Spatial variability of soil chemical properties is critical for improving crops productivity and sustainable farming techniques. This study was conducted to determine chemical properties of soils in selected area of Department of Agricultural Research (DAR). The study area was located at the field of Department of Agricultural Research, which is located at Zayar Thiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar. A total of 235 soil samples were collected in a systematic grid design using geographical positioning system (GPS). Each grid was specified with the distance of 50 m × 50 m. Variables measured were soil pH, Electrical conductivity (EC), organic matter, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, available potassium, exchangeable calcium, exchangeable magnesium, exchangeable sodium and cation exchange capacity (CEC). Among the statistical results, exchangeable Mg showed the highest variability and soil pH showed the least variability with a coefficient of variation (CV) 69.37% and 8.40% and the values ranged from 0.24 cmolc kg-1 to 6.83 cmolc kg-1 and 4.82 to 7.53, respectively. The electrical conductivity with an average of 0.059 dS m-1 was obtained. The spatial distribution of cation exchange capacity ranged from 1.86 cmolc kg-1 to 12.82 cmolc kg-1. Low to high range of available phosphorus was observed between 1.95 mg kg-1 and 27.91 mg kg-1. The available potassium content in the selected area of DAR soils ranged between 10 mg kg-1 to 317 mg kg-1. Exchangeable calcium varied from 1.13 to 8.35 cmolc kg-1. The soil exchangeable sodium values of the selected area of DAR soil samples varied from 0.05 cmolc kg-1 to 0.69 cmolc kg-1. The pH of the soils was strongly acid to moderately alkaline and EC was non saline condition. The organic matter content found in the selected area varied from 0.33% to 20.85% and the variability of soil chemical properties existed largely due to the differences in management practices by the researchers, and therefore, the researchers should be encouraged to adopt organic matter improvement practices for improving the long-term storage of soil fertility level in crop production. The observed various spatial variability of soil properties that affected soil fertility would provide the information of effective management and decisions making for crop cultivation in Department of Agricultural Research

LIBRARIES AS CATALYSTS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE: EMPOWERING MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES IN INDIA

    Get PDF
Libraries have been accredited as knowledge and power centers, spanning social, economic, and educational divides. In the context of Indian society, libraries are assumed to be helpful in uplifting the weaker sections of the society, particularly Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Minority Communities (Kalyani, 2021). This is because these marginalized groups are bound to encounter systematic problems, such as deficiencies in quality education, information, and opportunities (Rao, 2020). They are centers for learning and development, literature, and thought that are open to the public with welcome and comradery for all. This source provides a way of accessing works, electronically based information, and training that is suitable for these populations (Nayar, 2019). For instance, the Digital Library program for the Marginalized has indeed helped reach out to tribals and others in far-flung areas. It has increased the availability of educational material in regional languages (Kumar, 2018). Likewise, the specialized library programs in the urban slum and rural areas involving SC and minority communities included skill enhancement, awareness, career, and vocational training (SET) workshops, employment workshops, women’s development, empowerment, and more. This has enhanced literacy levels, employment, and socioeconomic status for the people. Thus, by equalizing access to knowledge and information, libraries significantly transform the social setting by serving the ‘weaker’ sections of society and facilitating the development of the country and society in general (Bhatt, 2022). This abstract intends to focus on Libraries and their role in uplifting such sections of society in India, particularly concerning literacy, online access, and social justice. The full paper will provide more details on these themes as it will describe some of the ongoing practices in detail, examine current efforts, and provide strategic suggestions to enhance libraries impacting empowered SC, ST, and minority communities across the country

To evaluate the effect of different rates of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers on yield and yield contributing characters of rice and to compare the effect of N and K balanced fertilization on the growth and yield of rice production. The pot and field experiments were conducted at Yezin Agricultural University farm, Zeyarthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw in the dry and wet season of 2022-23. Using T1 (control),T2(86 kg N ha-1+ 92 kg K ha-1),T3(86 kg N ha-1+ 46 kg K ha-1),T4(46 kg N ha-1+ 92 kg K ha-1 ), T5 (46 kg N ha-1+ 92 kg K ha-1),T6(129 kg N ha-1+92 kg K ha-1),T7(129 kg N ha-1+46 kg K ha-1) in seven treatments with three replications included in the experiment using a randomized complete block design (RCBD). According to the experimental results, different applications of N and K had significant effects on plant height, number of tillers, number of panicles, panicle length, number of spikelets and grain yield and revealed significant differences in grain yield in response to N and K applications. These findings found that combined different applications of N and K gave the highest grain yield from T6 (45.2 g plant-1) in dry season (pot experiment) and (6.2 t ha-1) in wet season (field experiment)), which statistically from all other N and K differed application treatments. Based on the results, the combined effect of N and K fertilizer treatments gave a higher grain yield, an increased yield percentage, and better growth performance. Therefore, the combined use of N and K fertilizer treatments gave higher grain yield, yield increase percentage and better growth performance
