two previous research papers have focused on risk profiling, and three available applications used in this research. Practical implications – the robo-advisor’s developer should take into account various factors such as local culture and economic conditions, financial product knowledge, etc. when crafting diverse risk profiles to provide more precise investment recommendations. Originality/Value – the study is the first research which explore the risk profiling for financial robo-advisor, which used by existing robo-advisor then compared to other countries in the world

    Sustainable development goals in Kazakhstan’s academic landscape: a critical bibliometric study on sustainable development

    Purpose – The purpose of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the academic activities of Kazakhstan’s academics and to present a comprehensive map of the academic landscape in the country. Research methodology – The study combines synthesis and comparative scientific analysis of concepts and methods in the literature. It involves secondary data analysis, statistical processing, and bibliometric analysis to gather and interpret the data. Findings – The analysis reveals a significant gap between the practical applications of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Kazakhstan and the academic research on the topic. Furthermore, academic activities and practices in Kazakhstan do not align well with the official reports on the SDGs. While some SDGs have comparable publications in Kazakhstan to global averages, others present distinct challenges and problematic issues unique to the country. Research limitations – The study faces limitations due to the lack of data or difficulty accessing relevant information. Practical implications – This research is crucial for promoting SDGs as it aids in understanding global issues, identifying knowledge gaps, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to ad- dress complex issues related to sustainable development. Additionally, examining a country’s academic activities through the lens of SDGs is essential for assessing the nation’s academic awareness and engagement with these global goals. Originality/Value – The article provides a unique and valuable perspective on integrating sustainable development goals within Kazakhstan’s academic landscape, highlighting achievements and areas needing improvement
