Influence of creative, social, and practical imaginativeness on self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention of engineering students

    No full text
Despite the importance of imagination to entrepreneurship, it is underexplored by researchers in the field. Imaginativeness is a cognitive ability that coalesces the capacity for  imagination with the knowledge required to rationally conjure up a variety of task-related scenarios. It is especially helpful for those who lack prior experience and therefore can be beneficial for recent graduates and anyone who wants to launch their own business. In our study, we examine whether imaginativeness, in its three forms, can influence engineering students’ entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. Our study recorded 216 responses  to prove the hypotheses employing partial least squares path modeling using SmartPLS3, and we inferred that creative imaginativeness, social imaginativeness, and practical imaginativeness are positively related to entrepreneurial self-efficacy thereby strengthening entrepreneurial intention. The study provides distinctive insights into the study of imagination in the formation of entrepreneurial intention among engineering students in a developing economy, where studies are few

Regions of existence and uniqueness for singular two-point boundary value problems

    No full text
A monotone iterative technique with lower and upper solutions is presented to identify the regions of existence for the solutions of singular two-point boundary value problems without requiring the monotonicity conditions on f(x,y). Under an additional condition on f(x,y), uniqueness of the solution is also established. These existence and uniqueness results are constructive and complement the existing results. Four examples including some engineering problems are given to illustrate the applicability of the proposed approach

Integrative analysis of Text-to-Image AI systems in architectural design education: pedagogical innovations and creative design implications

    No full text
This study explores the potential of Text-to-Image (T2I) AI systems in architectural design education, particularly during the conceptual design phase. Through a structured two-stage workshop, architecture students used T2I AI to conceptualize a public building project, focusing on the bird’s eye and interior perspectives. These AI-assisted designs were subsequently refined to align with specific site conditions and programmatic requirements. The study reveals T2I AI’s ability to expand creative possibilities in architectural design while highlighting its limitations and biases. The findings emphasize the necessity for a critical and informed approach when integrating AI into architectural education and practice, addressing ethical considerations. Future research directions are proposed to optimize T2I AI applications in architectural design, address inherent biases in AI systems, and enhance the discourse on AI’s role in shaping the future of architectural practices

Model of sustainability of SMEs in V4 countries

    No full text
The research’s objective was to develop a thorough model of the viability of SMEs in the V4 countries based on predetermined variables. The following factors were defined: human resources management, business ethics, corporate social responsibility, company digitalisation, environmental considerations, financial management, and sustainability of SMEs. The model was developed on the solid empirical research carried out in the Visegrad Four countries in June 2022 by the renowned external agency MNFORCE using a sample of 1,398 respondents and the “Computer Assisted Web Interviewing” technique. According to the research, the developed complex model of SMEs’ sustainability depending on the listed criteria is statistically significant. Each investigated factor has a favourable impact on SMEs’ sustainability. The study’s findings supported the notion that the environmental aspects of the business have the strongest positive impact on the long-term sustainability of SMEs. The study’s findings indicate that the management of human resources, finances, and the degree of digitalisation of SMEs significantly influence the viability of businesses. The findings provide an important platform for managers responsible for the sustainability of the SME segment at the worldwide level (International council for small business), national level (particularly for V4 nations), as well as institutions supporting SMEs and SME owners

Green financial policy and investment-financing maturity mismatch of enterprises

    No full text
Green financial policies play an important role in acceleration of China’s green transformation. Existing associated studies mainly focus on the qualitative analysis and descriptive analysis. However, it still lacks empirical studies. To explore the relationship between green finance policies and the investment and financing terms of enterprises, the effects of green financial policies on investment-financing maturity mismatch of A-share companies on Shanghai Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange from 2009 to 2020 were investigated in this study by a difference-in-difference (DID) model. Results demonstrate that green financial policies significantly alleviate short-term loans used as long-term investment in enterprises. Green financial policies inhibit investment-financing maturity mismatch of enterprises by increasing loan availability, lowering financing cost and increasing proportion of long-term loans of enterprises. Such effect is more obvious in enterprises with higher internal control quality and enterprises with more transparent information. Green financial policies can alleviate short-term loans used as long-term investment in non-state-owned enterprises more obviously than state-owned enterprises. Research results provide some references to alleviate debt risks of enterprises. Enterprises are recommended to seek steady development, fulfil social responsibilities and take green low-carbon social actions extensively

