Atelier “Black Atlantic Social Dance: from Circle to Line”
International audienceParticipatory dance workshop: 30 mins (with recorded music) + optionally 10 mins for questionsFor who? All persons fit enough to walk without difficulty. Initiation in rhythm as knowledge and intangible heritage, Africanist / Blues aesthetics, coded improvisation and unity of image, lyric and step. We will embody rhythms and aesthetics connecting West African drum-dance circles to popular American cipher and line dances. All levels dance workshop, in a spirit of Ubuntu! Video and slideshow will help to introduce dance workshop if space allows.Suggested Location : a room that has a projector or large TV for powerpoint slides or video as well as open, smooth floor (and/or moveable chairs) suitable for dance – a la Fabrique? If projector-dance space not available, a dance-only presentation is possible Eg: in Halle 2 Maison de la Recherche, University of Toulouse. In her article: The Circle and the Line: Speculations on the Development of African American Vernacular Dancing (1996) Katrina Hazzard Gordon speculates on how African American solo, partner and line dances became more popular than the Africanist sacred circle. She argues that it is because they assimilated European formations and restrictions more easily than the circle. I offer that line dance rituals such as the Electric Slide are popular because they create Ubuntu in a way similar to ancestral circles such as Wassoulou or the Ring Shout but differently to the Hip Hop cipher – through embodied syncrony. Line dance synchrony is a joyous, creative togetherness that is coded by rhythm – and the togetherness is enough. Keywords: Black, Atlantic, rhythms, aesthetics, unity, drum, dance, africana, embodied, intangible, heritage, cipher, circle, kén

Towards Model-Based Decision-Telling: Design Evolution Through Decision Nodes
International audienceModel-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) emerged as a response to the rising complexity of engineered systems, promising to reduce development times by improving consistency, collaboration, and traceability. While MBSE is effective in consolidating design artifacts into the single source of truth (SSOT), research addressing the evolution of these models during system development remains limited. In this paper, we address this gap by proposing a framework for capturing the evolution of MBSE models using a storytelling approach, focusing on the design decisions that drive this evolution. Our approach involves recording model evolution using version control systems and structuring decision information in natural language "Ystatements" to ensure traceability between the model's incremental development and underlying decision nodes.</div
Are Diagnostic Concepts Within the Reach of LLMs?
International audienceModel-based diagnosis is a cornerstone of system health monitoring, allowing for the identification of faulty components based on observed behavior and a formal system model. However, obtaining a useful and reliable model is often an expensive and manual task. While the generation of a formal model was the aim of previous work, in this paper, we propose a methodology to use large language models to generate Minimal Structurally Overdetermined sets (MSOs). MSOs are specific subsets of the model equations from which diagnosis tests can be obtained. We investigate two different directions: (i) the large-language-models' ability to generate MSO sets for hybrid systems, similar to those generated by the well-known Fault Diagnosis Toolbox (FDT) (ii) the automated generation of MSOs for Boolean circuits, as well as the computation of the diagnoses. We thus show how both dynamic and static systems can be analysed by large-language models and how their output can be used for effective fault diagnosis. We evaluate our approach on a set of arithmetic and logic circuits, using OpenAI’s LLMs 4o-mini, o1, and o3-mini
Not only big techs matter: digital platformisation and regional structural changes
International audienceThe paper provides a framework to understand the observed and expected regional structural changes caused by the increasing trend towards digital platformisation in our economies. It suggests going beyond the search for the spatial effects of digital platforms, which to date are typically focused on big techs and highly visible unicorns, with little attention paid to the rise of digital platforms owned by industrial incumbents. A more comprehensive taxonomy of digital platforms is proposed, and the discussion addresses the diverse expected location patterns and regional structural changes that challenge the idea that digital capitalism would be inevitably shaped by a few ‘winners-take-all’ regions
