Parenting style in building learning motivation in children: A case study in migrant workers’ families in Indonesia
No full textThis study aims to describe the role of parenting to students whose parents work as immigrants with substance in the form of student opinions, as well as to describe the learning motivation of students whose parents work as migrant workers with several approaches related to learning motivation. The study used a qualitative approach that took data based on the results of interviews and direct observations as a data collection instrument and then carried out descriptive analysis. The sample of this study was conducted on students at MI Al-Khoiriyah and SDN Langenharjo 2 schools whose parents worked as immigrants. The results showed that students realized that with the parenting pattern of parents who worked as immigrants this situation was only temporary, their parents worked for money to be able to meet their needs at home and students' educational needs. However, in general, students feel sad when their parents are away from them for a long time so that students experience a lack of direct parental love. Therefore, in general, students whose parents work as immigrants do not show good or high learning motivation. This can be seen from the incompleteness of eight indicators of student learning motivation at school. Suggestions for further research in the future are also discussed
The development of environment-based picture storybooks to increase the fourth grade students’ reading interest
No full textThis study aims to produce an environment-based picture storybook to increase the reading interest of fourth-grade elementary school students and obtain the results of book product testing until the suitable book used as reading learning for elementary school students is obtained. This research is development research which consists of three stages, which include (1) Preliminary Study, (2) Product Development, (3) Product Test. The subjects of this study were fourth-grade students of SDN 1 Rajabasa Raya, Rajabasa Sub District, Bandar Lampung City, Lampung Province. The data analysis technique in this study adopted a qualitative descriptive technique. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and interviews. The product validity was tested by learning material and learning media experts. Based on the research conducted, it was found that: (1) environmental-based picture storybooks can increase students' reading interest; (2) environmental-based picture storybooks are suitable to be used as learning resources in learning to read for elementary school students. The results of this study found that the level of validity of the development of picture storybook learning media products in increasing reading interest in fourth-grade elementary school students was very good
Inquiry-based E-LKPD in effort to improve the fourth grade students’ learning outcome
No full textThis study aims to determine 1) the feasibility of inquiry-based e-LKPD, 2) the importance of e-LKPD in the process of learning mathematics in elementary schools, 3) the improvement of students' mathematics learning outcome. The syntax of inquiry-based e-LKPD is student orientation to problems, organizing students to learn, guiding the investigation of individual and group participants, developing and presenting work results, analyzing and evaluating problem-solving processes. The data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The results showed that the low thematic learning outcomes of students was due to the fact that educators had not fully used teaching materials and models that could improve learning outcomes, so it was hoped that the inquiry-based e-LKPD could improve the fourth grade students’ thematic learning. It is clear that inquiry is one of the learning strategies that can be applied as a solution in improving student learning outcomes, in accordance with the characteristics of the students. Therefore, it can be concluded that the inquiry-based e-LKPD to improve student learning outcomes in elementary schools needs to be developed
University students’ perception of online learning: A case study of Virtual Class learning management system in the University of Lampung
No full textThe use of online media to facilitate distant learning during the pandemic has become one of the solutions that can be implemented to support the government's policy of reducing crowds in public spaces. In this case, students at the University of Lampung's Faculty of Teacher Training and Education benefit from an online management system called Virtual Class Unila. This platform is intended for students to use to access resources, download learning modules, and participate in classroom discussions. The Virtual Class was created to assist students with distance learning. However, since the initial implementation of Virtual Class at the start of the pandemic in early 2020, both positive and negative perceptions about its use have emerged. As a result, we were encouraged to ascertain diverse perceptions regarding the use of this sophisticated learning management system among students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Lampung. This study employed a quantitative approach, collecting data via a scaled survey questionnaire. The target participants were 272 students from various departments who were asked to complete a survey regarding their perceptions of the implementation of Virtual Class. The findings of this study are expected to be beneficial for the future maintenance and development of Virtual Class, as well as for determining the optimal method of conducting online learning
The development of PQ4R-based LKPD to improve the fourth grade students’ thematic learning outcome
No full textThis research aims to analyze the need of LKPD development in accordance with the learning model used. This research was a descriptive quantitative research. The research subjects were teachers and students of grade IV at State Elementary School (SDN) 2 Kampung Baru. The data were collected using interviews, observation, and questionnaire, which were analyzed through a descriptive analysis. The results show that the competence standard, basic competence, and competence achievement indicators were in line with the Curriculum 2013. The students’ learning outcomes were categorized into low category. The PQ4R is one of models that can be applied for improving students’ learning outcomes. The teachers need a suitable LKPD for the learning model, suitable with students’ characteristics. This research can be further developed referring to the PQ4R learning model for improving learning achievement
The impact of principal administration on elementary school teachers' performance
No full textThe problem of this research is regarding the management of the principal on the performance of educators. The purpose of this study is to explore how principals should work in schools. Six efforts that can be made by principals in improving teacher performance include (1) a serious focus on improving teacher competence, (2) providing sufficient funds to increase teacher professionalism, (3) supervising and guiding teachers professionally, (4) creating a culture of school organization that is comfortable for teachers, (5) creates innovation and progress in schools, and (6) provides various awards for every achievement made by teachers. Therefore, it is recommended that principals be more active and creative in collaborating with teachers and stakeholders in teacher performance education. The research uses quantitative research methods, namely to see the partial effect between the variables in the survey with a quantitative approach. The population and sample of this study were elementary school teachers at SDN 1 Sumber Agung, Kemiling District, Bandar Lampung City. Data collection techniques used non-test techniques (observation, interviews, and documentation) and test techniques (Questionnaire). Developing a monograph book for teaching English skills to young learners in wetlands areas
No full textTo enable Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) to become the Asia-Pacific centre for wetlands development in 2027, one of the efforts ULM makes is to raise awareness about the importance of optimising human resources in wetlands through research and development in the educational and cultural fields. English is considered a foreign language in Indonesia, allowing students to use the language outside of academic settings. English becomes a required subject in junior and senior high school; however, the government requires that English be taught in primary schools as a local topic. English, on the other hand, remains a mandatory subject in a large number of Indonesian primary schools, particularly in Banjarmasin. The issue arises in primary school English instruction because there is no clear guidance for teachers on how to teach English in an appropriate and engaging manner for the students. Due to the absence of a monograph book on teaching methods, teachers in some primary schools in Banjarmasin, particularly those located in wetland areas, have limited access to teaching English to young learners (EYL). In light of the university's policy and the critical nature of achieving teaching and learning objectives, as well as the absence of a suitable reference book for teaching EYL, this study aims to develop an appropriate monograph book on teaching techniques for students of young ages. The research and development design is chosen because it aims to create a product and meets the needs of the reference book's development. The results are expected to improve students' academic performance and to assist EYL teachers in wetland areas in conducting effective and meaningful teaching
