    The formation of student character education during distance learning

    Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is very bad for all areas of life in the world, both in the fields of economy, agriculture, education and so on. One of the impacts is on the field of education, the ministry of education issued a policy in the form of a circular on the learning process carried out by distance learning from home online, as well as the role of parents as the main supervisor during the learning process. Purpose: Thus the purpose of this writing is to find out how to establish the character education of learners during distance learning, because during this pandemic, children spend more time at home in order to be disconnected from the spread of the coronavirus. Design and methods: This research uses qualitative method with the type of literature study, as well as the reflection of researchers in the form of knowledge, insight and experience of researchers from the current situation.     Background: Understanding the role of teachers in improving the quality of student learning and knowing that students even though using e-learning can learn effectively or not and can improve the quality of student learning, even though they do not learn face-to-face or directly but the teacher must be able to know the ability of students to master and understand this learning and students get maximum and effective learning from the teacher because the teacher is an educator. In this education, especially in e-learning, teachers or educators do not provide maximum learning or are less effective in E-learning. Purpose: In order to know the teacher's perspective on improving the quality of student learning in E-learning. Design and methods: This type of research uses the case study method, data sources: documents and interviews using a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 6 elementary school teacher respondents. Data validation used inter-researcher triangulation. Results: the results of this study show that there are various kinds of teacher roles that are very important in improving the quality of student learning, even though e-learning is less effective in improving the quality of student learning

    An analysis of consciousness in male lead’s behaviors from a short story: Midnight by Rainbow Rowell

    Background: Short story has been a popular literary work although it is not as complicated as other literary works. Short story is usually centered only in one single event and limited in scope, but it is written with much greater precision than a novel. This research is intended to analyze certain behaviors of one character from a short story. Purpose: The aim of this research is to find out what kind of Freud’s concept of consciousness appeared in this short story, and how is the concept of consciousness represented in the story. Design and methods: This research is a qualitative research using semiotics and Freud’s Concept of Consciousness as tools of analysis. Results: The result of this research revealed that all the three conscious concepts by Freud appeared in the story. The total data found are 19 data, with 8 data that belong to the conscious, 4 data belong to the preconscious, and 7 data belong to the unconscious. Based on the data found, it is concluded that the male-lead’s behavior represents the conscious concept of human’s mind by Freud. This research also revealed that the Freud’s concept of consciousness in the story is displayed predominantly through narration which consist of 15 data, while through dialogue are 3 data, and the through monologue only consists of 1 datum. This result indicated that the signification characters of the story tends to be enclosed

    Background: Throughout the lyric, -from music- there must be emblazoning with the meaning within it. Purpose: This study is coincided in seeking out the use of figurative language’s content in Bohemian Rhapsody’s lyric by Queen. Design and methods: Whereupon, the qualitative approach with design of content analysis is used in this study. The researcher acts as the main instrument since analyzing it. The focus on this study shows twenty figurative languages usage in it. The entire data is analyzed through three stages; 1). Data reduction, 2). Data representation, 3). Conclusion. Results: The result of this study shows there are 20 kinds of figurative languages; they are; Alliteration (3 lines), assonance and consonance (1 line), Hyperbole (1 line), Imagery (2 lines), Internal rhyme (1 line), Irony (1 line), metaphor (2 lines), and Onomatopoeia (1 line) Personification (1 line), Repetition (1 line), Simile (1 line), and symbolism (two lines). The researcher concludes, the figurative language used by this lyric is to bring the meaning coming up with beautiful language

    Number lines in learning mathematic integer at the upper level

    Background: Students who have a good understanding of mathematics tend to have proud learning achievements. Good mathematics learning outcomes are influenced by intelligence and material mastery. However, teachers interact more with the white board than with students. students feel less enthusiastic because the teacher asks students to listen during the delivery of the lecture. Purpose: This study aims to determine the appropriate method in conveying integer material to elementary school students. Design and methods: This research uses classroom action research methods on 25 of fifth grade students of SD Negeri Cibunian in the second semester. This classroom action research adapted the cycle scheme proposed by Kemmis and Taggart. This scheme consists of a series of plots, including planning, acting, observing, reflecting, and revised plans for each cycle. Results: The results of this study reveal the use of number lines in mathematics subject matter integers in class V can improve student learning outcomes. This is evidenced by the percentage of students who score above the pre-cycle passing score of 28% or 7 students complete learning, in the first cycle it increases to 56% or 14 students complete their learning, and in the second cycle it reaches 80% or 20 students complete learning

