The impact of digital disinformation on quality of life: a fuzzy model assessment

    No full text
Quality of Life (QoL) is a multifaceted concept encompassing economic, social, environmental, psychological, and physical dimensions of an individual’s life, including personal living conditions, happiness, well-being, and life satisfaction. As a vital criterion for sustainable development and active social policy in countries, QoL has been significantly influenced by the dynamic technological evolution of social media. However, the comprehensive impact of social media, including its role in disseminating disinformation – a major social and socio-economic concern – on QoL remains underexplored. This research aims to develop a novel fuzzy model to assess the level of disinformation on digital platforms and its correlation with the population’s QoL. Employing a mathematical approach rooted in expert evaluation, this study leverages intellectual knowledge analysis and fuzzy set theory. Grounded in data from real respondents and knowledge-based models, this study pioneers an information model to evaluate inhabitants’ QoL, incorporating factors such as financial concerns, perception of disinformation, and its influence on digital platforms. The fuzzy estimation model, verified with data from 3,036 respondents, quantitatively assesses citizens’ QoL. An illustrative application of the model demonstrates its effectiveness. The findings are particularly valuable for policymakers, experts in economic and innovative development, aiding the creation of regulatory and monitoring mechanisms to foster sustainable economic growth and devise effective development strategies

The effect of remittances on poverty and economic growth in Jordan: evidence from augmented autoregressive distributed lag model

    No full text
This study investigates the effects of remittances on poverty and economic growth in Jordan from 1970 to 2022. The study makes use of the augmented autoregressive distributed lag (AARDL) cointegration method to investigate the relationships between remittances, poverty, and economic growth. The study also incorporates control variables including foreign direct investment, inflation, interest rates, government expenditures, and the composite trade index to take into consideration their potential impact on the outcomes. The findings support remittances’ role as an economic development accelerator by demonstrating their strong positive impact on Jordan’s economic growth. Remittances have a detrimental impact on poverty as well, suggesting a potential role for them in efforts to eradicate it. The research also confirms the anticipated impacts of the control variables, indicating that while inflation, interest rates, and the composite trade index have favourable effects on poverty, government expenditures and foreign direct investment have negative consequences. The policymakers and stakeholders in Jordan will need to consider the implications of these findings carefully. Policymakers can create measures to draw in and successfully channel remittance flows by recognising the beneficial effects of remittances on economic growth and poverty alleviation. The findings also highlight how important it is to encourage foreign direct investment, control inflation and interest rates, and facilitate trade diversification in order to boost economic growth and lower poverty. The impact of digitalization and economic diversification on economic growth: evidence from Saudi Arabia

    No full text
The present study aims to assess the impact of economic diversification and digitalization on economic growth in Saudi Arabia during the period 1990–2021. We have looked into this relationship in both the overall economic and non-oil economic sectors using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) cointegration approach. The empirical results offer compelling evidence that economic diversification and digitization affect economic growth both directly and indirectly through their effects on non-oil GDP growth. The findings indicate that there is a long-run dynamic between economic growth, economic diversification, and digitalization. In the long run, digitalization contributes to the progress of non-oil economic growth and, therefore, sustainable economic growth. In addition, the causality test revealed that economic diversification develops the economy of new knowledge, which reinforces economic diversification, and non-oil economic growth supports digitalization. Consequently, digitalization played an important role in the Kingdom’s economic transition toward economic diversification. Indeed, our results prove that digitalization increases non-oil income and then reduces the supremacy of the oil sector in the economy, which promotes economic diversification. The KSA authority must accelerate the energetic transition process in order to support economic diversification and attract more foreign investment in information and communication technologies (ICTs)

Some considerations on numerical methods for Cauchy singular integral equations on the real line

Two different direct methods are proposed to solve Cauchy singular integral equations on the real line. The aforementioned methods differ in order to be able to prove their convergence which depends on the smoothness of the known term function in the integral equation

Micropolar fluid-thin elastic structure interaction: variational analysis

    No full text
We consider the non-stationary flow of a micropolar fluid in a thin channel with an impervious wall and an elastic stiff wall, motivated by applications to blood flows through arteries. We assume that the elastic wall is composed of several layers with different elastic characteristics and that the domains occupied by the two media are infinite in one direction and the problem is periodic in the same direction. We provide a complete variational analysis of the two dimensional interaction between the micropolar fluid and the stratified elastic layer. For a suitable data regularity, we prove the existence, the uniqueness and the regularity of the solution to the variational problem associated to the physical system. Increasing the data regularity, we prove that the fluid pressure is unique, we obtain additional regularity for all the unknown functions and we show that the solution to the variational problem is solution for the physical system, as well