Analyzing new ventures’ innovation generation and adoption: a configurational analysis from the optimal distinctiveness perspective

    No full text
The institutional theory literature focuses on the legitimization of new ventures’ innovative behaviors, while the entrepreneurial orientation literature emphasizes differentiation of the pursuit of innovation by new ventures. We apply the optimal distinctiveness perspective to examine how the institutional environment and entrepreneurial orientation jointly influence two modes of innovation – innovation generation and innovation adoption – in new ventures. We employ fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) based on country-level data obtained from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) project. Our findings reveal that there are five equifinal optima of distinctiveness rather than a one-size-fits-all optimal distinctiveness for high innovation generation and high innovation adoption, respectively. Moreover, the orchestrating mechanisms of the two modes of innovation are different: that of innovation generation is threshold orchestration and that of innovation adoption is compensatory orchestration. Furthermore, except for the difference, we also identify something similar shared by mechanisms of innovation generation and innovation adoption. These results extend the optimal distinctiveness theory by empirically verifying equifinality in optimal distinctiveness and articulating different practices of threshold orchestration and compensatory orchestration, and also contribute to the innovation literature by examining the differences and similarities of the mechanisms of innovation generation and innovation adoption

Exploring the digital marketing potential and needs for digital marketing capabilities of service sector MSMEs in Thailand

    No full text
The research objectives are to assess the digital marketing capabilities of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Thailand’s service sector, as well as to develop persona profiles for each enterprise size. The survey of 400 digital marketing personnel was conducted alongside comprehensive interviews with 10 marketing executives. The result suggests that MSMEs have moderate digital marketing skills but need to improve their knowledge in creative thinking, online consumer interaction, affiliate marketing, and change management. An executive interview emphasized issues unique to micro-enterprises, like mismatched advertising and inadequate online marketing expertise. Medium-sized enterprises have difficulties achieving online target engagement due to their inadequate SEO capabilities, whereas small enterprises struggle to effectively manage customer inquiries. The study introduces persona cards that reveal distinct competency levels and areas for improvement for each enterprise size. The research provides actionable insights for MSMEs seeking to refine their digital marketing strategies and contributes to the academic literature with understanding. Persona cards serve as a novel tool for visualizing digital marketing competencies and needs within the MSME sector

Creativity in the education process of logistics students: a case study

    No full text
The article deals with the issue of creativity and the creative process in the education of students. The key to successful thinking is creative teamwork. The power of “team creativity” lies in cross-inspiration, which is of particular value in the case of interdisciplinary teams. The more the students associated with a project differ personally, the more chance there is for them to come up with creative solutions. The article also presents a case study. It presents an example of a 4-step creative process, using Visual Basic for Applications programming. In teams students solve a task related to the analysis of selected economic measures. In the subsequent stages of the process, they solve the problem set by the lecturer using the so-called “collective mind” ideas. The case study was preceded by an analysis of surveys in which students referred to their knowledge of creative teaching methods and assessed their attractiveness. The literature study conducted analyzed teamwork in the process of student education and the creative process that fosters creative thinking. Two economic metrics were analyzed to determine the product group’s contribution to the company’s profitability and demand profile. Using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, two procedures using Visual Basic for Applications computer programming were developed and verified in a case study based on quantitative data

Probabilistic management of pavement defects with image processing techniques

    No full text
Pavement management has traditionally relied on human-based decisions. In many countries, however, the pavement stock has recently increased, while the number of management experts has declined, posing the challenge of how to efficiently manage the larger stock with fewer resources. Compared to efficient computer-based techniques, human-based methods are more prone to errors that compromise analysis and decisions. This research built a robust probabilistic pavement management model with a safety metric output using inputs from image processing tested against the judgment of experts. The developed model optimized road pavement safety. The study explored image processing techniques considering the trade-off between processing cost and output accuracy, with annotation precision and intersection over union (IoU) set objectively. The empirical applicability of the model is shown for selected roads in Japan