    Background: Knowing the movies is most likely a favorite activity, it can take apart in education. Education is one of the important things in our lives. Most adults think "Karate Kid" is inspiring a violation. It is shown many Kung Fu movements and fighting scenes. However, the process of characters in being someone that would be interesting to be analyzed. It is more like the teaching-learning process to get something of a student. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the characters and find out the educational value shown in this movie. In addition, research has focused on analyzing the spiritual values of education following two items of discussion namely value of giving and value of being. Design and methods: The method in this study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Next, the analysis is done by watching the movie many times and then continued the analysis by collecting data from books and some Internet resources to find theories related to the topic to be discussed. The next step required to arrange the analysis is to prepare the material by selecting multiple events of the movie and classifying the events related to the analysis. Results: Based on the research finding, there are eight educational spiritual values found in The Karate Kid namely honesty, brave, peace, self-discipline, respect, love and affection, not selfishness, and also kind and friendly

    Background: This research studies about directive speech acts made by the main character T’Challa in Black Panther movie. Purpose: The aims of this study are to explicate the applications of the directive speech act, to explain the types of directive speech act of the utterances that used, and to find out the most frequent types of directive speech act of the utterances that used by the main character T’Challa in Black Panther movie. Design and methods: To achieve the aims of the study, the writer uses Kreidler’s theory in analyzing the data. This study is a qualitative research by employing descriptive method which the writer interprets of utterances that contain the types of directive speech acts in this movie. Results: The result of study showed that 39 utterances of directive of speech acts were successfully identified that made by the main character T’Challa. In this study, the writer found that the main character T’Challa in this movie uses all the types of directive speech act, such as, command, request, and suggestion. There are command 26 data or 66,6%, request 8 data or 20,5%, and suggestion 5 data or 12,9%. So it can be concluded that the dominant directive is command, because this movie contained many command of the main character T’Challa as the king in the movie who has highest authority and also has a degree of control the other characters. Command is to give the strong order, request to ask the hearer to do or refrain from doing something, and suggestion is to give the opinion to the hearer

    Finite and non-finite verbs in political news: Israeli and Palestinians issues

    Background: For centuries, newspapers have delivered news to the reading public informing important events of a day. Specifically, the political news nowadays is more relaxed and popular than other sections, not to mention that it is also presented in an interesting and serious manner. Purpose: This research aims to classify and determine the verbs whether they are finite or non-finite. Design and methods: The subjects of the research are political news of “The Jakarta Post” newspaper which have taken and collected from two articles published on Monday, January 27th, 2020 and Tuesday, January 28th, 2020, with the focus on news related to “Donald Trump’s issues between Israeli and Palestinians”. The method used in the research is descriptive qualitative methodology. The main theory of this research are Greenbaum and Nelson (2009), Burton-Roberts (2011), and Lobeck and Denham (2014). The steps in analyzing the data include: (1) collecting the data, (2) categorizing the collected data into their own classifications, (3) analyzing the data, (4) determining the data whether they are finite or non-finite verbs, and finally (5) concluding the data. Results: The results of the research shows that from the total of two hundred and seventy two findings, there are one hundred and twenty-eight data of finite verbs (47%) and one hundred and forty-four data of non-finite verbs which then are divided into thirty-one –to infinitives (12%), twenty-six bare infinitives (10%), twenty-three passive participles (8%), thirty –ing participles (11%), twelve passive participle forms of be (4%), nine progressive participle forms of be (3%), and thirteen perfect participle forms of have (5%)

    Motivation of a slow learner in an elementary school

    Background: Low intellect makes slow learner students feel inferior and feel that they will never learn. As a consequence, slow learner students, sometimes, have no motivation to learn in them. Motivation has an important role in children's learning activities. It can be said that motivation is the driving force for children's activities. One of them is MF, a student identified as a slow learner by their class teacher. Purpose: For this reason, this study aims to determine the extent to which the causes of changes in MF motivation levels in the teaching and learning activities. Design and methods: This research uses a case study method. This research was conducted on one of the students identified by the class teacher as a slow learner. This research data using observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were grouped based on various factors that influenced learning motivation initiated by Dimyati and Mudjiono. Validation is done by triangulating data sources used to test the credibility of the data by checking the data that has been obtained through several sources. Results: The results of this study reveal 2 out of 6 things that influence the level of learning motivation to encourage MF to continue learning, namely ownership of ideals and increasing personal abilities