Business model transformation of REITs in the senior housing sector

    No full text
This study examines the transformative impact of the REIT Investment Diversification and Empowerment Act (RIDEA) of 2007 on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and their partnerships with operating entities in the U.S. senior housing industry. We explore how REITs, functioning as both asset owners and managers, adapt their business strategies in response to the evolving business landscape. Employing a case study approach rooted in Zott and Amit’s (2010) conceptualization of business models, the study identifies and analyzes notable shifts in market participants’ recognition of value-enhancing approaches, encompassing not only traditional rental income but also the operational performance of property managers. The findings reveal an expanded risk and profit-sharing mechanism propelled by the newly implemented business framework based on RIDEA, fostering enhanced alignment of interests between REITs and operators compared to the traditional business framework. While this effect under the new model holds the potential for significant enhancements in operational efficiency for asset managers, it concurrently introduces complexities arising from heightened financial and market risks, as well as challenges related to workforce management. Our findings offer valuable insights to industry experts, including REITs, operators, investors, and policymakers, enriching their comprehension of the evolving business models within the senior housing sector

Alleviating surveyor bias in real estate: An application to vacancy and property prices

    No full text
Although vacancies in the real estate market have always been of key interest to both private and public stakeholders, measuring the impact of vacancy rates on property prices is challenging. This study attempts to quantify the extent of the influence of vacancy rates on the price decline of commercial properties. The dataset used in this study was collected and collated by valuation experts. We attempt to alleviate the bias inherent in the price estimates provided by the surveyors. A Bayesian multilevel estimation model was employed, and the results revealed that while some experts do not show deviations from the standard tendency of a peer group, others do diverge from this norm. Based on these findings, a bias-controlling price decline rate was derived. As many real estate statistics are produced based on survey data compiled by experts, the approach adopted in this study is expected to be applied to various real estate practices to mitigate the inherent and inevitable surveyor bias

Livability and futures studies of worn-out urban textures: Scenario analysis for evaluating the livability system and achieving sustainability

    No full text
Urban worn-out textures, due to their ancient and historically valuable physical structures, exhibit low adaptability to urban developments and advancements. Tehran, as a city with a rich historical background, also boasts considerable worn-out textures. Due to economic, geographical, and political conditions, a large population resides in these textures. In this regard, the present research aims to investigate the livability status of residents, identify key indicators, and design scenarios in the worn-out textures of Tehran city. This paper proposes a new approach to MicMac that promotes driving forces to scenarios. The results indicate that the livability of residents in worn-out textures of Tehran city, particularly in central regions, is in undesirable conditions. Furthermore, the analysis of the MicMac matrix showed that housing prices, residents’ income, investment, and an increase in economic activities, as well as the role of urban management, are driving forces that have a vital impact on the livability of residents in worn-out textures. These driving forces have depicted three scenarios for the livability of worn-out textures in Tehran city until the year 2032

Bibliometric review of research on green building assessment method by CiteSpace and HistCite

    No full text
Numerous qualitative review studies have been conducted to enhance the understanding of current research status of green buildings (GBs). Green building assessment methods (GBAMs) are crucial to the development of GBs and relevant research works has received wide attention. However, there are very few reviews to quantitively explore these studies. Therefore, this paper aims to systematically review literatures on GBAMs, and visually analyzes them through CiteSpace and HistCite. The article identified the most influential journals, contributors, representative institutions and regions. The knowledge bases of this area focus on “triple bottom line”, “indicator”, “building design”, “life cycle costing”, “life cycle sustainability assessment”, “tropical climate”, “building information modelling” and “Chinese green building label”. Through citation analysis, “updating existing GBAMs by scheme comparison”, “updating existing GBAMs by GB case analysis”, “establishment of new GBAMs” and “incorporation of BIM in GBAMs” were found as the main research themes. “Design”, “LCA”, “model”, “energy”, “management”, “residential buildings” and “office buildings” are high-frequency keywords. Future research directions were finally proposed as “more investigation on the other types of GBs”, “incorporation of cost-related criteria”, “enhancing health-related indicators” and“integrating with BIM technology”. The results could provide a useful reference to industry practitioners and scholars interested in GBAMs

Entrepreneurial orientation as an antecedent to the rapid internationalization of Moroccan SMEs in the women’s entrepreneurship field

    No full text
Purpose – This article aims to explore the importance of the international entrepreneurial orientation (IOE) of Moroccan women entrepreneurs (based on innovation, risk-taking and proactivity) in the speed of internationalization of Moroccan SMEs through the niche strategy as an intermediate variable. Research methodology – We adopted a quantitative study on a sample of 45 Moroccan SMEs to test the research hypotheses using the structural equation method, under Smart-PLS software. Findings – A significant relationship between the international entrepreneurial orientation of Moroccan women entrepreneurs and the speed of internationalization with the intermediation of the niche strategy. Despite well-calculated steps, innovative products and the courage to take risks on foreign markets, women entrepreneurs tend to adopt niche strategies to be more protected in the internationalization process: both to avoid direct competition from large companies and to speed up the internationalization process Research. Limitations – Theoretically, it was difficult to operationalize the phenomenon studied, for several reasons: the large number of movements in this approach, the number of variables mobilized. Methodologically, the criteria used to select the sample made it difficult to find more than 45 eligible companies (Exploratory quantitative study). Originality/Value – This article is one of the very few to combine international and women’s entrepreneurship. Furthermore, this is the first article in the field of women’s international entrepreneurship, as far as I know, that addresses the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and the speed of internationalization of exporting SMEs
